BE HAPPY - redmaj

Posted: Jul 30, 2011

To all of you complainers, and I was one of them.  Be happy you have a job and can work at home.  I was actually bringing myself down with all the complaining.  Hey, things are not what they used to be and complaining just makes it worse.  HAVE A GREAT DAY.

no, i think it's better to warn others - nm

Explain to me why we are supposed to be happy with - Tell me why?

[ In Reply To ..]
decreasing pay, slave labor work, slave wages, constantly increasing production requirements, demands for perfection, and yet if you are productive at the rate of 4 cents a line at 1200 lines it is minimum wage - which is less money than you get sitting at a door saying "Welcome to Wal-Mart".

We have knowledge and skills that have the potential to affect the medical care of ill patients. It is not our fingers that know what keys to hit and what the correct medical terms, drugs, lab tests and formats are. It is our brains. WE have worked hard to learn the skills necessary to perform this job and create an accurate medical record, yet we are treated like we just graduated from high school, or in some cases still in high school, and do a job that your average person without training or knowledge cannot do.

I think I have EARNED the right to gripe and complain!

Griping and complaining - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
Not only do you have the right to gripe and complain about things you mentioned, what about MQ's time off policy? If you are regular part-time, MQ in its generosity give you 3 days a year. That means if you never need to use PTO for a sick day, it will take you 4 years before you can take a 2-week vacation. Is this 21st century USA or 19th century Victorian England?

had no choices and were owned by someone. Certainly, we all have a choice who we work for. I would find another place to work if I were that unhappy, not think of myself as a slave. I don't get why people stay in jobs that make them that miserable, it certainly cannot be because they are highly paid at MQ.

Time off - Free at last; Thank God Almighty . .

[ In Reply To ..]
That was the straw that broke it for me. I was working sick with pain all over, migraines, colds, etc. I had such precious little time to take off, and God forbid you take any of it to just be sick. Then you work how long to earn another day off. It was an impossible situation. They were outrageous enough to even deny time off without pay, no matter how much notice I would have given. The only way to have a major holiday off was to use a day of PTO. I still remember my dear mother expressing her disgust and disbelief at the ridiculous rules and requirements for this so called corporation. If I had it to do again I would have looked into a lawsuit for refusing any time to rest when I had documented medical and physical issues for years. Paybacks are hell. I hope I'm around to see theirs.

but being COMPLACENT and "learning to like it" - guarantees things will NEVER improve.

[ In Reply To ..]
As long as we continue to complain, and to raise awareness in others that this is happening, at least we stand some sort of a chance of seeing things improve. If not, we're doomed to spiral on down to working for free.

There's a difference between complaining and warning others who - Kiki

come on her to ask about MQ. MQ obviously is deceitful on the job advertisement. If I were looking for a job, I'd want to know the WHOLE truth.

You can just sit back and take it if YOU want.

Be true to yourself - msmello

[ In Reply To ..]
I see so many complaints about MQ and not enough praise on this site. Focus in on doing the best job you know how, take advantage of the resources to better yourself. If your supervisor is not your cup of tea, ask for a transfer, but be careful, the devil you know may be better than the devil you don't know. I have worked for some really bad companies/services, but I have always tried to have a backup plan to protect myself. There are people out there homeless and/or jobless with families and they would love to be doing what we are doing, but it does take skill and experience. One of the reasons I chose to do transcription at home was to get away from the office politics and backstabbing and for that I am grateful to be doing this.

That's all well and good - SM

Why does having a job and being treated like dirt have to go hand in hand? How about having a job and being a good employee and being treated right? I get tired of people constantly saying "Just be glad you have a job." Wrong is wrong no matter how you shake it.
Then why do you stay? - JMHO
[ In Reply To ..]
Why would anybody stay with a company they feel treats them like "dirt?" I just don't get it.

Myself, I am very glad to have a job in this economy. My husband has been out of work for 6 months and my daughter just got laid off her job. My sister is struggling because her company is closing its doors at the end of next month and have cut their employee's hours in half. I would not dare complain of my job in front of anyone with so many being out of work and struggling. Transcription jobs are still very easy to find compared to many other professions and I would suggest maybe you look into finding another company to work for instead of complaining about how wrong you are treated where you are at, sounds ridiculous when there are so many other MT companies to choose from.

I quit in 2009 because of how I was treated. Like some other MTs I visit this site and take the liberty to comment from time to time even though I am not still with the company. I had 17 years in and left.

I'm with you. I'm very happy to have this job. I hope it lasts for many years, but there is a lot of change in the field. I wish I knew the future of medical transcription.

I don't post here often, but I read the posts though, (like a bad reality TV show, I just can't stay away! It's my guilty pleasure! LOL!)

But, you are right, misery loves company and very many are loving to post, flame, bash, fight, whine and complain, B-U-T... I absolutely do understand that for many posting on this forum is cathartic and many people are very isolated, SO... it is helpful/useful for them. Where else are you going to find a virtual community of co-workers with the same problems? No where. It is good to have a place to come to, like the virtual water cooler.

