ShurCan says they are "very picky," yet they offer a whopping 5-7 cpl. nm - no thanks

7 cpl for easy family practice clinic work is - actually pretty good. (sm)

Some of these nationals want you to perform miracles on their ESL dictators on a bulky platform with many corrections for 3 cpl, and they want you to transcribe demographics that are nonpaid, look up physicians that is nonpaid, so actually a 7 cpl straight typing family practice account from one area of the country would be rather nice if you ask me.

depends, I'm doing clinic work and have all kinds of unpaid crap to do - for that, sm

and the clinic work isn't always easy peasy either. It is for IC also. I have over 20 years in as an MT and would much rather do acute care, but this was the only gig I could find with work, but the amount of extras that have to be done in this clinic work that is not paid for is ridiculous, so at 7 cpl for clinic work, I wouldn't be saying that is actually pretty good and there are ESLs doing their own thing in the clinics too you know.

They're picky...but have a typo in their ad! LOL!!! - MTSearching

Gotta love it!

my thoughts - on this one

[ In Reply To ..]
The ad mentions testing 4 or 5 times, testing to be done immediately on an FTP site. The email address is generic. I smell a fish, as in send a bunch of applicants to a "test" site and get your work done for free. Just my 2c.

I agree, just because it is clinic work doesn't mean it is easy - pay too low IMO, sm

That's some statement from the other person about easy clinic work, 1 region of the country. That's an acute care MT with a massive ego if you ask me. Guess what, it takes as much work to do clinic work as it does acute care. I have over 80 physicians, PAs, residents, etc and some are ESLs in the clinic I type for, so to just assume all clinic work is only worth 5-7 cpl is outrageous. MT work is MT work, I don't care what it is you're putting on the paper or how you are putting it on the paper. It all needs to be compensated at a rate that people can actually pay their bills. There is a lot to do in clinic work that goes unpaid also, especially the cc that are involved with these clinics and letters that have to be sent out and some of that stuff, you never see a penny for.

I personally think acute care is an easier way to make money than clinic - all the hoops and rings you gotta, sm

[ In Reply To ..]
jump through to make a report happen in clinic work is sometimes amazing to me. Whereas acute care, I would select my patient, my work type and get cracking, usually the same ole same ole and lots and lots of shortcuts for those. Clinic work not so much on the shortcuts (although I have gotten clever and created a ton of shortcuts I never used for acute care). Lots of times these clinic notes are typed verbatim, so no expansion of a lot of abbreviations you would be benefitting the character counts from.

Actually you are very wrong. - I am the poster the poster (sm)

[ In Reply To ..]
you are referring to, and I do not have a large ego, nor am I an acute care MT. I've been doing clinic work and radiology and some OP notes for over 25 years, and I'm here to tell you that 7 cpl for straight typing for a family practice physician can be very fruitful in your labor. Have you looked at what these nationals are offering for acute care? I guess not, since you think you know it all and even know me, my ego, my experience, and all that but it's all your guesswork.

Guess what? I know what it takes to do clinic work, and I also know what the offers are for acute care with tons of dictators and account specs. So, I base my opinion on that, and I'm not assuming anything about anyone, unlike your post.

Have a great day!

The ad says 5-7 ... no guarantee you get 7 cpl, though. sm - no thanks

I'm not trashing you, clinic MTs, acute care MTs, or anyone else. I just thought it was funny that they say they are picky, so I assume they want someone great, and yet offer that kind of salary.

Picky Companies
Feb 01, 2012

I wonder if anyone else has noticed the "hoops you have to jump through" to not only get a job as an MT but to keep the job once you are fortunate to find one.  I have been an MT now for 12 years and am finding it quite frustrating what companies expect from their MTs as far as the "finished product" goes.  It used to be an error-free report was a report that had the correct terminology, lab values, medications, and dosages, not to mention appropriate use of commas, etc., that did ...

Just Curious About Our Nit-picky
Feb 27, 2015

I do a lot of genetics reports and often have to list the 23 genes tested for in breast cancer patients as well as terms regarding 22q11.2 duplication, etc. Do you suppose if I had one of these down incorrectly that our ESL QAs would notice, or can they only pick out those little grammar/hearing issues. I really do not believe the terms that I (with 35 yrs experience) have to research are terms which our ESL QAs are familiar with.  Again, this 99.5% quality BS from MM is just that.   ...

Offered Position With MModal Paying A Whopping
Oct 19, 2012

4 cpl editing; however, 99.5% will be Voice Recognition I was told. Then she went on to say you guys average anywhere from 287 to 300 LPH with Voice Wreck. When she got into the part about they pay for up to 2 consecutive spaces, and if you send more than 5% to QA, I sort of zoned out. Told her I will give her my decision once I think about it over the weekend. Not. Whew it was depressing just listening to all of their demands. ...

Non-MT Job Offer
Mar 29, 2013

...Okay, I'm not here to start a fight about union vs non-union, but I was just offered a non-MT job at a hospital that has a union, and I am anti-union.  When she told me that it was a union position, my jaw dropped.  She must have seen the look on my face, because she told me that since this is Florida, we don't HAVE to join the union or pay dues or anything like that.  My face brightened up right away. SO, if you are not pro-union be SURE to ask if the state you live ...

GOT A BETTER OFFER FROM WAL-MART
Feb 18, 2010

Well after being in this business for almost 20 years, I have decided it's time to hang up the keyboard,  as a single person I can no longer support myself as a medical transcriptionist.  This is not even a good part-time job anymore.  I have worked for more companies than I cared to admit, suffered through intolerable divas as team leads, gestapo QA, constant nip picking on where a comma goes, or a verb, and had my cpl reduced from what started out at 13 cpl to 0.0350 cpl.&n ...

Taking More Than 1 Offer
Mar 15, 2010

I have 2 job offers from 2 different companies, but both of these companies are fairly large and have multiple posts with complaints that there is just not enough work for everyone. Would it be possible to take both offers, on the chance that if one doesn't have work the other will? I might be kinda screwed if they both have a lot of work, but it might be worth it to see how both will work out without closing any doors. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to run 2 companies differen ...

Offer From Medquist
Mar 19, 2010

Wow.  I was just offered a job by MQ.  I politely asked if the 'rumors' were true about being docked for sending reports to QA.  I was informed that if you are supposed to do 6,000 lines a week and 300 lines total come to QA, then yes you would be docked 3 cents per line.  If you are part-time with 4,000 line a week and 200 lines total came to QA, then you would be docked.  I politely said that I would have to decline.  BUT, if you feel that even QA canno ...

Job Offer From Transolutions
Jun 09, 2010

I have a job offer from Transolutions, but I have a couple of questions.   I use Instant Text and I need to know if their platform is compatible with it.  This would definitely be a dealbreaker for me.   The opinions of the company I read on this board were not very favorable -- slow speech rec program,  too much speech rec, etc.  But all the opinions were at least 2 years old.  Is there any more current information out there?   The pay scale is very enticing, but if the ...

Need Advice On Job Offer
Jun 24, 2010

I'm considering an offer from a national company of around 8.75 cents straight typing and around 5.5 for VR. This would be for a full-time position and I have over 10 years experience (but none with VR).  I'm currently on unemployment earning around $1500 a month. My normal production of straight typing is around 150-200 lph.  With this info., should it be a problem to earn more than what I'm currently making on unemployment? I'm afraid to make the change as once I ...

Job Offer For Probity
