What if we all sued the hospitals? Pls read and reply. - Lee

Posted: Oct 08, 2012

If HIPPA is as important as we are told.... and India does not have to abide by HIPPA,... what is to keep us from finding out if our own personal doctors and hospital off-shores there transcription to India, such as via M*Modal. If so, then could we sue our hospital for not making sure that our own personal information is not secure. If enough Americans start doing this.....it could possibly change our MT jobs. Is this a crazy idea??...or could it be possible???

Or check your records and sue for any gross mistakes. At least make a - huge fuss about mistakes. nm

Need to have been injured in some way - to have a valid suit (sm)

We just studied this issue in my new career training to get out of MT, which involves direct patient care. Even if a mistake is made by a facility or doctor, if the patient does not suffer or is not harmed in any way by it, then there is no reason to seek damages and no lawyer will take on a defendant just because there are mistakes in the medical record or if private data is not secure unless something actually happens to the patient because of it, some kind of injury or identity theft.

Nice idea - I ask my docs who they use

Most use local companies,,If I find an outsourcer, I tell them I wont use them.

I contacted my hospital..... - Lee

and asked them if they used a company that off shored transcription to India, such as M*Modal who off shores most transcription, and I was curious if my personal info was remaining within the United States? I am waiting for their email reply.

My physical therapist's company outsourced - sm

She was bitching about the quality of the work she got back, for instance, she would spell out like a street name and it would come back typed phonetically and then the individual letters would be there capped..She was going insane. I taught her how to make a standard report and some shortcuts. She does her own reports now and gets them done faster and more accurate..Fair trade for my infor to stay in the states.
Great Idea about emailing hospital - I posted this (sm) to my facebook

"I have an idea that was put out on a medical transcription board. As I have said before, most of your personal information that you give when you go to the doctor is given to people in India to transcribe your medical reports (hospitals are the biggest offenders). India is NOT bound by those stupid HIPPA law papers that you sign and can release your information and not be charged. (It has happened in the past with a disgruntled worker releasing a bunch of AIDs patients info). The reports that come back from India contain horrendous errors and if not caught by the doctor, can be lifethreatening. So how bout we start emailing our doctors and local hospitals to see who does their transcription. Give me the name and Ill tell you if they outsource, this is step one in maybe putting an end to this and getting transcriptonists a living wage again. I have taken a 10K paycut in the last 10 yrs due to a combination of outsourcing and bad (dangerous) technology." Everyone needs to post to FB and make the idea go viral...
I am posting this to Facebook--We need to let people know - Lee

Great!! I am copying this and putting on Facebook. We need to let people know that their personal info is unprotected in India. I am still waiting to hear from my hospital, but will post when I hear. People need to contact their doctors and hospitals--maybe this can start a change.
FYI, DOO at my job says only OS management sees actual PT info. - The masses just hear body of report stuff and type

for now I will keep a list and see what the pattern is. I know my pain doc agrees 100% with me and uses a local..

Has Anyone Sued An MTSO In A Different State For Unpaid Wages? Sm
Apr 17, 2013

I just briefly scanned through the small claim filing rules for here in Colorado, and it looks like I would have to file a claim in her state (Texas). I just wondered if anyone else had done this and if it was worth it. I am an IC and after months and months of never being paid on time, I was smart enough not to work much and so she only owes me a little over $300, but I hate to let her get by with stealing even that much from me. TIA ...

You are without a doubt the rudest and most negative person I have ever met. for your information, I have been a medical transcriptionist since 1988, 24 years. How dare you call me a snail typist when you don't even know me?!!!!Also, telling me not to come here and gripe well ain't that the pot calling the kettle black!!! All I see on this site is griping. But I see this is only for the select few. I hope you have a very negative Christmas as that is what you seem to enjoy the most. ...

Got A Reply From ScribeRight, Suggestions Anyone?
May 11, 2012

Ok, so I heard some great things about ScribeRight so I sent them my resume via their website. I got a reply back today, asking me a couple simple questions about my skills and also sent 4 files to transcribe (3 sound pretty easy, 1 will be hard for me since I have no experience in that field, Onc). My question is....is it worth it to move? The company I currently work for (and have for many years) is 0.045 SRT/.07 straight typing. My pay scale has consistently gone down the last 2 years (surpr ...

Since Our Reorganization I Never Get A Reply To Emails Like

This Is Reply I Made To Someone On The Nuance
Nov 20, 2012

This was in answer to a question regarding why we continue to bang our heads against a wall working for these evil MTSOs:  When my little mid-sized MTSO was gobbled up by a larger one, lots of people who knew the score bailed immediately. I'd never been through a buyout before, and when they had their big conference call telling us "nothing would change" for us, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. The next meeting a few months later told us that, "well... there might ...

First employee check from the company (been an IC for over 5 years, went to employee status Jan 1) and I wasn't paid for my hours, only my production which equaled less than min wage for the hours. I've emailed them time and time again since 1/18/11 and all I get is "we're working on it" without any type of real answer as to what it is they are working on. Why Do Companies Post Jobs And Never Reply?
May 20, 2015

It's become increasingly worse. If you advertise and receive resumes from MTs who are qualified, at least set up an auto response stating you have received their E-mail. It's common courtesy. And companies wonder why they can't obtain or retain help. Well, when you can't be bothered to even communicate at a minimum level, do not expect to receive excellent help in return.  ...