Miserable at MQ - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I left MQ but while I was there I was thankful I had a job, but I just could not help grieving over the way things used to be and upset about not being able to pay bills. It is bittersweet. Thankful you have a job but not able to pay bills! and then fearful of another pay cut, which it looks like I would have gotten another pay cut with that new 6.00 flat rate for ASR!

Redmaj - I hope you are very happy

I hope you are very happy with the latest bunch of crap that has been posted on MQ Central. I hope you and the new CEO really enjoy each other's company on your flight to India. I hope you enjoy shopping for your cardboard box and decorations. If you live somewhere where the climate is cold in the winter, be sure and choose a good, warm spot. You are going to need it once YOUR job is in India. Afterall, it is cheaper for them to do the work than us. And their quality is SOOOOO EXCELLENT! Buncha bull****!

Happy Transcriptions Is Still Happy
Aug 19, 2013

Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. All I can say is I am so "happy" I am so close to being on my way out of MT! ...

Happy At TTS
May 03, 2010

I've been at TTS for almost 3 years and I have nothing but positive things to say about TTS.  I never have to guess what TTS expects from me, and I do my best to deliver that on a consistent basis.  Communication flows freely and efficiently.  My team leader and 2 shift leads are EXCELLENT managers in my opinion.  Everything I invest in my job comes back to me and then some.  I can recommend TTS to anybody unapologetically. ...

Is Anyone Happy Being An MT
Oct 30, 2010

I am surprised at just how many or your are miserable with what you do.  I am a new MT ans I am also having trouble finding work.  It's not easy.  I can see that having editing to fall back on would be good.  I have read the posts about don't do this just to work from home.  I have small children and my only choice would be daycare if I went to work somewhere, which would eat up half my pay check.  Sometimes it's not just money, sometimes it's fo ...

Is Anyone Actually Happy With VR?
Jul 08, 2011

I've read tons and tons of negative complaints about VR, but are there people out there who actually like it? Any thoughts? ...

Any Happy MTs Out There???
Nov 28, 2011

Hi, everyone.   I was just wondering if there are any MTs out there that are happy with their jobs and are able to make some good money in this profession.  I have read lots and lots of posts, and it seems like a huge percentage of the posts are about how bad people's jobs are and how little money they are making.  I understand people need to vent, but there have to be some MTs that are happy and making money.  I recently graduated from one of the top MT schools and ...

I am a seasoned (25+ years) transcriptionist who has recently found this site and like it thus far.  I have been looking for supplemental income.  However, there seems to be a lot of negativity regarding at-home transcription jobs.  Is anyone happy at home and with their employer?  If so, what companies are good companies?  I recently tested for M-Modal, but am a little apprehensive after seeing some of these comments.   ...

Happy With Job
Nov 06, 2012

I understand how frustrated many people are with the way things are going with MT jobs.  I am not posting this to make anyone feel worse, but to let people know that there are some good jobs in MT.  I work for a private local medical office. I had been worried, too, as our office offered voice recognition to docs and some use it.  A lot got frustrated, mostly the ones who want their notes to be correct, and went back to using our services.  I had even been looking at online M ...

Happy MTs/QCs...I'm Looking For A Job
Jun 28, 2013

Looking for some MTs/QCs that are happy where they work. I would like to change companies, but do not want to spend countless hours testing, as you all know, just to end up finding out something bad in the interview process or worse, after I've already accepted a position with somebody. If anybody is happy with their company and would recommend it, please respond. I am happy being an IC or employee. ...

Just wanting to hear some happy stories.  When I was first acquired by Nuance from my previous employer, I wasn't happy but I have to say that over the past 2 years it has turned out to be pleasant.  At first, I was very resistant and got all upset over Fiesa and marks being made.  I had to realize it wasn't personal and I also had to realize that the mistakes were mine.  Anyway, just wanted to read some positive stories on here.  Every time I visit the Nuance ...

Anybody Happy?
Oct 20, 2013

I am wondering if there is a single person on this forum who is an MT who is happy with their job (including the miniscule pay that would be appropriate compensation if it were around 1975 rather than 2013 or lived in another country in which one can buy a lot more with 50 cents). I think the job in terms of its duties is fine. It's just the pay that I begrudge. You can "earn" just as much being on disability SSI, which I was on before getting in this. But I'd still rather be finan ...

Looking For Happy MTs!
Nov 17, 2013

Some of these forums are filled with folks who are frighteningly unfulfilled. I realize that human nature, being what it is, will complain if given half a chance. However, I am a recent graduate of Everett CC and am starting a new job on Monday. I would like to hear from anyone who is happy and productive in their MT career and not looking for a new one. I did MT before receiving formal instruction and enjoyed it immensely, despite my maddening 10:1 slowness and ignorance of even the most mundan ...

I left MT to work from Hertz at home in April where they hired 64 employees. The week after labor day, without any warning, they called all of us in and laid us off.  They took the insurance the same day and gave us our sign on bonus that we had earned and a severance check, provided we signed a covenant not to sue...so it is not only Transcription companies that have no regard for their employees, it is most companies...So I ask myself...Is anybody truly happy with their  jobs??? ...
