Allied Schools - SAHM

Posted: Feb 28, 2011

I am going through Allied Schools Medical Transcription program and I was wondering if anyone else out there has gone through them and what they thought. I am close to graduating and also wanted to hear how difficult it was to find a job for an entry level position.

Thanks!

It has been my experience that Allied grads need to beef up their education a bit to be competitive at entry level these days. Good luck to you!

Allied - Just Me

I just completed the IMT course at Allied a few days ago. I felt their training was inadequate, misleading, and inconsistent. I found SO many mistakes throughout the course and was constantly having to correct them. I'm sure they didn't appreciate it, since they are the "teachers." Anyway, still don't have my final grade. They made some very obvious mistakes correcting my final transcription, which I brought to their attention. They are "investigating" it and will get back to me. Seems to me if they are going to mark you wrong for things, they should already have the "correct" answers, but they can't seem to find them readily. Oh well, just my experience. I guess not everyone pays attention to detail, as it seems they have been getting by with giving wrong answers/grades for quite awhile. Just hoping I can find a job now. Good luck to you.

My sympathies to you. I am really sorry that you chose this school. You might want to augment that with work at some other school. I know that many employers do not like to hire from certain schools. When you say that "not everyone pays attention to details," that is true--but MTs (and their instructors, of all people!) MUST pay attention to details. Someone's life could very well depend on it. If you really feel like you didn't get an adequate education, I would ask for a refund. If they are not teaching you correctly, you have a right to do that. Anyway, best of luck to you!

Allied - My opinion

Sorry for the late reply, I've been working. I went to Allied too a few years ago. I had the same problems with the confusion and inconsitencies. They were always marking things wrong when I knew I was right. You have to take from them what you can. Find supplemental materials in areas that you know you are lacking in. That's what I did. It took me almost 2 years to find a job after graduating. That was more my fault because I had so much going on at the time that I could not really search for a job. I can't blame them for that. I did find a job when I had time to search for one. It can be tricky. One company told me they would not hire me because of the school I went to. Other companies would turn me down even though I passed their tests with flying colors. That could have been because I was a newbie or because of the school I went to. I don't know and I never will. The point is that the jobs are out there. If you are determined enough to do this, it will all work out for you in the end!

Thanks for all the input! I did notice inconsistencies with the grading as well. I attributed that to the different "graders" I always found that one particular "grader" was harder on me then some of the others. For example, in one assignment my transcription would be correct, but if I did the exact same thing for another similar assignment it would be marked as incorrect. I like to think that when I do find a job I will become accustomed to their style of transcription and go from there.

What Allied Medical Schools Told Me... Is THIS True?
May 12, 2010

A representative from Allied Medical Schools told me this:   Our program is designed to prepare you for not only the career, but also for the AAPC’s CPC-A exam which is the first certification you can obtain as a new medical coder. The AHIMA certification requires a degree program that usually takes about 2 years to complete and to pursue that, you must already have your CPC-A certification. Some employers may ask for a AHIMA cert but there are plenty of employers that do not and th ...

Allied
Apr 23, 2010

I have been doing due diligence & am disappointed to find so many negatives about Allied. I don't understand why this program, that appears to be considered substandard in the industry, was approved. I have completed a local program that was fine for what it provided, but I feel & know that I need more. I want the next step to be the final step. Nobody wants to do 3 programs! I hear those who talk about cost. However, there are many considerations when choosing. Not everyone can af ...

MT Course At ALLIED Med School
Jan 23, 2010

Has anyone heard anything about Allied Medical School's Medical Transcription course? They are approved by AHDI, the price is reasonable (not cheapest but not most expensive) and the course includes a laptop, CD materials and actual textbooks(unlike CareerStep that provides photo copies). I want to get started on my schooling but I want to make the best choice I can. Any info/feed back would be greatly appreciated. ...

Completed Allied Course - Feeling Unprepared...
Apr 25, 2010

I have recently completed the Allied MT course, and as I begin to test for companies, I realize that I am not prepared for the real world of the MT. As I have already spent a great deal of money, taking the Andrews course is not a viable option for me. If I could turn back time..... Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions of ways that I could obtain some "real world" practice so that I may be better prepared for my career? I have searched for mentorships, as I would love to have an MT to help ...

Has Anyone Ever Gone Through Allied School For Coding? Other School Recommendations?
Jun 24, 2014

I was wondering if anyone has ever gone through Allied School in California for billing & coding.  If so, how was your experience?  Were you able to find work in coding after finishing the course and getting your certification?  I have been a medical transcriptionist for the past 10-11 years and am now looking at getting into coding.  My best friend and I are going to take a course together.   If you wouldn't recommend Allied as a school, who would you reco ...

Coding Schools - Where Did YOU Go?
Jun 01, 2010

Okay, here we go again.....if anyone has attended a coding school in the last year, is attending a coding school, could you please post your thoughts (was it worth the money, quality, etc)?  I know several people are still on the fence as to whether to pay the large sum to go to a private school (Andrews, DeVry) or attend community colleges in preparation to take their credentials in coding.  I've been reading posts saying the education from all is basically the same, of course it ...

Licensed Schools
Aug 10, 2012

I learned from someone who found out the hard way that it's important to make sure whatever school you go to is licensed by their state. The information is supposed to be displayed on their website and any other catalogs or ads. If not, there may be a problem. The school in question would tell everyone their state didn't require a license. It turned out that the school kept moving not only from state to state, but from country to country and the state they had been living in did requir ...

Connection Between Companies/MT Schools?
Feb 07, 2010

Have to admit I'm pretty shocked by several of the posts on this forum, especially concerning how the companies are operating.  New to the MT world here, and guess I'm green.  Hadn't heard much at the school I attended except this forum was "too negative."  I now see there's a legit reason for negative posts about companies if these posters are being honest, and I have no reason to believe they're not. Just wondering how tight a connection the MT schools ...

Before You Commit To Coding Schools
May 16, 2011

Hi all, I just wanted to say, before you commit to a coding course, make sure you have enough time to study! I started Andrews School last year, and right after I started I found out I was pregnant.  I work a full time job and now have a new baby.  After I completed the first module and started the second module, I was so stressed out I needed a break, now I am having trouble getting back into the swing of things and finding the time to study.  My entire tuition is paid for and I ...

Coding Schools - Andrews
Jul 14, 2011

In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Andrews. I went through their medical transcription training course and did very well with my job search. Based on my training at Andrews, I have not had a problem with employment tests, passing the RMT and CMT, etc., and with the coding program, as long as I study hard  and do the assignments, I believe that I will have the same experience. Based on the excellent training I received at Andrews, I am beginning to go through the coding course. The ...
