Help! I may need new player software... - Tippy

Posted: Apr 18, 2011

Hi.  I've been using Express Scribe for years now and have never run into a situation where it couldn't play the files that I was working with.  Recently I got a new job and now .ds2 files are going to be used more often and I just found out that Express Scribe doesn't play those.  UGH! I don't have the kind of money to buy $100 software like Bytescribe.  Does anyone know of any other wavplayer programs that are free or very low in price? Or maybe someone has a converting program they use to convert audio files to a format that is compatible with other software like Express Scribe?  Any info would be helpful, my Bytescribe trial is up in 10 days. :/  Thanks in advance!

I have just run into the same problem. The person who is sending you the DS2 files has the ability to save it in any format (dss, wav, mp3) when downloading it from the recorder. Just have them do that and then continue using ES. Hope that helps!

I wish it were that easy :) - Tippy

If I were working directly with the speaker that would work, but unfortunately I do not. But thank you for your help!

I use Olympus AS-2400 transcription module, which plays DS2 files. I think it's about $70 though. The office I contract to paid for it. Maybe you could get them to pay or at least split the cost with you?

freeware player (lite) compatible with .ds2 files. The downside is no footpedal support. PCDictate.com has a conversion software for about $30 (free trial available) that converts .ds2 to a format compatible with ES. With either of these solutions, you will want to factor in the $$ impact of time lost due to nonstandard processes to determine whether these could be a permanent solution or just a stop-gap solution until you have the funds to buy transcription software compatible with .ds2 files.

I put the link below too. It is a program called Switch, they have a free version, and the regular is $25 right now (usally $50) until the end of April. I do not see ds2 files listed so you might want to call them and see, but it would solve your problem. Good luck.

Media Player
Mar 02, 2014

My client just sold his business but I stayed on with the new client.  My old client used Voicescribe which I became very used to as I used it for over 15 years for my old client.    The new client doesn't use a specific media player but I tried the VCL media player and Windows media player but I can't seem to get my foot pedal to work with either.  Is there a media player out there that is foot pedal friendly? Any help is appreciated.  ...

Having More Than One Voice File Player
Jan 02, 2011

I currently use GearPlayer, and with one of my clients this is required for downloading voice files and uploading completed documents, therefore cannot get rid of it.  GearPlayer is fine for my other accounts as those voice files come via email and FTP and I save them to my system and they open and play on GP just fine. My issue now is if I want to apply with a company who requires ByteScribe or ExpressScribe - or any other player, those are just the two that I am looking at presently - c ...
