I want to make it clear that this is not a rail against all MTSOs; there are MTSO's still out there who are NOTmotivated by greed, and who continue to pay their employees very well.
I have worked for companies which historically have paid employees much higher CPL than other companies - Keystrokes and MTP (both based in Illinois, owned by former MTs, and as far as I know, all work still on US soil) - and several of these companies actually DO pay employees "more than fair" hourly wages to keep clients happy and within TAT on the most high maintenance accounts. For companies such as those I've listed above, who do NOT cheat MTs, any talk of hourly minimum wage requirement is moot; their employees are treated more than fairly, and given the opportunity to earn up to 5 times more than minimum wage.
Every MT who reads this knows which companies are indicated; those companies need not be mentioned here.
California has more criteria, more comprehensive and very specific DOL laws in place, however, on a state to state basis, there are specific acts/laws addressing fair and equal wages for women and children, laws (not all states) requiring employers to give 30 to 60 day notice prior to major lay-offs or major job downgrades, to allow for training on a different position within the company, and other criteria into which we fit (won't tip our hand by listing them all here).
The nay sayers are wrong this time. Let their hands become arthritic claws for $0.025 CPL if that's what they're willing to settle for; I'm no longer willing to let them set the standard for the rest of us, settling for slave labor wages, and for far less than is fair and legal.
BTW, how many of you work for companies who outsource offshore, but the medical facility clients are not aware that offshore is a part of the process?
How many medical facilities, clinics, and individual physicians are actually aware of the laughable level of quality which returns to US QA from offshore, and must be filtered through 2-tier U.S. QA in order to be edited to medically and legally acceptable?
...and how many of you have found gaping HIPAA violations by the companies for whom you work?
We're interested in hearing from you regarding this. If you are hesitant to post answers here, you can send an anonymous email with your answers.
