Applying at Nuance and wanted to see if anyone is happy there - sm

Posted: Nov 14, 2012

I'm actually getting ready to take the Nuance test this evening and started reading the posts and now I'm having second thoughts.  I would be working on the clinic side from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. EST Sun-Thurs and now I'm wondering if I'll be wasting my time since it seems like there won't be any work.   Is there anyone who has worked at Nuance for a few years and is happy there?  Any other positives?  Thanks in advance!!

Good luck with testing. Those tests are a big joke! Good luck also with hearing from them again.

I'm happy. No company is perfect, but - see message

...Nuance has more positives than negatives for me. Been there over 4 years.

I'll get blasted for saying this, but most any of the company boards here are full of negative posts. You can't post anything positive without being called a plant, a suit, or a liar. Hence, I think the positive posters just don't bother much any more. Good luck!

Does Nuance provide the equipment?

equipment - new but old

I know they provided me a foot pedal. I believe it states in their ad where they are hiring. I already had a computer but my foot pedal was on the older side. I know that my computer had to have a certain amount of memory, certain version of MS Word etc.

Thank you for replying to my post. I really appreciate this information. I was in quandry of what to do about going forward with the application process.

It depends upon which platform you are hired for.... - see message

If you work on the Enterprise platform, they supply a company PC, foot pedal, keyboard, headset.

go for it and apply - new but old

I like working for them so don't let these other opinions sway you. Make up your own mind. I took the testing quite awhile back and heard back from them within just a couple of days that I had passed and then got another email setting up a phone call and was hired within 2 weeks after having gone through 2 or 3 training sessions via computer. I am full time and yes I have a set schedule but have never had a problem in clocking out and making up my time later (if I so desire) if not, then I just lose the hours and time (my choice), I am on a great account which is about half and half (VR and straight typing), they worked with me getting me on this account and I have a great TL and the only problem is with QA because they do not tend to be consistent but you just have to let that go and do the best you can and you will be fine. There is always negative things to say about any company and I am sure there probably are transcriptionists out there who do not have work and I think that is terrible. I do think they over hire and for what reason - I have no idea. I occasionally will run out of work and when that happens, I clock out and go about my day and do other things. Hopefully I can go back on later and type and make up the time but if not = so be it. Give it a shot

My opinion is that there are variables as to - who is "happy" or not SM

[ In Reply To ..]
I suspect the poster above who is happy and doesn't worry too much about not having work has a second income to depend on. I don't believe anyone can survive any longer on MT pay if they are the sole income. The older MTs are disgusted with what has happened to this industry. Greed now runs rampant. IMO, I would be okay with it if the pay rate for VR was raised. The going rates now are insulting. The MTSOs know this (why else would they demand that we change our timecards to reflect less hours worked so they don't have to pay minimum wage?) and they just do not care. We work so hard with a very demanding job and yet are treated so badly, BUT if the pay was respectful then I could deal. So there are variables. What accounts you get, who your immediate supervisor is, etc. If you luck out, you may be fine (except for the wages).

no second job - new but old

[ In Reply To ..]
No second job only this one. My income does support me. Granted I don't have a lot extra but I guess I just prefer to look on the bright side that I do have a job. I work hard and when I don't have work unfortunately I do have to flex my time or whatever but I do get in 40 hours a week = I was on an account that ran out and I just asked to be put somewhere else and was quickly moved to another account that rarely runs out of work. I do think it depends on your supervisor also, but I think that it is up to everybody to make up their own mind and she should try it first. You just never know unfortunately. I do think they should pay more but that is not going to happen that I can see
I also work at Nuance. s/m - nuancemt

And yes, I absolutely hated it at first. I don't love it, but I have a job for now. The pay sucks. If they would pay fair wage for VR, I'd be a happy camper, but that's never going to happen. I struggled with VR at first, never having done it before. It's been 1 year since I started here. I average $80-100/day, which I have learned to live with. My husband has a small disability check which helps some. I rarely work over 40 hours.

All you can do is try it. If it works for you, great! If not, find something else. I'm still looking for a different job, but in my town, they are few and far between so I am stuck with this for now.

Happy at Nuance - fedup

My question would be why are they hiring when there is no work and we are constantly being told to "flex?"

Because they want to pay higher UE insurance prems - Karma

Depends - RC

[ In Reply To ..]
I work your shift and have never run out of work on this account. I've been on it for about 6 months. The account they had me on prior to this one NEVER had work. I mean, never.

So it really depends.

I don't like Nuance and am looking for a new job because even with steady work, the pay is WAY too low. I could make more money bagging groceries.

Worth Applying At Nuance
Sep 26, 2012

Hi, I just found out that a hospital in our "family" of hospitals just let go 60 MTs over the weekend because it was "better for their patients" and see the writing on the wall for the hospital that I work for. A little while back, I received an email from Nuance inviting me to apply. I just wonder if it is worth my time to apply. I have over 20 years of experience in MT in all work types. What kind of pay can I expect from Nuance? I want full time work and I NEED benefits, as my hu ...

Happy At Nuance

Just a note out there to those searching for ï»¿companies and looking for opinions.  I've been an MT for 8 years, worked for many nationals and a few smaller companies and recently hired at Nuance (working 2 months there now, full time).   I had a hard time sifting through all the bitterness on these boards to find anything positive about any company but I am finding that I am very happy here and just wanted to throw that out there for others looking for work.  I ...

Any Happy MTs At Nuance?

Is Anyone Happy At Nuance?
Oct 20, 2014

I filled out a "profile" at Nuance a few weeks ago, not sure if I was interested in a job there or not.  I was contacted a week later with a couple of offers pending passing their test.  I was not interested with the two positions offered, but she suggested I take the test anyway in case a position opened up that I was interested in. I have read such negative things here about Nuance, I am wondering if I should even bother.  I no there is no perfect company, but is ANYONE happy with their ...

Happy At Nuance?
Nov 10, 2014

Hi.  I had applied and accepted a position at Nuance years ago.  Got a better offer and went elsewhere.  Now I keep getting e-mails about re-applying.  My questions, after reading these boards is:  Does anyone like working there, make a decent level and is not stressed out?  From what I read it sounds like "truly the hell of transcription companies".   I don't need a job that is more stress than it's worth.  Please advise....Thank you. ...

Is Anybody Happy At Nuance...seriously?
Jun 03, 2015

I am just curious, how on earth does this company or any of the other well known nasties stay in business? You would think eventually they would all run out of MTs to go through and then what? Most of them say, or at least I think I have read they say, they won't hire newbies for the most part. By the way, you all warned me about another one of the big nasties and most people only lasting a few weeks but I went, "Pshaw...that won't happen to me." But alas, it did... just not as ...

Happy Nuance MT.
Jun 23, 2015

So much negativity on this board. Is anyone happy here? I can say that I am grateful for my job here at Nuance. I don't feel the QA is out to get me. My mistakes are my mistakes. Work is there. My TSM is wonderful. I get good PTO hours. I have had some bad QA weeks and have been frustrated but I have sat down and focused on how to make this better. I have slowed down my dictators and removed all distractions from my work space which has allowed me to avoid costly mistakes while improving my ...

Happy Transcriptions Is Still Happy

Wanted To Go PT
