National Labor Relations Board, says - you can

Posted: Dec 09, 2014

discuss your pay in public as much as you would like. It is the law.  It does not matter if you have signed a nondisclosure statement on salary as that is not legal. If you are fired for talking about your salary you have legal grounds for compensation.

Of course distributing copyrighted material is illegal, but you can talk about your work concerns and salary in public. It is the law no matter what a company tells you.

You do not have to be part of a union. You have rights as an employee and an American citizen and this is one of them.

Are there any laws about not knowing what you are making sm - acuteMLS

on any given day until AFTER your work is turned over to the client and QA'd?

I've been looking and I haven't been able to find it, but there HAS to be some law against this (having us work without a rate before we begin the work).

I can't figure out the pay grid. How do I know what I'm going to make?

I can't SEE the pay grid - sm

There is a plain version (not colored) in PDF format, which you can down and enlarge so you can read it : )

You will find it under NTS Links, Payment Compensation Plan, Documents.
Thank you so very, very much!!! - I had no idea.

That's why it's called MINIMUM wage. It's the law.

responding to the comment about them not telling us how much we're making. It's like any other production-based job. They pay you minimum wage. What you make above and beyond minimum wage is usually based on how hard you want to work. Once again, I am not upholding the way they are doing this, just simply stating it like it is.
this is a SKILLED job, we were forced into production-based - migrant workers make more than nuance employees

jobs. I choose to stay for now. I am free, as we all are, to leave at any time. Nuance is not holding a gun to my head (or anyone else's) and making me stay. I stay because I need the job. Jobs don't necessarily come easy these days. The last transcription job I interviewed for paid 6.6 CPL for straight typing and around 3 for editing. That's even less than Nuance pays. Okay, I'm done now.
Sure it is a skilled job but the value of that skill-sm - anon

The value of that skill to those who need it is declining. There are skills involved in all jobs and the skills needed for editing/transcription is not valued highly. One, they can obtain that skill from a cheaper labor source (offshoring) or they can replace the people with the skills but requiring the physicians to do the work. It simply does not matter how many years we have worked to hone our skills, they are no longer wanted/appreciated enough to pay decently for.

How Do I Go About Filing A Labor Relations Complaint?
Aug 06, 2010

I am supposed to be an IC, and according to the IRS definition and 20-factor test, I am being treated as an employee with each day bringing new employee guidelines into play.  How do I file a complaint and be allowed compensation and benefits as an employee?  This company is just worming their way around paying benefits and downtime compensation to employees by stating they are ICs.     ...

CA. Labor Board States "Good Case" Regarding Unpaid Labor
Jun 22, 2015

A fellow MT posted on the Nuance board that she contacted the California Labor Board regarding unpaid labor.  I hope this case creates a precedent!  For me, some jobs are so laden with problems half my time is spent researching and correcting dictator errors - for no pay!  We are not paid to check email, answer email, train, review of all the documents emailed to us, review changes in procedure, doctor exceptions to the rule, working with tech support, reviewing QA, searchin ...

Question About Labor Board
Nov 02, 2012

Does anyone know, with an IC working in one state and the MTSO having her business in another state, which state I would file a claim with the labor board for wages not paid.  This is a minimal amount but this lady has one excuse after another, she has been sick, she had personal problems, her daughter had an appointment.  I am at a point where I am finished and want to file a claim with the labor board, she has too many personal problems/issues to be in business.  I will not ...

Reporting Companies To Labor Board?
May 21, 2015

I am just curious...has anyone ever reported companies that don't pay you for your work? I have been reading posts about some of them particularly the one that has a new pay system where I think you all said you only get paid for 80% of your work?? How absurd. That has got to be illegal. I have provided the link to get you started. I reported a company I worked for 30 years ago in a different field who tried to withold my paycheck because I just quit without notice. Human Relations
Mar 03, 2014

I've been on the same ride for well over a decade.  I started with a small company that got swallowed up by a bigger fish, which got swallowed up by an even bigger fish, which got swallowed up again by a whale.  I'm a loyal person and a very good employee, as well as an excellent MT.  I've been tossed from team to team.  I'm sure I haven't had the same account or supervisor for more than 2 years in all that time, but, really, I'm flexible.& ...

I tried to post this on the company board but I guess that was the wrong place.  So I am sorry for having made that error.  I'm new to the forum, so I do apologize for any mistakes I make posting going forward  and well in advance of making them.  I do hope that I am putting this on the right board; however, if I am not some direction in that regard would be appreciated as well.  Where does a post like this belong exactly?  I do need some objective help with th ...

I Took An IC Job With A National And Haven't Really Ever Worked As An IC Before.
Apr 29, 2012

Basically, it's been working out fine until one day last week when I received an email from the transcription manager saying that was "short on my time" on one specific day.  I was confused because while I agreed to work first shift on specific days, I wasn't aware that I was strictly held to a specific schedule and wondered how they were keeping track of my hours worked because I do not punch a time clock.  I assume they are keeping track of the hours I'm logged onto th ...

A Matter Of National Security?
Sep 28, 2012

With the nature of world affairs and US relations such as they are, I can't help but think how wrong it is for companies in general, but specifically MTSOs, to be sending highly sensitive information overseas the way they do. It scares me to think about my social security number, date of birth, address, etc. being handled by someone who doesn't necessarily feel the sense that they must protect that information. Maybe instead of complaining about how much work is being offshored, we s ...

NATIONAL MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST STRIKE! ..
Feb 19, 2015

As MTs, we have seen over the years how our jobs just keep bottoming out more or less.  Companies are taking advantage of us while they "suck up all the money" that is paid out by healthcare facilities; we just "don't count."  On top of that, companies are now trying to turn us into ICs supplying our own software programs AND equipment.  In 25 years of doing this, I have not seen line count pay increase one iota quite frankly.  The only thing I can think of is ...

Anybody Have Experience With National Medical Transcription Company?
Oct 07, 2010

I received a job interview for an IC position with a company called National Medical Transcription with headquarters in New York.  Has anybody worked with this company? My main concern was that the company does not offer direct deposit but rather issues a check via mail.  Next concern is a "transparent" means of tallying up productivity for 65 character lines and spaces included. I would appreciate any feedback from present or past contractors. Thank you. ...

We Need To Establish A National "Check Your Medical Records" Day
Jan 03, 2010

Think about it; there are national days for Everything. If patients were made aware of their ability and need to check and verify their medical information, may the problems of ILPs and ASR (and EMR) would become noteworthy outside our little MT community. I wonder how we could start it.  Maybe you need to petition Congress or something. Heck, if there is a national day to check the 9-volt battery in your smoke detector, a national day set aside to verify the accuracy of your medical inf ...
