I start with MM in a couple of weeks and I just wonder if ANYONE is happy and doing well here. After reading this forum, I'm a little scared about the choice I made.

I get plenty of work and have not run out of work in almost a year. I see that the acute care side has a lot of problems, I am glad I didn't switch a couple years back when we were having no work. I stuck in there and now it is all good. Good luck to you. I hope everything works out on your end.

I always have work, pay rate is decent and hopefully will never have to worry about being "sold out" again.

I'm currently making 60% of what I made back in the heydey, when there was no VR. The problem here, with MM, is that the MTs are paid all over the map. My pay scale right now appears to be higher than most, and I don't know why. I don't think it will last. I think everything is going to get evened out real quick with the upcoming benefits package (stay tuned). It amazes me that some are making minimum wage here. I didn't believe it, but see posts below - they did the math. The ones getting 8/4 are only making minimum wage, a circumstance I would have NEVER foreseen in the industry. If I ever get to where I'm making MW, I will not do this anymore. I don't like it well enough. I'm not going to say I'm going to Wal-Mart, but I'd find something.

After 13 years I just recently left. The "horror" stories you are reading are true. There were weeks I made just a tad above minimum wage. The company makes it damn hard to earn a decent wage consistently...and you are punished (pay cuts) on lots of reports you have no control over. One week you may have "mandatory overtime" and the next week you will have no work at all, or you will have jobs from lots of unfamiliar accounts and all with their own do's and don'ts. I loved my job for lots of years, but as always, the company making money comes far above an MT's ability to put food on the table.I agree...good luck to you! I wouldn't wish an MT job with Mmodal on my worst enemy (ok maybe I would).

less and less and less. I was miserable, unhappy, depressed, and self-esteem non-existent. I left 6 weeks ago, took a job in a clinic and so far am making about $400 more every two weeks than I did for M-Modal and not working nearly as hard, visit with coworkers, can go to the bathroom, take a lunch break. I am so glad I left. Good luck to you.

I so hear you! I too left and have a much better paying position in a private practice. From the looks of many of the posts now with all the tech issues going on and all the NJA...sounds like I got out just in time.

Your experience at MM will depend on a few things- your CCM, your accounts and you. If you end up with a good CCM who responds in a timely manner, does not micromanage and actually knows how to do her job that is a good thing. If you have accounts that have steady work and once again a CCM that will find you backup accounts that is a good thing. If you are self-sufficient, can work without needing hand holding, do not need any sort of positive reinforcement to know you are doing a good job and also do not need a raise ever, then you should be fine.

I happen to have all 3 things in place right now so things are pretty good. I would not say that I am happy but definitely decent. I do know however that accounts come and go and I have had the worst CCM ever so I can surely sympathize with those whose situation has changed overnight from decent to unbearable.

As soon as I found out my company had been sold out to MQ (now M*Modal)I came on here and read the horror stories. In my mind I thought "what a bunch of slackers." Then after a few months this stuff started happening (not all of it) to me, and to other people I knew were not slackers. I went to part-time so I could put in more hours at another job (better HOURLY pay after the 2 pay cuts I got here, a few months later my account of 10 years "went away" one morning without warning. About that time I was offered full time with my now current, non-MT, employer.....I'm MT Gone! And, I probably wouldn't have stuck around as long as I did if I hadn't had an awesome CCM; however, I figured it was just a matter of time before she was taken away too. So maybe there are some who are happy - for now, maybe the shoe just hasn't fallen YET! I wish you the best, but please prepare for the worst!!!

Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. I've been at TTS for almost 3 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about TTS. I never have to guess what TTS expects from me, and I do my best to deliver that on a consistent basis. Communication flows freely and efficiently. My team leader and 2 shift leads are EXCELLENT managers in my opinion. Everything I invest in my job comes back to me and then some. I am surprised at just how many or your are miserable with what you do. I am a new MT ans I am also having trouble finding work. It's not easy. I can see that having editing to fall back on would be good. I have read the posts about don't do this just to work from home. I was laid off as an MT a couple of months ago. I am wondering if there is a single person on this forum who is an MT who is happy with their job (including the miniscule pay that would be appropriate compensation if it were around 1975 rather than 2013 or lived in another country in which one can buy a lot more with 50 cents). Sunday it will be 2 months I have been at my new position since leaving MM. I no longer need to take Prilosec daily and my dr. has decreased my BP med. Furthermore, I was asked after a month if I would like to do full time editing at 6 cpl AND I get paid for every single line I edit....not less than half that MM pays their MMEs. I left MT to work from Hertz at home in April where they hired 64 employees. The week after labor day, without any warning, they called all of us in and laid us off. They took the insurance the same day and gave us our sign on bonus that we had earned and a severance check, provided we signed a covenant not to sue...so it is not only Transcription companies that have no regard for their employees, it is most companies...So I ask myself...Is anybody truly happy with their jobs??? ...
