Anyone happy with Nuance? - just asking

Posted: Jan 10, 2013

I have an upcoming interview. Just wondering if anyone is doing okay with this company and how you manage to get along in spite of what seems like a lot of negativity based on what I'm seeing here.

I think a lot of it comes down to luck... - sm

If you get a good account, you can make good money, even despite the miserable low pay. Unfortunately, those are few and far between, as they try to send as many of those to India as possible, except those where the hospital refuses to let them do that. One of my accounts is amazing like that, but it has so many people on it that I'm lucky if I get 1 report a week off that account. Before Nuance acquired us and that account wasn't overstaffed, I made over $30 an hour on it. Now, I make $15 a hour on a good day on a really crappy secondary account, but it might as well be called my primary since it's the only one I get work on.

Again, I think it's pure luck. If you happen to get on a team with a good TSM and good QA people who aren't overly critical and you get a good account, it would be just fine.

Personally, I've been with the same company for 10 years, was bought by Nuance recently, and am leaving because they cut my pay and overstaffed my accounts so badly that I can't make enough money to pay my bills anymore.

No, I am not happy. - mt2

I live in a small town without many options. Not many companies out there have straight typing anymore either. I'm moving in a few months to a larger city so hopefully can find a position in an office - M-F, weekends off, PAID HOLIDAYS and paid vacation.

question when no work - scared to death

[ In Reply To ..]
What happens when there is no work or you threatened to be fired if you cannot meet the line count?

I've been an MT for 31 years - and Nuance is the worst company - EVER!

I too am just beginning with nuance and I am scared to death. They are suppose to do my installation and now I am wondering if I should run not walk away from this company

I don't think you need to be scared - sm

You just are not going to make money hand over fist, but it is not a nightmare and is not going to ruin your life.

In the first 2 months of working for Nuance, I developed - sm

Run away fast!

How do they even keep employees it is crazy to treat people like this. I haven't even started and I am not sure how to quit. I guess I just email my team lead and let her know I am no longer interested.
Why not give it a shot - asking
[ In Reply To ..]
If you are going to quit anyway, why not just give it a shot and see what happens. The worst is that you quit or will be fired, and is that really that big of a deal??? Working for these large MTSOs now, you become immune to caring what happens. If I were you, I would just go forward with it and see what happens.
Taking a shot - scared to death
[ In Reply To ..]
I am going to give it a chance and have begun to move forward with the training. I think you are right how would I know and I do not want to always wonder if I made the right decision for me. So I am moving forward with Nuance and I am going to just have a positive outlook.

It is what it is, I show up, work my hours, sign off and let it go.--sm - anon

I need to work at home as I have a son with autism and a daughter who is a diabetic. It is important to me that there is somebody nearby to handle any issues that might come up. In order to be available, I sacrifice better pay, more fulfilling jobs, etc. but I have determined to do what is important to me. I think the medical transcription heyday is over, the glory days are not coming back. I just want to do my work and get my money. I do not get as much money as I would like but, that is not likely to change much with another company. I have been on my current account for a few years now, changing companies would mean losing all that knowledge that makes my work more efficient. My team lead is fine, she is not buddy but also does not burden me with too many e-mails. QA, I look at the thinks I need to or can change and ignore the rest. If I did not need the money would I still work here? Of course not, but then again, I would not work anywhere else for pay and would just volunteer in the community. Until that day comes, I likely to stay put, do my job and then sign off and enjoy the other things life has to offer.

I love your post! I feel exactly the same way. All the negative I have been reading about Nuance almost had me questioning my decision to stay with them since my company was recently bought out by them, but I too am grateful to be able to be at home, even if it is for lesser pay. I live in a small community, and any work available is for minimum wage. There aren't many opportunities here or even close to here that would allow me the time to be flexible for my 2 girls still at home and my hubby who is severely crippled by rheumatoid and gouty arthritis.

So far, I really have no complaints. I am taking a wait-and-see attitude and if I feel the need to change companies in the future, then I'll do it then. I love what I do. I hate what the job has become, but for me the pros outweigh the cons.

Every company out there is better than Nuance. I don't see - how they keep any MTs at all. nm

I work at Nuance and I'm very happy there. I have great accounts and great TSMs.

also happy - new but old

I also was scared at times in the beginning (mostly from reading some of these posts) about being fired for not doing this or that but they have been great to me and I have no complaints. Yes I would like more money, but I need to work at home for various reasons and this works fine. Just don't let the QA stuff get to you. That was my problem. But you just have to read it and if you don't agree - complain. I did and on every one that I have said anything about they have reversed for me. I am lucky that I have a good account and secondaries so that helps also

yes for the most part - medical monkey

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, for the most part, I am quite happy with Nuance. I know there is a lot of negativity, but really, all jobs have the bad and good. I am not bothered by anyone unless I am doing something I am not supposed to be doing. I have pretty decent account for the most part. I work the hours I chose from day 1. I have a great supervisor (which makes all the difference in the world). I think the biggest and worst factor is the pay. But, then again, that is with all the MT jobs. We just are not paid what we are worth. But, yes, for the most part, I am quite happy where I am.

