Abusive QA - No longer an MT Posted: Oct 24th, 2019 - 6:43 pm In Reply to: Coming from - someone (sm)
I missed your comments about the abusive QA before, but I couldn’t let that go without commenting. After I was laid off from my onsite job, I was asked to take on QA for our facility, we only used one vendor and the quality was horrible. I sent them feedback every day and actually saw my role as an opportunity to educate, not to be mean to people or go on a power trip. You seem to think that QA is turned loose and permitted to do whatever they want, but I answered to 2 managers and did what they asked me to do. The vendor was following the Book of Style, so we tried to work within those guidelines as much as possible; of course there were facility specific guidelines but we had it all in writing and kept people informed, and when I made corrections, I had the documentation to back it up. I didn’t make snide remarks to anyone, that might have gotten me fired. I ran audits at the request of management, and we did charge them for critical errors. That was my job for a couple of years until I transferred to a position in medical records. We were told for years that MT was going away, but like so many others I chose to stay, but when the layoff came, no one in my department went to work for an MTSO and I know I’m fortunate to be able to have had onsite jobs for all these years. I think I said in my first posting that AAMT made it clear from day one that they weren’t advocates in wage issues, most people understood that and joined for the learning opportunities that were being presented at the time, it wasn’t a labor union but apparently some people didn’t understand that.
