Retired 10 working days early - kitty lady

Posted: Jul 17, 2013

Well, after last thursday night such bad dictators and made no money--so just getting min wage, I finally retired 10 working days early.  So sad when you can make more money working 25 hours a week in a grocery store as a customer service rep, cashier, and working on self-scans.  Such a relief to get away from this company.  Hope you all have a good summer and I am out of here.

I left, too - Not worth the stress

I left in October. Too much nonsense. Too early for me to retire (I am 58), but I can't take MT anymore and it was having a physical effect on me. Hubby starts collecting Social Security in September, so we decided I could just find some menial job part-time.

We aren't the Rockefellers, but we played our life smart from the get-go and have substantial-enough savings that we will start drawing on in a few years. As long as we don't end up with serious health problems (or live into our 90s!) we should be fine.

Just curious ladies... how long did you work for MModal (Medquist)?? I am also looking forward to the day I retire but still have a couple years left I think. :)

I've been here about 25 years and I've been a QAS/MME for about the last 18 of those years. I really love my job because of the variety. It's been a roller coaster ride, good times, bad times, but I'm cautiously optimistic that the worm will turn again... for the better. I would advise MTs to look into becoming an MME if possible as you'll have a lot more accts available to you and should rarely run out of work.... at least that's my personal experience.

15 More Work Days--Early Retirement Here I Come
Jul 02, 2013

15 days and early retirement.  Can't wait until I write my letter to MModal to tell them what I think of them--will not do any good and will probably give them a good laugh for the day.  Used to love this job, but now HATE it.  Social Security with penalty and working 25 hours making more money and will be the end of 65 hour work weeks to make ends meet.  VIRTUAL RETIREMENT PARTY!!!!!! ...

Filing For Early Social Security/Working Part-time
Apr 07, 2012

Anyone here working part-time and receiving early Social Security benefits? I am considering doing this in the next year and wondering if anyone else is already doing so. Thoughts?  I've been working full-time since the age of 18 years and part-time before that, with only a 6-month period of time between jobs, but was collecting severance pay those 6 months. So, I really feel I deserve to get back some of the money I've put into Social Security over the last 4-1/2 d ...

Days Not Working Schedule?
Mar 07, 2012

What constitutes missing scheduled shifts?  I thought it was 3 days - now told its 2?  I had internet connection problems and we all know how that is!!  I called and LM on supv VM but she apparently SAYS she didnt get it and apparently now they have to answer to the "HIGHER UP SUITS" on why her direct reports did't work their shifts.  She didn't even address the days I couldn't work -- it was all about clocking out 15 min. early weeks earlier -- really???  ...

Retired MT
Jan 28, 2015

I haven't been on this post in years, but decided to check it out.  I used to work for MedQuist/MModal from 2006 to 2012 and in that time the company had gone downhill.  I had to leave due to health problems, but believed the company's irregular and inconsistent rules and regulations contributed to that.  That aside, I want you to know that I always loved being an MT.  It was challenging to learn new things every day, listening to different doctors and doing my best ...

Semi Retired MT
Oct 21, 2010

I have been considering taking on a PT position with an MTSO at home.  Tested, passed and am being offered 10.5 cpl transcription, .7 cpl VR.  (I have never worked at home, retired a year ago from in-house company where I worked for 25+ years).  This rate seems generous by the board posting norms.  Is it a too good to believe situation?  Or should I take it?  (biggest co.  starts with an M...) ...

Retired And Not Looking Back
Aug 08, 2013

It has been a month since I retired. No more stress headaches. No more babysitting the computer to get my lines in. It was worth the $200 I lost each month for early retirement. I am still working 3 days a week,21/25 hours but much, much less stress. This is the last time I will be visiting this site. I wish you all good luck in the future. If you enjoy working for MModal then you are lucky. To all those unhappy there, I hope you find a better job and that you are happy. Good luck a ...

Retired 3 Weeks Ago...I Am Free!!! Smg
Mar 12, 2014

After 49-1/2 years in this profession (slavery lately) I decided to retire 6 months earlier than planned.  I really agonized over whether I had made the right decision and wondered if I would miss working. Well, I don't one bit!!   I can now actually sit down and enjoy my morning cupo of jo, I can walk to the bathroom to pee and not run to get back to the KB, no longer have to worry as to whether my timesheet punches are accurate, and most importantly, I don't ...

Early Retirement ?
Dec 17, 2012

Thinking about taking early retirement and just working part time.  I understand I can make a little over 14,000 without reduction in social security benefits.  I would however have to purchase private insurance until I am old enough for Medicare.  Anyone done this or have any input on it?   ...

According to my info, my only acct has asked the Accentus not to transcribe. QRS is on vacation. No real info from anyone else. Is this something that happens frequently at this company? You are just told to stop working & hang on? Obviously, people can't afford to be that casual. ...

Salary At Early 1990s Level
Jul 18, 2010

I have been with my current company for a number of years, but due to a number of changes that have been instituted in just the last few years, I have realized about a 37% reduction in income, at the same time that I am considered "one of their best," and am back to my income level of the early 1990s.  I see foreclosure looming.  That VR/SR has become the majority of the work is the largest factor in this drop.  Are there MTs who are working for companies with little or no VR ...

Co-workers Signing Off Shift Early
May 16, 2011

Do any of you have this problem? There are several us on one particularly account. They will either sign off 5-6 hours into their 8 hr shift (saying they've met their minimum quota)or sometimes on weekends just leave work not done til the next day. I have the last shift and have to stay until all docs are finished no matter how late. Therefore, I get "mop up" duty every day. Any helpful suggestions? Oh, by the way, they "cherry pick" the short reports and I get left with the extremely long ...
