Human Relations - changeplease

Posted: Mar 03, 2014

I've been on the same ride for well over a decade.  I started with a small company that got swallowed up by a bigger fish, which got swallowed up by an even bigger fish, which got swallowed up again by a whale.  I'm a loyal person and a very good employee, as well as an excellent MT.  I've been tossed from team to team.  I'm sure I haven't had the same account or supervisor for more than 2 years in all that time, but, really, I'm flexible.  My only real complaints are that, for all my VERY HARD WORK, my paycheck has shrunk and shrunk and shrunk again, and I'm severely lacking in professional references due to the chaotic and impersonal nature of this beast.  I'm just curious how you all have dealt with this problem, or if it has even really been a problem for anyone else.

I'm searching for an outside job but one of my greatest barriers is my lack of references. I have none. Because, like you said, I don't know any of my "co-workers" or supervisors personally. I've had no luck so far getting a job though I've applied at more places than I can count. I've had two interviews, both went well (I thought), they said their next step was to check references, etc., and then I didn't get either job. ...sigh...

I guess you just keep on trying until you find something else. What more can you do?

My resume consists entirely of companies that are no longer in existence. Only refs I can give are my current employer, which is awkward, to say the least.

Most places indeed want a list of job references. I keep this simple and simply give them the name and phone numbers, but with a disclaimer: Last known contact information. That gets me off the hook.

If you're concerned about so many different companies listed on the resume portion of your application, I just put "So-and-So Whale," then in parenthesis (formerly DDD, XYZ...) If the list is too long, I would just start another line for the company "So-and-So Bigger Fish," and on down the line if you're more comfortable with that. The fewer employee lines listed, probably the better. It looks like YOU jump around, rather than THEM making you jump, when so many are listed. The fewer the better, and makes for an easier read. The dates show up better, too, insofar as no gaps in employment.

Good luck.

How Do I Go About Filing A Labor Relations Complaint?
Aug 06, 2010

I am supposed to be an IC, and according to the IRS definition and 20-factor test, I am being treated as an employee with each day bringing new employee guidelines into play.  How do I file a complaint and be allowed compensation and benefits as an employee?  This company is just worming their way around paying benefits and downtime compensation to employees by stating they are ICs.     ...

National Labor Relations Board, Says
Dec 09, 2014

discuss your pay in public as much as you would like. It is the law.  It does not matter if you have signed a nondisclosure statement on salary as that is not legal. If you are fired for talking about your salary you have legal grounds for compensation. Of course distributing copyrighted material is illegal, but you can talk about your work concerns and salary in public. It is the law no matter what a company tells you. You do not have to be part of a union. You have rights as an employee ...

We Are Only Human
May 21, 2011

there is no way in *&*&@@ that anyone can get 99% accuracy anywhere at any job.  we are only human.  This is all in attempt to get people to sloow down but don't slow down enough or else you drop your pto pay rate, you drop your line count per hour and all their other no good ideas they have up their goldlined sleeves.  They want everyone making a certain amount in their paychecks and work four times as hard now to keep what your making if that is possible. ...

Question Regarding Human Nature And Changes
Jul 10, 2014

The only constant, when working in health care, is that things are going to change. A wise MT told me that years ago, and boy has she been right. I do see a wide variability in how people handle change. I've seen it in MT, and I've seen it in coding, with the transition to ICD10. It seems some people embrace the change, learn from it and become even more successful, while others decide it's too difficult, complain about it and become bitter.  I have several more years until I ...

Now that I'm laid off, I want to transfer my (piddly) 401k to my also piddly Roth IRA at my bank. I don't know much about doing this I hope I don't mess it up. By the way, what are any of you guys doing with your 401k if you have one at MM? While I didn't have much in mine, I still want it. What if you didn't do anything? What would happen to the money? Oct 10, 2014

What can you do about the morale of the employees?  Instead of having MTs on their own time look at Enrich, why doesn't the company have monthly PAID meetings that cover topics or Q and A sessions, etc.?  I have never had a meeting with my supervisor. You cannot tell me there is no money for that. Nuance spends so much money "improving" Fiesa and why not use that money for their employees? HR looks at everything that is posted on this site and what is done with the information fou ...
