scoping for court reporters - Huge

Posted: Jul 26, 2010

I am considering taking a scoping course/do reports for court reporters, may be in the future to make a switch from medical transcription.  Anyone has any advice for me.  Thanks.

I took this course - AJ

Could NOT recommend it! I didn't find any reporters who used scopists and the scoping course you see advertised gave very little help in making connections. Look closely at this before you commit nearly 2K$!

I am currently interning in a great program. You might want to check it out. www.joyfulscoping.com. It is not even close to 2 grand!!! They also have drawings for certain parts of their program, which if you win, you get for free. I believe they are the only program that is applying for accreditation, whereas other programs are not accredited. Other programs tend to be self-taught on line, this one has a live person who spends time actually teaching classes.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'll check it out

They also give medical transcriptionists a nice discount - Impressed

I may check into this and sign on. The investment isn't all that much, all things considered, and the course sounds interesting. It wouldn't be a bad skill to fall back on "just in case."

Scoping. Has Anyone Ever Done This?
Jul 01, 2010

I keep seeing this ad and it seems so interesting but I also feel it is probably as scam.  Does anyone have experience in this at all?  It seems like it would be so easy for a good transcriptionist to do this.  I'm just starting to so loathe my job and want a change. I even attempted the court reporting but I couldn't get past using phonetics instead of spelling words correctly.  It drove me crazy and it is very hard to train for one and work for ...

Court Reporting
Mar 03, 2011

As I have all of my eggs in one basket with medical transcription, I am looking into court reporting.  I have been in this industry for 20 years and I have seen the constant decline of this industry.   I am just curious if anyone has knowledge of court reporting and if it would be an easy transition.  I will primarily be focused on worker's comp depositions.  I don't foresee any problem with the doctor's deposition as I have the medical terminology down.  Thanks for any i ...

MedQuist Inc. is set to buy bankrupt medical transcription firm Spheris Inc., sources confirmed to NashvillePost.com this morning. The New Jersey-based company came out on top in the race to buy Spheris' assets, beating out competitors Transcend Services and Nuance Communications in an auction that apparently lasted through Wednesday night and into this morning.   It is unclear this morning what price MedQuist (Ticker: MEDQ) will actually pay for Spheris. Transcend offered $7 ...

Will MTs become dinosaurs?  Will everything be point-and-click by the doctors and traditional dictation become a thing of the past?  I've been using IntraScript for my doctors' dictation for many years now.  Will these types of digital platforms become obsolete?
