I know that a gazillion years ago at my hospital, the full year's-worth of our vacation time was put in our "bank" right at the beginning of January, so you could even use up the whole thing right away if you wanted to. I think some companies still work that way. Our sick time was completely separate from vacation time, and I can't remember for sure how it worked, though I do recall sick time was earned at 1 day per month. Can you imagine?---A couple weeks vacation, 12 days of sick time, and paid holidays off on top of that. zowie