I am happy at Nuance too. - see message

Came to Nuance as part of an acquisition. It is just my opinion, but I feel the unhappy folks are the most vocal on these boards - primarily because if you post positive things you'll catch a lot of heat. It's happened to me many times so I rarely post any more. I've been accused of being a liar, a cheerleader, a suit, a plant - you name it - for saying I am happy at Nuance.

Happy with Nuance - NO - Polywanacracker

[ In Reply To ..]
The only way you will know for sure is to try it. Always do your best and don't get caught up in their high-pressure tactics and if you find you hate it, like many others, quit or get fired. In the end, who really cares. Transcription is dying on the vine as we speak and heading for a foreign country near you.

Not happy at all. This is the worst job I have ever had. Seriously considering taking something in fast food while going back to school at 50+ years old.

I am and.... - Happy camper

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm happy with them even though there have been rough patches with communications with the Transcend to Nuance transition. When you look at other companies out there Nuance does have a better overall package deal when you look at the benefits in addition to the line rate. My general rule of thumb on these boards is people love to fuss but if they're miserable they need to move on to where they think is better or stop fussing. The reality is that since our government decided to not ban offshore transcription we're stuck with lower wages than a few years ago. Same thing has happened with many industries and it's not going to change until the laws change to make it more expensive to send any kind of job offshore than to do it in the US. Too bad the politicians would rather accept payoffs than to do things to protect American jobs and wages.

EXCELLENT post. Rational and level-headed. nm - BRAVO!

Most ridiculous thing I have ever heard-HAPPY WITH NUANCE! How can you be happy with a company that steps on you like you are a mouse, threatens at every turn that you're not meeting their requirements, and pays you pennies, not to mention threats and constant reminders that you are not good enough? RIDICULOUS.

Just a note out there to those searching for ï»¿companies and looking for opinions.  I've been an MT for 8 years, worked for many nationals and a few smaller companies and recently hired at Nuance (working 2 months there now, full time).   I had a hard time sifting through all the bitterness on these boards to find anything positive about any company but I am finding that I am very happy here and just wanted to throw that out there for others looking for work.  I ...

Any Happy MTs At Nuance?
Feb 17, 2013

Is there anyone that is happy at Nuance?  I really need benefits, and I was considering just working 30 hours (the minimum to qualify for benefits).  I think they said the account would be on BeyondTxt - how is that platform?  Is there much difference in pay if you work the 2nd or 3rd shift?  Thanks for any honest input.  :)   ...

Is Anyone Happy At Nuance?
Oct 20, 2014

I filled out a "profile" at Nuance a few weeks ago, not sure if I was interested in a job there or not.  I was contacted a week later with a couple of offers pending passing their test.  I was not interested with the two positions offered, but she suggested I take the test anyway in case a position opened up that I was interested in. I have read such negative things here about Nuance, I am wondering if I should even bother.  I no there is no perfect company, but is ANYONE happy with their ...

Happy At Nuance?
Nov 10, 2014

Hi.  I had applied and accepted a position at Nuance years ago.  Got a better offer and went elsewhere.  Now I keep getting e-mails about re-applying.  My questions, after reading these boards is:  Does anyone like working there, make a decent level and is not stressed out?  From what I read it sounds like "truly the hell of transcription companies".   I don't need a job that is more stress than it's worth.  Please advise....Thank you. ...

Is Anybody Happy At Nuance...seriously?
Jun 03, 2015

I am just curious, how on earth does this company or any of the other well known nasties stay in business? You would think eventually they would all run out of MTs to go through and then what? Most of them say, or at least I think I have read they say, they won't hire newbies for the most part. By the way, you all warned me about another one of the big nasties and most people only lasting a few weeks but I went, "Pshaw...that won't happen to me." But alas, it did... just not as ...

Happy Nuance MT.
Jun 23, 2015

So much negativity on this board. Is anyone happy here? I can say that I am grateful for my job here at Nuance. I don't feel the QA is out to get me. My mistakes are my mistakes. Work is there. My TSM is wonderful. I get good PTO hours. I have had some bad QA weeks and have been frustrated but I have sat down and focused on how to make this better. I have slowed down my dictators and removed all distractions from my work space which has allowed me to avoid costly mistakes while improving my ...

I am surprised at just how many or your are miserable with what you do.  I am a new MT ans I am also having trouble finding work.  It's not easy.  I can see that having editing to fall back on would be good.  I have read the posts about don't do this just to work from home.  I have small children and my only choice would be daycare if I went to work somewhere, which would eat up half my pay check.  Sometimes it's not just money, sometimes it's fo ...
