So my company is moving everyone from IC to employee on Jan 1.

Pros: PTO days, insurance for FT, and they deal with taxes.

Cons:

  • I don't need their insurance. I want the "employer paid" portion in my check, which we won't get.
  • Expected daily production went up.
  • Level to reach incentive pay went up and not calculated daily.
  • CPL rate went down 15%! And that's for standard transcription, not VR.Yell

Just in production pay alone, I'm losing $100-150 per pay period. Even when I calculate how much I pay in taxes as IC versus what my employer would be taking out, I'm still losing about $100.  Then I'm sure they'll be moving everyone to VR and cut that pay by 15% too.

I haven't had a "raise" in 5 years and now it's going in the wrong direction! Pretty soon we'll be working for next to nothing like the Phillipines.

I'm usually optimistic about changes but this is ridiculous. How can they expect us to live off of what they want to pay us? Oh, wait...that's right, they don't care.  Perhaps next time a DR complains about a mistake in a report, they can take a look at how little we get paid, the lousy dictators we have to put up with, and the sometimes ridiculous hours we have to keep.

All this coming on top of the fact that this month I'm only making about $300 because there's just no work available right now.....but at least my laundry isn't piling up at all. Undecided

Christmas was already hard enough to fund without this problem.  After paying my bills, I won't have a dime left for anything else.  Hope the kids understand.

let me guess, you are working for Transcend? Cuz they told me that they were discontinuing all IC, moving everyone to employee status. Yes, with a cut in pay. Of course! That's the bad news....the good news is that Transcend's 3 quarter earnings are up 43%. Yes, balancing the budget on the back of the transcriptionist grunts in the trenches. (inject heavy sarcasm here).

I'm in the middle of all that Transcend switcharoo, too, but in a way I suppose I'm glad about the cuts in pay to my typing rate and the essential cut in pay with VR I took a while ago because it finally gave me the kick in the pants I needed to get back in college and work on getting out of MT.

because I received the same info but I won't be really losing anything because I don't get enough work to make the minimum line count anyway.

I can't even make my December house payment because of the drastic drop in Nov/Dec so Christmas won't be happening here at all.

True, Christmas should not depend on gifts and such...but I wasn't even talking about gifts. When you cannot even afford to buy the ham for the dinner because every dime I did manage to scrape up has to go to the mortgage and utilities, it's hard to make something out of nothing..even for Christmas.

And I am very poor (thanks to MedQuist, but that is another story). Still and all, I make arrangements to make payments on my bills, I do not have money for entertainment or extras or even gifts, but I refuse to let that bring me down or dictate how I feel. And that is EXACTLY the point.

that this company is really not giving any benefits at all. We can get comparable health insurance now for about the same amount as we will pay under the group plan. The PTO and FICA are really not paid by the company. They are paid through a reduction in our line rate.

The comment about Christmas was a side note relating to the fact that our pay has dropped dramatically in the past two months, not the point of the thread.

This particular doc is super-annoying. He word salads/mumbles/sputters/, says things he thinks are funny and then laughs at his own "joke" (as in "I told the patient not to set himself on fire again while smoking crack heh-heh-heh"), and tonight he clearly and deliberately enunciated a phrase and then said, "I thought you people would have gotten this by now." I put the correct info in, the client facility number, etc, and it will begin to load, and then slowly, I will get 1 green bar, 2 green bars (over the course of several minutes, now 5 to be exact) and it will just lock up there....I have NO time to wait for it to load.... And another thing, on the search page where you can click on "use my company number" --WHY is this there?  That is where you put the facility number?  So stupid.  Okay, I don't expect any answers to this q ...

I just wanted to know if it was possible!  I am nit picked to death by our whatchamacallit person who audits (I think they changed their title again?) I've read in quite a few posts here that one of the ways to speed up your editing process is to read ahead of the highlighter. I've also read that some people read up to a whole sentence ahead. I cannot believe that people do this. What if the doctor says something that you didn't catch? Sometimes sentences make sense and you are not aware that the doctor said something because you were paying attention to correcting the draft. Can you tell it has been about 5 years since I have done ortho surgery!  I tried to hear volar, plantar, articular, raw, anything I knew, but just couldn't.  Here is the whold sentence:  The medial compartment has a complex tear of the meniscal root and the posterior horn.  Otherwise, meniscus is normal s/l caratoid/caroid surface of grade 1 to 2 changes, but no significant thinning.  Thanks!  ...

I work for a small MT company that put me on a small account with 4 doctors, and I was told that I'd be the only MT.  Within a week it was obvious someone else was taking all the work, and I was told that this other MT was only supposed to take jobs "when necessary."  However, she takes all the jobs the second they show up.  Despite watching like a hawk for 10 hours a day, I get maybe 35% of the dictations overall, and the whole time I know that this other MT has OTHER work s ...

I have tried to give DSG a chance because I really hate changing jobs, but damn... this ASR gets worse every single day. I thought I was developing a rhythm and some speed with it finally and now it can't complete a single solitary sentence in any report I've had in the last three days without a serious error. I think I could really make good money on VR if I was the only one on my account or if it learned specifically to each person editing.  I'm getting so tired of working on reports for a day to finally get them to start coming out needing little editing by the end of the day and then coming back on the next day to find the same reports SO full of errors after different people were on the account for the next shift.  It's great when you have other people who are good at their jo ...

Okay.  Well, I decided to test with my old company again (SoftScript) with which I had  been employed for four years.  I failed their test.  My rant is this.  Am I being unfair to think that it is on record that I worked for them four years, was never late, always got my lines, always got 98% or above on audits (my last audit was 100%)  and it has only been 5 months since I left ??  Shouldn't all of this be taken into account ??  I suppose n ...

I am so tired of listening to their (literally) 14-minute discussions with other residents while they are dictating a 4-minute op note. Mandatory OT????? I used to love transcription. I felt competent and like I was doing a service to patients by making their medical records into an understandible format. When I was working oftentimes I would be "in the zone" and time would pass by quickly. I felt proficient. Have you ever noticed than when a dictator tries to adopt a "conversational" style of dictating, that it is very hard to try and figure out what's being said?  They start and stop several times so that you can't remember what the original line of dictation was, plus they add "you know" every other sentence.  I DON'T KNOW!!!!!  My account is a verbatim one and so I figure out as near as I can what he's saying and then send it through.  ...

My Big Rant - $48 Versus $81!!!!

For the hours I worked yesterday, I earned a total of $48!!! The breakdown was 60% ASR and 40% typing,and out of 3 jobs I get paid for typing, 2 of them were ASR jobs that I had to F11!!!! If I had typed all of the jobs, I would have earned $81. Talk about a slap in the face, both professionally and reality-wise. Reality with the Q is worse than I thought.
