I know what this means, but what I want to know from those that have worked for Nuance for a while is what happens if you HAVE to take unpaid time off?  How can they stop you from taking it?  Co was bought out & this (among other things) has me thinking its time to abandon ship.

I am thinking the same thing. It is time to move on to something else. Something out of MT. And the Thanksgiving message we got from the former president made me want to puke... "we'll always be family." Did you sell your actual family down the river, too?

That email made me want to hurt as well. As for another job, I have my coding certificate from college, got it this past June, haven't taken the crazy-expensive credential test yet, not sure I really want to be a coder. I don't know what I will do.

I am pretty sure we both work for the same company as I just was notified that I could not take unpaid time off with Nuance after they bought out my current company. I HAVE to take it to get back home from vacation. I was forced to "abandon ship" today because of it. I really don't like working for a company that will not allow that, especially for 20 hour a week employees who cannot earn PTO anyway.

You're doing great to get even your accrued PTO much less unpaid time off. My region doesn't give a damn about any of us as people and I certainly can't take time off without pay or even alter my schedule for one day! This company doesn't care for us as people!

Unpaid 30 Minute Break And...

I don't mind having an unpaid 30-minute break, but the thing that bothers me about some of these companies is the fact that it is tiring sitting at a computer for 8 hours and getting only a 30 minute break.  If I want two more 15 minute breaks those can be worked in, but then I have to add back 30 more minutes to my time! I like to at least stretch ever hour or so.  :/  ...

So my experiement yielded, and this is a consevative estimate because I may have forgotten to track sometimes and, of course, by actually tracking cut my prouction way down.. I had 1093 characters or 16.81 lines rounded up to 17, which is $1.36 a day and roughly 346.8 dollars a year based on an estimated 8 cents a line and 51 weeks working. In the personal scheme of things, not a heck of a lot but it is 2-3 electric bills for me..but more importantly, multiply that bill by all the transciptionis ...

It has been inconvenient, and maybe a bit confusing at times, to check my time card hours for my shift as, because of my time zone, part of my hours show up on the next day because I work 2nd shift.
