Hello im newly interested to getting certified as an MT and wanting to know about the Online schools that i can trust. And if this career pays well and is worth getting into ??? Thanks for any input i do appreciate it.

You need to understand the terms you are already using in your post.

Being "certified as an MT": If you mean becoming a CMT (Certified Medical Transcriptionist) so you can use those initials with your name, that can only happen through passing the CMT exam through the AHDI - the professional association (Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity).

Getting a certificate of completion of a program just means you went through an MT educational program and completed it. You are not "certified" as an MT.

Now, as far as online programs - choose the best you can afford. I would advise you to visit the AHDI and see what programs the AHDI has given approval to.

The top 3 MT education programs that are AHDI approved are M-TEC, Andrews School and Career Step. But there are many others, too.

Remember that any opinions you read here are just opinions about which school is "best" or "good" or "awful", etc. Read for yourself on each school's website about what they offer and look at their new grad hiring rates, how much help they give you, etc. Look at cost secondarily.

Remember that the highest price does not guarantee the best education. And the shorter the program, the less you are probably going to learn.

1. Look to see if they use the SUM program for transcription practice. If they do not, don't waste your money.

2. Look exactly what the school offers by looking at the reference materials, the hours of dictation they require to graduate, if they offer tech support, and if you have a teacher or do you self-grade. (Having a teacher is better because they can guide you where you are making your errors.)

I need some expert opinions please on online schools for both coding and billing courses for my daughter. She is looking into Andrews, Keiser, Rasmussen and Ashworth. I learned from someone who found out the hard way that it's important to make sure whatever school you go to is licensed by their state. The information is supposed to be displayed on their website and any other catalogs or ads. If not, there may be a problem. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Andrews. I went through their medical transcription training course and did very well with my job search. Based on my training at Andrews, I have not had a problem with employment tests, passing the RMT and CMT, etc., and with the coding program, as long as I study hard and do the assignments, I believe that I will have the same experience. I have been researching schools & certifications for coding and getting a bit overwhelmed! I have pretty much decided on an online course but now to decide which one? From reading the forums i hear Andrews college is pretty good but this will cost $3800 and take about a yr. Another option i have is thru Ivy Tech which will be covered by FAFSA grant.
