Spelling bee - anon

Posted: Apr 22, 2010

I have just recently noticed a LOT of spelling going on.  Just now doc spelled Imuran and Toprol.  Yesterday it was simple things like "lingual."  It is on different accounts and by different doctors.

I sometimes wonder if it's because of all the offshored charts that are slipping back through to the client without a good editing.

I am starting to hear doctors spell even the simplest of English words like the last name Smith.

Of course they don't always spell out the first name which may be questionable as far as its spelling. lol

Yesterday I got a doc that was very angry sounding. When he dictated the preop diagnosis he spelled everything and said with an attitude, "pleeeeze do not put a blank" and then he spelled it all out again. I think its the FTR thing and they are getting upset about all the blanks.

What does FTR mean? Not an MQ employee - thanks

FTR - stands for First Time Right

the overall not so wonderful idea by MQ where MTs are allowed to to make the decision whether to send a chart with blanks to QA or just send it directly to the client. If your total lines submitted to QA for the week surpass 5% of your total lines types for the week, you are docked 3 cents for every line typed from then on for the rest of the week. In effect this really encourages guessing and not just not worrying about getting a second ear to listen to blanks.
The second winning essay said it is a BRILLIANT idea, - anony

so it must be a brilliant idea! Wonder if there will be an essay contest about why it failed if indeed it does and QA is restored? That would be good.

These docs should report their concerns to someone who can - do something about it

Docs too quickly assume that everyone around them is stupid.

If they took the smallest amount of interest in what happens to their medical record, they could be an agent for positive change in the industry.

Instead, they are wooed by consultants with presentations and pie charts.

It's a culture of disrespect, and it galls them that a productive, intelligent "typist" should make $50,000 a year.

MQ probably gave docs that idea on a list of suggestions - to reduce blanks, lol - nm

It is extremely annoying. Slows me down, half the time - anon

the doctor misspells it anyway, never spells anything that I might find helpful, and is hard to get in a groove with him stopping and spelling every third word.

Spelling Versus Not Spelling
Feb 11, 2011

I never thought I'd say this, but a dictator can do too much spelling.  There is one at my company who spells out every single medication.  While this is normally helpful, this doctor's pronounciation leaves a little to be desired.  It would be much simpler for him to just say the name of the medication.  ...

Thanks For The Spelling Lesson, Doc
Nov 28, 2013

I'm not sure what got into Dr. Knucklehead's brain tonight, but he's spelling words like pannus, Trileptal, anasarca (which he spelled wrong).  It's bad enough he's doing it as often as he is because he's completely messing up the voice recognition for his drafts, but he has spelled pannus every freaking time he has said it. The patient has cellulitis below her pannus, so the word is coming up a lot in this report.   I have one more hour to go and then a ...
