geez...only 3 signed petition - needing 100,000 signatures by today?

how pathetic. nobody cares, not even you who wish to do the work.

Re: Only 3 signatures - just me

When the first petitions that President Obama has had to address because they had the required signature count are about deporting Piers sp? Morgan and blowing up planets it's telling as to the mindset of the American people.

President Obama/the government might as well shut the petition site down so that he, and everyone else, doesn't waste his time having to answer to silly stupidity, because likely petitions like those will be the only ones that get the required signatures.

What a shame.

I signed it AND I posted the link on my Facebook page asking my friends and family to sign it as well. That is what EVERYONE who cares needs to do - get EVERYONE to sign it, as while it might affect OUR jobs, it does affect everyone's medical records. :)

How can it have an expiration date of yesterday when it was - only created today? nm

But look at when it was created. It says today. Something seems off. - nm

There goes quality assurance. (Not to mention the two grammar/punctuation errors in the first sentence of the petition.)
It's poorly written and conceived overall, and so I won't sign it. - NM

Edit: It sure is pot kettle black to talk about lack of quality offshore with quality of writing like that. As it stands, it's an embarrassing representation of US MTs.

Now you know why at least one person hasn't signed. It wasn't because of a lack of caring about the issue on my part.

it's pretty darn silly to request support for language specialists with a document that contains even one error. Especially if we are trying to make the point that U.S. MTs are superior!
Me either...it's littered with punctuation errors. - just sayin
[ In Reply To ..]
It doesn't speak much to the quality of work that we as US MTs do with mistakes like that. I guess if that's "too picky," then so be it.
write your own then if you are so picky about - punctuation errors....
[ In Reply To ..]
you guys are all too quick to stand in judgment of somebody else, but you will not stand up and do anything either. You want everybody else to do it for you, but when they do, it is pick at this and pick at that. I don't see you doing anything at all to help the situation, so that does not give you the right to object to someone who is. just sayin! (hate that phrase!)
check yourself - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
No one is standing in judgment. You have no right to assume that others "will not stand up and do anything". No one is asking "everyone else" to do it for them.

Let me tell you something: If someone deigns to speak for my profession by publishing a petition rife with errors, I have every right to object.
did you start another petition? - anon

Maybe that would work better instead of insulting others. At least that person is trying to make a difference.

I can't even begin to parse the second sentence in the paragraph. I would have capitalized "bring" too, but that wasn't a deal-breaker like the other issues.

If you guys do not like the way it was written - write one yourselves instead of

picking apart the one that had the to do something, anything at all, to help us all. NO. Instead, you have to tear it apart, say it is an embarrassment, and refuse to sign! I don't see any of the rest of you stepping up to the plate and at least making an attempt! Good gracious! I have put some of these petitions online myself, and due to the online program, many of these "errors" are due to the system itself. It is not like typing in Word. It's almost like VR and kind of jumbles everything together. Give the poor OP a break, will ya! If you don't like how its done...do your own!!! and MAYBE someone will sign yours.
I've signed other MT petitions, like the one the now-defunct ATA had going. - sm

(See "What is Wrong with Offshoring Transcription?" at the top of the board.) And 1 or 2 others.

I personally don't think they're going to make any real difference in the long run except maybe raise some awareness, which is never a bad thing, but it's not enough payoff, in my opinion, for me to spend the time writing one myself, though I will sign any that I think are worthy.

But, please, give ME a break about the program being the reason for the difference between citizen's vs. citizens', for example. Oy.

Besides that English is spoken around the globe - (do we not know that?) AND

[ In Reply To ..]
the silly notion that people "offshore" are by definition more dishonest, less trustworthy than ones on, most embarrassing is that this petition reveals a rather complete misunderstanding of what's happening technologically and economically in the world today.

I'd recommend reading "Parts 1, 2, and 3" posted right now in the Politics Forum to see what I mean. That three-part article from the Washington Post discusses permanent, massive losses of jobs in EVERY industry to change. Not just lower income jobs either--the term "hollowing out" of the middle class is used because so many skilled jobs have disappeared and are not coming back.

This is not a little MT problem. It's HUGE, and it's everyone's problem.

appreciate this smart post - nm

This is just my opinion but I personally think Change.org gets the word out to more people. Petitions are emailed to anyone who is on their email list.
I don't know anything about petitions and starting one but shouldn't it also be directed to the healthcare administration, Congress, along with the Obama administration and anyone else of importance.
I would start it myself but I am a newbie and believe me I do want to save our jobs. I don't really have the full knowledge of what is going on and it has not affected me like it has affected all you experienced transcriptionists.
I would be happy to help anyone or if there are some that want to assist me I will start it.
One more thing, can we also say something about VR not being as accurate as a person along with offshoring work or is that playing with fire?
Opinions, advice anyone?

a different approach - anon

Along with signing the petition, everyone should call their local senator, state representative, congressman, local newspaper, etc. Americans don't know that their personal medical information is being sent overseas and they have a right to know this information. So instead of coming on here and bashing each other and the MTSOs, let's see if we can make a change.

Save Your Job- Sign This Petition

As many of you know, EMR companies charge fees upwards of 15,000 dollars to allow transcription companies to integrate with them. This barrier to entry will lead to us all being replaced by voice recognition or point and click unless we all do something. There is no reason transcriptionists can not co-exist with EMR's. Doctors still need someone to type their records up for them. It is simply a faster and a more efficient use of resources to keep us in the loop. Eliminating these EMR fees ...
