When a company states that their requirements are 1,000 lines/ 24 hour turnaround and or 5,000/ 7days, what does that mean? Forgive my ignorance but as you can see I'm new at this.
This is usually for an Independent Contractor position. I will try to explain and not confuse you more.
Usually the work goes as follows:
You have 24 hours from the time you receive the dictation until the time the completed transcription must be sent back to whoever sent it to you. For example, if 8 a.m. is the agreed time, at 8 a.m. there will be dictation ready for you to transcribe. You have 24 hours to transcribe it. When exactly you transcribe it is at your discretion. However, all the dictations have to be transcribed and returned by 8 a.m. the next day.
As far as 1000 lines, that means you must transcribe a minimum of 1000 lines per day. If you transcribe at a rate of 200 lines per hour, you will have your minimum done in 5 hours. If you transcribe at a rate of 100 lines per hour, you will have your minimum done in 10 hours.
The 5000/7 days usually means you can pick any 5 days out of 7 to transcribe 1000 lines per day.
Depending on your transcription speed, it is up to you to decide if you want to start transcribing at 8 a.m., noon, 8 p.m., midnight, or any time in between; and you decide if you want breaks or transcribe straight through. As long as you transcribe 1000 lines and have all 1000 lines back within 24 hours, you are fulfilling the contract. If you transcribe less than 1000 lines or take longer than 24 hours, you will probably lose the job.
Hope that answered your question.
Welcome to the MT world. You will get the hang of the lingo. Never feel afraid to ask a question. We were all ignorant at one time or another.
