Question for Ket from below on VMware player - MQMT

Posted: Apr 05, 2011

I posted on the thread below, but it was awhile ago, didn't know if I would get a reply, so I'm posting up here.

Do I understand you correctly?  You were able to get DQS installed and working on Windows 7 64-bit OS using VMware player?  I tried for a long time and finally gave up and am still using my old clunker.  I also tried XP mode and no foot pedal.  Does it work like XP mode, having to install DQS again in the virtual environment or is it a mirror of your old XP computer?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it works. I downloaded the free VMWare player and followed the wizard to install it. Then I clicked on new and clicked XP as the OS and accepted the defaults for memory and disk space and got a command to insert my XP CD. Had to put my COA in. It installed XP under VMware. If you click on tools, you'll see what's installed, and there was my foot pedal listed. I clicked on it and it asked if I wanted to disconnect it from my computer and attach it to VMware, and I did that. Then I installed DQS and all the other MQ programs on XP. It was really pretty easy considering what I had gone through with Windows XP mode and another one, I think Virtual Works. I've been using it for probably a week. One time I had to re-attach foot pedal to VMWare player but other than that it's worked perfectly. I'd say hallelujah if I could spell it.

When you start your computer, you just go to VMWare under programs and click it and then click on whatever OS system you installed and it opens up like it's XP. Haven't had the nerve to try to make a desktop shortcut yet. :)

If you try it and have problems, e-mail me, and I'll try to help. But, it's very straightforward.

Thank you :) - MQMT

My reaction exactly, Hallelujah! I'm going to give it a try over the weekend. I work full time and don't have much time during the week (these kinds of things usually take me awhile, but I can usually figure them out with some trial and error). I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again so much. Hope this helps others too!

I keep checking for a progress report.

your Win7, 64-bit computer to run DQS, if you enter your COA from your old computer's WinXP, will it cause you to not be able to use your old computer's WinXP anymore?  I'm assuming you're only supposed to use the Win XP COA on one computer, or does it not matter on the VMWare? ...

Escription/EditScript And Vmware

VMware Worked, Working On DQS In Windows7
Apr 14, 2011

Just wanted to say thanks again to Ket for posting about VMware and DQS. I can finally use my new computer for work and junk the old one. It took me a while to set up and work out the kinks, but it was so worth it. I didn't have an XP disk so that stumped me for awhile, but I found out I could use the XP Pro that I bought to get XP mode and after that, it was all good. Really cool to have a virutal computer, takes some getting used to, having 2 computers on 1 desktop.   Thanks ag ...

Apr 18, 2011

Hi.  I've been using Express Scribe for years now and have never run into a situation where it couldn't play the files that I was working with.  Recently I got a new job and now .ds2 files are going to be used more often and I just found out that Express Scribe doesn't play those.  UGH! I don't have the kind of money to buy $100 software like Bytescribe.  Does anyone know of any other wavplayer programs that are free or very low in price? Or maybe someon ...
