Is it reasonable to request one work type-sm - OldMT

I have been working for an MTSO and my main account is everything from cardiac catheterizations to discharge summaries to OP notes to consults to psychiatric notes. It is a wide range of specialties. I am not making any money. I'm all over the board every day and I am frustrated. Do you think it is a reasonable request to ask for just one or two work types? TIA

You can, but I bet you get "no work" more often, - if not let go for not doing work assigned

I love how it used to be, one account, got to know the dictators like the back of your hand, and flew through the reports, making a ton of money. Now I bounce around on 18 accounts, all work types, head spinning all day, and making no money. But hey, the accounts are 100% TAT and the supervisors earn their bonus, so who cares about us.

Agree with that, plus you'd run the risk of being reclassified - with the newbies as not fully skilled. SM

Potentially very dangerous. With so many other MTs on the various accounts handled by our supervisors, we can't expect to be remembered for what we could provide if we wished, only for what we do provide day after day.

Having one primary account at least is a blessing. For those unintelligible dictators I don't see often enough to know what they're saying from familiarity, I stuff standard text sentences and even whole reports into my expander, where they can be accessed quickly. Like Tylhe for the HEENT Dr. Tyler is always trying to break his speed record on. :)

Needless to say, I do that for some of the worst people on my other accounts, though for those I tend to quickly dump whole reports into storage for quick references more than canned texts to insert.

You could say I'd so much rather have cardiac caths than emergency room reports, or whatever. I did that once. For some reason they had me on ERs which I hate and I said I'd rather do ops. It was changed by the end of the day.

would work for you because most dictations that are difficult to begin with can become good money makers once you get them nailed, with familiarity, lots of templates, everybody's phrases in the expander, etc. Only problem, of course, is that change always happens.

Hi: I have worked for the same hospital for 12.5 years, so there is a lot of loyalty there. I live in a southern state in the USA. I get paid an hourly pay plus $0.47 incentive for anything over 90 minutes. My hourly pay to me is low, but not below $10.00 an hour. Is 20.00 per hour appropriate or am I wrong? I just typed three-quarters of a report out because the MT gave up after doing a quarter of it. it seems like when I request time off, maybe for 4 lousy hours or whether it be a whole day I either get audited or have a meaningless 1.9 long report come back to me within 20 minutes of requesting time off which the report had the word "the" left out which did not change the report "only educational for the MT" .
