Nuance Transcription Services - frustrated with this place - FT
Posted: Mar 29, 2011
I need to know if it is just me. I am so frustrated with this place. I thought I would enjoy getting paid by the line instead of hourly, but they just seem to do what they can to slow us down. They are constantly changing the account's specifics so you have to stop and read a paragraph before you can type EACH report. Also, constantly changing your account.....today you are on _____, then tomorrow without warning you are on _____. Also, it seems like every QC has a different way of doing things and whenever I submit the discrepency to my lead, I just don't get a response. I don't care how you want me to do it, just be consistent. Any comments?

Right. We are also running into more and more reports where the transcriptionist has to enter the patient information, again, not getting paid for this. They expect us to do a lot that we don't get pain for. Just doesn't seem right.
Nope. Not just you. - Soon to be ex

I feel your pain. As far as QC, I'm seriously beginning to think that they deliberately pull things out of the sky just to drive down the quality percentage so we won't be eligible for that oh-so-stellar quality bonus. Oh well, I guess now I won't be able to buy that pack of gum I've had my eye on.
I am just so sick of this place. I used to love my job, but things have been steadily going downhill since my company was eaten by Nuance. It's time to move on.
Transcription service paid by line vs. hourly - Nell

Every complaint you state about this company is typically true for every service I have ever worked for. That is why I say--repeatedly--it is all about their greed so that they can make a lot of money. Sure, they promise you will make way more getting paid by the line (this has NEVER been true and never will be) and of course they change accounts on you at a moment's notice and each account wants different things done and some want you to look up patient info or doctor names, etc. and it all slows you down but they want to pay you on production anyway. By the time you are done you will be lucky to make minimum wage. My advice?? Go into another line of work. These transcription services are nothing but a scam, you do all the hard work, they make all the big money.
agree, unfair...but your last statement of 'you do the work' etc, is true - of ANY business, beiginning of time - where you be

Tis true. Definitely would not encourage anyone as a new career to go into this line of work. Harder for us old timers to make the transition but I might be forced to do that one day too soon unfortunately. If you get hourly at the moment, I think i'd stay with that.

I would totally agree with you, Nell. I am amazed at how speech recognition drives you down to minimum wage. I had only been here about a month and I can tell I am getting ready to be trained on something else. And I am finding the transcription services anymore are a scam and it's shameful how we are being done. I have thought about writing President Obama telling him about the situation, particularly with all the health care changes going on.

I just started working here, have worked here about a month. I think maybe they are getting ready to train me on another account. And this speech recognition stuff, you can't make anything with this.

Pooksnook, They will constantly train you on new accounts. The problem is, their training consists of sending you an email with account specifics AFTER they have dumped the new account on you. Then your accuracy score takes a dive because of things you were not aware of. Of course, your Sup will never take care of this for you so don't even think about a bonus.

they pay by the line and VR is half the amount you get for straight typing, you never have work and half the time nobody is around to answer your questions and if they are, most of the time they ignore you. At half the cpl for VR, you still have to often retype the entire document, making changes takes time, so we're being shafted when they pay you half what they'd pay for typing it from scratch. Big companies like this one buy out other companies (OSi and Encompass) and make them take a pay cut, the reports are short and you have to fill in most of the patient info yourself and don't get compensated for it (at 4 cpl for VR work, reports less than a minute, bad dictators, you do the math!). Working for them you can't make a living, you don't even get minimum wage, they have something in place called MUP (make up pay) where they're supposed to make up your money up to minimum wage for your state but then they tell you you can only claim actual time spent in a report, no research, no headers, nothing. I worked there too long and at first they told me to log my hours I was REQUIRED to work per my contract with them, if you're scheduled to work 8 hours, log 8 hours whether you had work your entire shift or not and they would make up the difference. They FIRED that guy! I am with a new company now, am a QA and well thought of there, they pay me by the hour, hope it lasts forever and ever. I would never recommend anyone work at Focus. I'm not totally against offshoring, a lot of companies do it, including the one I'm with now, but when you give the majority of your jobs to offshore to save money and shaft your US employees so you all have to go on food stamps, energy assistance and can't afford health care, there's something totally wrong with that!

Stay Away From Transcend Services, Now Nuance Oct 01, 2012I formally worked for Transcend Services and would advise people not to work for this organization. They are now switching over to Nuance, but stay away from them. They are extremely critical of everything you do. This is supposedly because they think they have such high standards, but they just enjoy being mean and critical to transcriptionists, who pay everyone's salaries. They terrorized the transcriptionists with their QA reviews, so much so that many transcripti ...
