I always worry when a doc starts spelling - pretty simple words

Posted: Dec 07, 2011

He spelled cytoreduction for me tonight.  That makes me think that someone else misspelled it.

I just worry - in today's climate, if we make enough mistakes will they decide it 's easier to do it themselves if we can't do it right?

It's late and I'm rambling, but I do think about this.

you are right to worry...s/m - sereneone

I was on an account where doc started spelling "latter" b/c someone was spelling it "ladder" as he indicated exactly that, as well as other simple English words. Account went to point and click and edit your own speech recognition a few months later. May have been just a coincidence but you never know.

That's because offshore MTs have trouble - with simple English

and poorly trained newbs have trouble with the medical terms. You may have one or the other working on your account.

The client is getting what they pay for. Unfortunately for those of us who do our jobs right, it still makes us look bad as well.

Oh... and another I forgot to mention is the - exp MT who has had

their CPL slashed down to the point where they get "sloppy" because they're rushing. Usually the proofreading step is the first to be cut when trying to get lines, lines, lines in to make up for a pay cut. Sad.

Wish it were only offshores mangling English. We don't - have any, and I am constantly

shaking my head over mistakes I see in other reports. Stupid mistakes. Mistakes displaying a very unacceptable level of ignorance and limited vocabularies.

Just this morning I thought a physician who dictated the words "dearth of" was being unusually trusting in or respectful of us to risk varying that far (not very!) from basic phrasing. BTW, this erudite gentleman is from the subcontinent.

Agreed. Since a large MTSO took over - alana

our hospital account last year, the doctors are spelling many words they never had to spell in the past. The work is transcribed in the US only. A few of us from the hospital stayed on as ICs and we see the absolute garbage that goes out. At one point we felt sorry for the transcriptionists who are making pennies, but it is apparent that spelling is not a priority. Further, this account is blessed with English-speaking doctors who might be quirky but they are clear.

Why Does This Stupid Company Worry About Production
Mar 04, 2015

They have no work for us through their own manipulations. Almost everything now is on the inept, rotten VR so they can cut pay even more. They have the audacity to direct you to lie on your time card and even with doing so, production numbers would not look good because of them--goal being for us to mind their store all day through our workday and beyond, but they will cheat us out of even lousy minimum wage and overtime rightfully earned . When will this company have stolen enough! Hope to ...

Spelling Versus Not Spelling
Feb 11, 2011

I never thought I'd say this, but a dictator can do too much spelling.  There is one at my company who spells out every single medication.  While this is normally helpful, this doctor's pronounciation leaves a little to be desired.  It would be much simpler for him to just say the name of the medication.  ...

MTStars A Community Of US Medical Transcriptionists And Their Companies Who Worry About What Is Bein
May 21, 2013

My point having been made in 2 short weeks, I will no longer be hanging out on this board.  Nuance, in its attempts to hide its egregious activities with certain employees, has infiltrated this board and it is no longer truly a community of US medical transcriptionists, but has become what could more aptly be called, "A company opportunity to do damage control for all POTENTIAL new employees about what the former employees said when they quit."  The board can, however, still ser ...

Is MT Starts Not Well Known?
May 28, 2010

Currently it says there are 161 visitors online.  Of all the MTs in the US this just seems like such a smalllllll number.  I know it gets up to like 320 that is the most I have seen EVER, and I have been on this board for a couple years (with some longer periods of absence for some reason)... Just wondering why there aren't more people?  I mean, not that I think there should be, I never have enough time to read any of the posts as it is haha...   ...

And So It Starts
Jun 29, 2014

I have a bad feeling about this one.  Some of you may "know" me, i am here once in a while, have been for a few years.  I am coder at a very large facility in midwest and have been for years. Last year our hospital installed Computer Assisted Coding and we are implementing it in stages.  First we used the annotated fields just to help identifying things that may/may not need to be coded.  Then we started getting suggested codes to go with the annotated information.  Then ...

Can Anyone Tell Me When PTO Accrual Starts?
Aug 11, 2010

I thought in training I was told that it started accruing immediately (full time/full benefits), but looking back through my pay stubs, I didn't start accruing it until after I had been with the Q over 5 months. I've been looking on MQCentral, but I can't seem to find the answer.  I would love to know if they owe me back PTO...which would help a lot since I sit here for the third day in a row with no work! Thanks! ...

What Happens When Obamacare Starts In 2014?
Apr 02, 2011

I was wondering what my fellow MTs think is going to happen starting 2014 when Obamacare kicks in.  I had read an article in the NY Post a while back that 74% of MDs surveyed plan to work part time, retire from medicine, or go in a new direction careerwise.  Do you think we'll see a decrease in work available, even SR editing work?  Do you think that if a great amount of MDs cut back or retire from medicine that would cause our profession to lessen in demand? ...

EditScript - Starts To Get Slow

Lately after I have done a few reports, EditScript starts to get slow.  I hit a key and there is a delay before it does anything.  Not much of a delay, but still delayed enough to slow me down.  Eventually, it gets soo slow that uploading the current report and downloading the next one becomes next to impossible and I have to close it out and reboot the program.  Anyone else experience this or know the problem and a fix?  TIA ...
