Has anyone went to Allied Schools? - aumc

Posted: Jan 31, 2011

Has anyone went to Allied Schools?  They are ADHI approved but do not use SUM.  I have talked to many school and would like to know if anyone went here and what their impression was.  Thanks.

I would recommend you try either Andrews or M-TEC. I would not hesitate to hire from either of those schools. Remember, you get what you pay for. And if it does not use SUM, don't waste your time or money.

I graduated from Allied and am now employed as a proofer/scopist trainee for a court reporter.

I bought the works from Allied, which includes the lifetime job placement, which I thought would be invaluable as a newbie especially.

After graduation I applied to more than 50 companies before my court reporter friend recruited me. Luckily, I love what I'm doing and plan on pursuing it long term.

I would not recommend Allied if you want a job in the real world after graduation. I was not equipped to pass any testing, and would never be able to "hit the ground running" as I have read on this board that describes Andrews or M-TEC grads.

In hindsight, I would only consider going to Andrews. You must have the edge of an excellent education to get a job in this nearly defunct career choice. Better yet, do something completely different! I'm sure Wal-Mart pays better at this point.

Good luck!

I am sorry that this happened to you, but I do agree with all you say with the exception tha this is a "nearly defunct" career choice. The field is changing, not dying. And don't be so sure about Walmart paying better. Even in today's transcription economy, I make $32-37 per hour.

I don't believe they are AHDI approved - MT

You'll need to check that on AHDI's website or better yet do a search here on a recent post. It's not a school that I would hire from.

Well I only looked at schools posted on the ADHI website. I didnt like that they had their "own" publishing company. I asked them if they used SUM and they said no. It pretty much sealed the deal for me not to go there. I know how much all of you are saying its important. I dont feel Andrews is a good fit for me so I am going with CareerStep. I know people are dogging it and praising it. I plan to (if all goes well) gain on the job experience while I am attending school. I know its about experience and who you know to help get you jobs. I'm not going to just leave it up to a school. Thanks for your replies.

They are accredited - AlliedGrad

with AHDI. For what that is or isn't worth, based on who you talk to. I valued it when I was looking for a school, but now don't value it whatsoever.

I am currently a student at Allied and it is AHDI accreditted and they do use the SUM software for training transcription if that is what you are talking about. I have not finished yet but just got hired for a transcription job to start now. So far, I have nothing but good things to say about Allied. Also, double check with CareerStep b/c I heard their "books" are not real books but photocopied books. Good luck with whatever you decide!

What Allied Medical Schools Told Me... Is THIS True?
May 12, 2010

A representative from Allied Medical Schools told me this:   Our program is designed to prepare you for not only the career, but also for the AAPC’s CPC-A exam which is the first certification you can obtain as a new medical coder. The AHIMA certification requires a degree program that usually takes about 2 years to complete and to pursue that, you must already have your CPC-A certification. Some employers may ask for a AHIMA cert but there are plenty of employers that do not and th ...

Allied
Apr 23, 2010

I have been doing due diligence & am disappointed to find so many negatives about Allied. I don't understand why this program, that appears to be considered substandard in the industry, was approved. I have completed a local program that was fine for what it provided, but I feel & know that I need more. I want the next step to be the final step. Nobody wants to do 3 programs! I hear those who talk about cost. However, there are many considerations when choosing. Not everyone can af ...

MT Course At ALLIED Med School
Jan 23, 2010

Has anyone heard anything about Allied Medical School's Medical Transcription course? They are approved by AHDI, the price is reasonable (not cheapest but not most expensive) and the course includes a laptop, CD materials and actual textbooks(unlike CareerStep that provides photo copies). I want to get started on my schooling but I want to make the best choice I can. Any info/feed back would be greatly appreciated. ...

Completed Allied Course - Feeling Unprepared...
Apr 25, 2010

I have recently completed the Allied MT course, and as I begin to test for companies, I realize that I am not prepared for the real world of the MT. As I have already spent a great deal of money, taking the Andrews course is not a viable option for me. If I could turn back time..... Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions of ways that I could obtain some "real world" practice so that I may be better prepared for my career? I have searched for mentorships, as I would love to have an MT to help ...

Has Anyone Ever Gone Through Allied School For Coding? Other School Recommendations?

Coding Schools - Where Did YOU Go?
Jun 01, 2010

Okay, here we go again.....if anyone has attended a coding school in the last year, is attending a coding school, could you please post your thoughts (was it worth the money, quality, etc)?  I know several people are still on the fence as to whether to pay the large sum to go to a private school (Andrews, DeVry) or attend community colleges in preparation to take their credentials in coding.  I've been reading posts saying the education from all is basically the same, of course it ...

Licensed Schools
Aug 10, 2012

I learned from someone who found out the hard way that it's important to make sure whatever school you go to is licensed by their state. The information is supposed to be displayed on their website and any other catalogs or ads. If not, there may be a problem. The school in question would tell everyone their state didn't require a license. It turned out that the school kept moving not only from state to state, but from country to country and the state they had been living in did requir ...

Connection Between Companies/MT Schools?
Feb 07, 2010

Have to admit I'm pretty shocked by several of the posts on this forum, especially concerning how the companies are operating.  New to the MT world here, and guess I'm green.  Hadn't heard much at the school I attended except this forum was "too negative."  I now see there's a legit reason for negative posts about companies if these posters are being honest, and I have no reason to believe they're not. Before You Commit To Coding Schools
May 16, 2011

Hi all, I just wanted to say, before you commit to a coding course, make sure you have enough time to study! I started Andrews School last year, and right after I started I found out I was pregnant.  I work a full time job and now have a new baby.  After I completed the first module and started the second module, I was so stressed out I needed a break, now I am having trouble getting back into the swing of things and finding the time to study.  My entire tuition is paid for and I ...

Coding Schools - Andrews
Jul 14, 2011

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Andrews. I went through their medical transcription training course and did very well with my job search. Based on my training at Andrews, I have not had a problem with employment tests, passing the RMT and CMT, etc., and with the coding program, as long as I study hard  and do the assignments, I believe that I will have the same experience. Based on the excellent training I received at Andrews, I am beginning to go through the coding course. The ...
