Save me from myself! (Rant ahead) - Polly

Posted: Feb 24, 2011

This particular doc is super-annoying. He word salads/mumbles/sputters/, says things he thinks are funny and then laughs at his own "joke" (as in "I told the patient not to set himself on fire again while smoking crack heh-heh-heh"), and tonight he clearly and deliberately enunciated a phrase and then said, "I thought you people would have gotten this by now." WTF??? Among other things, this guy could not key in the correct number of a report if there were only 1 button on his dictating machine, not to mention his spectacularly bad dictation. I suppose it would be a HIPAA violation to type "F---you, Dr. X" after his snide comment. How do other MTs cope with irritation/anger at jerk doctors?

I give 'em H-E- - Double-Hockeysticks

I tell them exactly what I think of them, their jokes, their attitudes, their whole species sometimes ... right out loud, using any language that trips off my tongue, getting as dramatic and nasty or sarcastic or condescending as the mood strikes.

My dog, a very expressive and engaging Border Collie, will perk up and listen because I must be talking to her as there is only us two in the house, and sometimes I end my rant with - and Liberty thinks so too! (that's the dog) - which she translates into - let's go for a walk !! Tongue out - and gets all doggie-jiggity.

This last part is pretty funny, makes me laugh (at both of us), and breaks the tension and frustration at the idiot doc-in-the-box. Then we go for a walk because I can't say no to her reaction and it does us both good.

That's what I do.

Same here, except I have a cat. - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
It's just me and the cat at home when I work, so I go off on a tirade, using words I don't use in polite conversation, and when Daphne (the cat) looks at me, I say "and Daphne agrees!"

I have a doc that has a terrible accent, cannot use proper tenses, and constantly switches between "he" and "she" throughout his dictation - it's like he forgets if the patient is a male or female! Then he complains that I don't type his work verbatum. So I started typing his work verbatum and in one report, he make a joke about the patient's life sounding like a country song - so I typed it. I get the report back a day later with a note that the doctor had a tizzy because I typed in his little joke! Make up your freaking mind! My rants were in rare form that day ;)

This poster is right, though - just let it all out. It makes you feel better because then you can laugh and that always eases the tension and makes things more bearable.

Be professional. Bring it to the attention of your supervisor. Certainly this physician is being quiet unprofessional and his superiors should be notified. They will handle it with him.

Maybe - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe they will handle it. We can certainly hope. But, where I have worked, there is no confronting the speakers. They continue on in their obvious oblivion to continue the same behavior. No one, it seems, even asks them to stop doing such things as talking while yawning or eating, or coughing and sneezing right into the microphone as loudly as possible, so as to break my eardrums and put me out of business!!

It would probably be a violation to say "[bleep] you", - but not to type everything he says verbatim!

Been there.
Did that.

It felt GOOOOOOOD!

I would just be having mental images of a 165 pound Rottweiler I know going for his jugular. (Actually, the Rottie is a really nice dog who has never bitten anybody ever and would probably just lick him to death.) But I can relate to how you feel. I have a foreign doc who cannot speak English, in addition to which he has a severe stuttering problem, and is just generally obnoxious and full of attitude. I know he cannot help the stuttering, but he can help the other antics. Too bad I am on the West Coast and he is on the East Coast, or I could arrange to have Matilda the Rottie pay him a visit!

Warning! Rant Ahead!
Dec 14, 2010

So my company is moving everyone from IC to employee on Jan 1. Pros: PTO days, insurance for FT, and they deal with taxes. Cons: I don't need their insurance. I want the "employer paid" portion in my check, which we won't get. Expected daily production went up. Level to reach incentive pay went up and not calculated daily. CPL rate went down 15%! And that's for standard transcription, not VR. Just in production pay alone, I'm losing $100-150 per pay period. Even wh ...

I Am So Done With Medquist-warning Rant Ahead
Mar 31, 2010

I have to say, I never really believed everyone on this board when they were saying they are trying to get rid of the high-producing employees, etc, but I am now seeing it in action.  Believe every word you have read here.  I NEVER thought it would happen to be me, been with Medquist (or some company snapped up by it) for over 10 years.  I have now failed my second audit in a row.  It is almost like they just searched and searched for reports until they found ones they could ...

Anyone Get 100% On An Audit Okay Go Ahead And Brag
Oct 23, 2009

I just wanted to know if it was possible!  I am nit picked to death by our whatchamacallit person who audits (I think they changed their title again?) For the past 2 audits I only came in at 97%.  I think we are suppose to be at 98.9%, but they are all stupid things... like a hyphen or a comma.  I forget sometimes that standard grammar may not apply to MT, but if it was stated in the AAMT BOS or client profile I tend to do it!  All 3 of the reports pulled were  ...

Reading Ahead While Editing
Oct 29, 2010

I've read in quite a few posts here that one of the ways to speed up your editing process is to read ahead of the highlighter. I've also read that some people read up to a whole sentence ahead. I cannot believe that people do this. What if the doctor says something that you didn't catch? Sometimes sentences make sense and you are not aware that the doctor said something because you were paying attention to correcting the draft. Can someone explain to me how you do this without mak ...

OMG Think Of All The $$$ MQ Could Save If We
Nov 14, 2011

used those little emoticon thingies.  I don't know many of them, but I understand there are dozens.  These could obviously be used in our reports so we don't get paid for actual words... If prognosis is guarded, use that little frownie face. That heart thing could be used for dozens of things. Wow, docs could just use their "smart" phones to enter gibberish abbreviations and signs and MQ could just have us edit them for no money whatsoever. What's the world coming to ...

Sep 17, 2010

Have had absolutely NO problems with the new 6.1 DQS until today and then right in the middle of a long staight type report (wouldn't you know) everything started locking up. I looked down at task bar and saw a message that said virus scan windows workstations (group task) was running and then auto-save kicked in every few minutes. Save Your Job- Sign This Petition
Nov 20, 2012

As many of you know, EMR companies charge fees upwards of 15,000 dollars to allow transcription companies to integrate with them. This barrier to entry will lead to us all being replaced by voice recognition or point and click unless we all do something. There is no reason transcriptionists can not co-exist with EMR's. Doctors still need someone to type their records up for them. It is simply a faster and a more efficient use of resources to keep us in the loop. Eliminating these EMR fees ...

Way To Save Voice Files In EBTXT?

Fabulous Way To Save Money On Coding Books!
Aug 16, 2012

Now that I have your attention . . .it is THAT TIME of year again.  Before you order your 2013 code books, remember that there is only one ICD-9 diagnosis code change for 2013.  You do not need to buy a new book this year.  Just get the change from the CDC website and add it by hand.  Same with the procedures. There will be a gazillion CPT changes, sad to say, so get a head start on those.  The CPT books should be available soon, if not already.  The AMA publishes ...
