Silent Type 2-day training? - jan2

Posted: May 12, 2011

Has anyone actually traveled to New Jersey to do the 2-day training?

40+ viewed and no responses. I guess the answer is NO, understandably. Their MTs must all live in NJ!

Apparently they also pay by dictation - minute - not good for MT

I looked into Silent Type before and found out they pay by dictation minute, plus the training where you have to go to New Jersey at your own expense. Both of these things would turn away a lot of MTs. Of course, they don't mention that in their ad, because not many would apply.

Apparenty they also pay by dictation minute - Jan2

Thank you. I have now crossed them off my L O N G list. This is getting very depressing!
They used to reimburse you - meme

If I remember correctly when I interviewed with them they did reimburse the employee after a certain amount of time for the trip/training. They didn't want to pay someone to come out to New Jersey to train for them to turn around and quit I guess. I'm sure the recruiter would answer your questions.
They reimburse after 6 months - OP

but what MT these days can afford the money up front with what all of these MTSOs are paying.
not so sure about asking questions - confused

I'm not too sure you can ask the recruiter questions. I got an e-mail a couple days ago about testing and I agreed to test but first I wanted to know what is the pay, what is the volume of work, and do they pay for the flight there. I never got a response.

They do NOT pay by the minute, FYI - sm - Jill

They pay per page and have some formulation based on however many pages you do you get a certain amount of $$ - the more pages you do, the more $$ per page you get.

I did NOT work for them but interviewed with the owner. I would NEVER work for them and that's all I'll say. To each their own but I knew it was not the place for me.
Sorry, I stand corrected. I do remember - that they way they

paid was not of benefit to the MT, at all.

I traveled to NJ for training but it was about 7 years ago. It is all legit. They take care of you while you are there and you train in their office. However, I did not stay with the company longer than 2 weeks. Their uber-QA was ridiculous. Dinged for commas, semicolons, that versus which.

I figure if their platform is so complicated you have to leave the state to learn it in person, I don't want to learn it. Also, when I was looking into this about 3 years ago, they paid UP TO $500 (something like that) for expenses, which if you are needing airfare, would not cover diddly. There's also hotel and food at your own expense.

They did provide transportation from the airpot to the hotel, and from the hotel to the training site, and back to the airport after the training.

I did go for the training a couple of years ago, was reimbursed $500, and love it there. I know I will be bomarded with questions, but all I am going to say is that Silent Type is the best kept secret out there.

Thanks for the positive feedback! Is it true that they do not reply to questions? I also was invited to test, but I asked a couple questions and have not heard back either. With the time and energy it takes to test for a company, I expect 2 or 3 questions to be answered up-front. Not too much to ask?

It is too much to ask - sm - Jill

You need to wait forever for the owner to take time to answer any questions. Only she can answer anything. Hope you have time and patience.

Yes, actually went there for training. The training was pretty basic, just covered most of the account specifics. However, the account I was assigned had a ton of specifics that did not always apply and even ST editors did not always agree on the correct answers. They promised up to $500 reimbursment for travel after six months but I did not make it six months. They pay BY REPORT and you are required to produce a certain amount of reports per day - starting from day one. They did say there were a lot of normals/macros that would get pulled in and you get credit for but in the long run it did not pencil out. They said no one is allowed to return any jobs, once you download you must do it unless you call in and ask permission to return the job. I found I was getting some of the worse dictators ever and obviously run-back reports that no one else wanted to do. Would NOT recommend this company to even a seasoned MT.

Why Silent Type Requires An In-house Training?
Jun 20, 2010

Does anybody know why Silent Type requires an in-house training?  Is the platform so complicated that it can't be done through a Webinar or even just on the phone?  I've worked for a few places over the years, and there was nothing that couldn't be handled in a phone call with, at most, some graphics in a Go To Meeting type deal.  I just find it curious and makes me worry, like--if the platform is that cumbersome and complicated, do I want to work for them? Even when I w ...

Can anyone give me info on Silent Type, either on the board or by e-mail? Would like to know about steady work flow, general idea about line rates, if they provide equipment, straight typing versus VR, weekends required, and do they still require you to train on site at your own expense and if so when is that reimbursed?  Any current info would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks in advance. ...

I have been with Silent Type for a year now.  I enjoy the fact we work M-F schedule and no weekends.  I also enjoy the fact that we have good QA.  I also enjoy the fact we get vacation and bonuses.  I also enjoy the fact we are offered health insurance and 401-K.  Girls don't forget these perks when you are complaining about the work being light.  I have been in this field for over 35 years and there is always the concept of too much work or no work in the field of transcription.  Do ...
