Silent Type - having to pay up front to train in Jersey! - rm

Posted: Jul 08, 2011

Thanks for letting me know about having to pay up front to train in Jersey! I wouldn't even do that if we had the money when you don't know how awful of an account you may get or horrible platform. I was just getting ready to test. Thanks for the info!

worth it - stmt

Training was helpful. Accounts are wonderful. Pay makes me happy. Lots of work.

We dont have the money. Had to borrow from family - rm

just to fly up for my stepdaughter's graduation just to give you an idea which is why I need to work :-(

My only problem was that air fare and hotel were going to be $800 sm - Colorado MT

and the only reimburse you up to $500, plus the recruiter would give me no indication of what the pay scale was or anything. I may have missed out on a great chance, but $800 (for me) is a lot to gamble on an unknown.

I think it's a disgrace... - that this place would require

to come from who knows where to "train" and then not even give you a clue as to what the pay is going to be. No wonder they have ads going all the time.

do they supply the computer? How much a line you getting paid? - want to know

It was definitely worth the trip for me. Yes, they supply the computer and pay is by the page, not line. That was the one thing that almost kept me from taking the offer because I had always been paid hourly (back in the good old days) or by the line. No company is perfect but this one is a great fit for me.

Are you on the account that has OP notes and if so, is it mostly OPs?

I believe there may be a few accounts that include op notes, so I guess it would depend on what account(s) you were hired to work on. Sorry I can't be more helpful in answering your question.
How much do you make on average per page? I would - rm

like to compare. I just opened up a test op I did and came up with 39 lines for the first page. Being an op though you are typing more but mainly in paragraph form so 65 cpl may not be that good. So at 8.5 cents this paid $3.32 cpl inc spaces. If it is mainly an op account are you averaging a similar amount? I am very curious to know.
What I am trying to say I guess is I would compare - rm

the same two pages based on pay per page and pay 65 cpl inc. spaces and if it's more great. If not then it wouldn't make sense for me. If I had to produce more than my typical 40 reports a day to make my $135, (1600) line goal in other words.

Silent Type?
Sep 26, 2011

Can anyone give me info on Silent Type, either on the board or by e-mail? Would like to know about steady work flow, general idea about line rates, if they provide equipment, straight typing versus VR, weekends required, and do they still require you to train on site at your own expense and if so when is that reimbursed?  Any current info would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance. ...

Silent Type Work
May 24, 2012

I have been with Silent Type for a year now.  I enjoy the fact we work M-F schedule and no weekends.  I also enjoy the fact that we have good QA.  I also enjoy the fact we get vacation and bonuses.  I also enjoy the fact we are offered health insurance and 401-K.  Girls don't forget these perks when you are complaining about the work being light.  I have been in this field for over 35 years and there is always the concept of too much work or no work in the field of transcription.  Do ...
