MQ offer me a job last week... - anon

Posted: Jun 14, 2011

MQ offered me a full-time position last week, after all the testing, but after reading this board, with all the firings and lawsuit, and outsourcing, I don't know if I want to work for them! Is there any reason not to work for them? I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

Take the job if you need a job - Renee Henderson

MQ and the whole MT industry has been in a state of upheaval for a lot of years. Our pay plummeted for years, but I think that's changing now. They are cleaning house by firing burnt out MTs. I'm hoping the new MTs will be regarded with a clean slate mindset. I understand the new hires are being hired in at higher pay than many long-term employees are presently working for. Medquist is not a good fit for every employee, but what company is? Also the complaints on this message board are not as many nor as furious. It could be a sign that the parting of the ways between Medquist and older disgruntled employees only means a fresh start and better times for all.

re: Renee Henderson - peeved

I don't think that you are in any position to be giving out job advice here! You admittedly lost your job due to your own short comings. You admit you didn't follow your schedule or meet production.

Anyone's pay would plummet if they didn't do their work! They are not firing long-term MTs. I am one! i got a call and an e-mail yesterday telling me "good job! you are exceeding required production and are at required accuracy level".

They are letting people go who aren't in compliance! PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I talked to my CCM after reading the firing thread below.

Anywhere else would also: If you worked at a fast food resturant and didn't do your job, you'd be fired. If you worked at a school and didn't do your job, you'd be fired... That's all. I'm a little miffed here 'cause I see you trolling up and down playing both sides of the field but you already told everyone you didn't follow your schedule, you didn't meet production... Then you say here it's a horrible company.

I hope you get a good job that makes you happy, but don't haunt the people here looking for advise on MQ and make it out to seem as if THIS company is at fault for your own shortcomings. -END-

yeah, thatstrue. Let the newbies and new recruits decide for themself - noob MQMT 7 months

A lot come, like it and stay. Just as many come in, don't like it and leave. Everyone is different. It is a fact tho, if you don't do what is required of you, of course you'll lose your job.

Not meeting production - Not always our fault

[ In Reply To ..]
How is it that a long-term employee goes down the hill? Is it Always their fault for not being motivated? I think not. MQ is renowned for the unethical ways they treat their employees. They lower our salaries and make changes that only after we try them out do we find they don't really benefit us. If they listened to us, they would not make those changes to begin with, but MQ listens more to their profits.

Also, maybe "Peeved" has not yet been targeted, but I have been. I've gotten jobs reserved for me I've been told on this blog that it's not because I'm such a great transcriptionist, but because I never abandon a job? Like an idiot I'll do the job and sent it in to QA all holey and risk having sent too many jobs to QA. There should never been too many jobs sent to QA, but MQ changed things and they now DROP OUT SALARIES because of it. Is that fair? Doesn't that cause resentment? Even the most seasoned MT won't be able to hear some words, but they should never be punished for it. Psychologically, that does cause resentment, but we are asked to keep out chin up.

Why is it that so many people get NJA and so many don't? Could it simply be the states they live in that insist that MQ pays a high minimum wage when the MT is out of work? Why do you think you have to add what state you are in when you fill out a QCare ticket for NJA? They look the other way if you are not in a high-paying state because it doesn't serve THEM to give you work. How is that supposed to feel?Or do we just suffer the blows and keep our chins up?

There's a thread below to show just how many times us blue-collar workers have needed to weather the storm. What do you think that does to motivation to get the job done? Don't you think it can possibly cause resentment, or are you so very financially iron-clad financially and independent that it does not affect you? My sympathy goes out to Renee as I've seen my own motivation to do a good job diminish in response to MQ's lack of sympathy.

It was her own fault.
In the case of Renee - Renee Henderson
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, it was my fault. I resolved not to have a stroke trying to reach an impossible line count with the material I dealt with. I took my time and had very good accuracy. I made a conscious decision to do so. I knew my production was lowered by doing so.
pffffft! - whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
Pffft! "yes I made the conscious decision to get myself fired"...
150 lines per hour ASR is only $6- she should be fired - NJA Queen
[ In Reply To ..]
Oh wait, she was only PT, so 100 lph is only $4 and OMG Medquist asked her to do 120 lph which is what $4.80 an hour, still costing Medquist more money to keep her than what she produces. Not to mention she didn't work her schedule and probably stole work from other MTs. Sorry, no pity party here. Good ridance. I will take her work

It's too bad that "doing your job" isn't something - that is required of Management! (nm)

I don't think MQ is horrible - Renee Henderson

[ In Reply To ..]
I only said it is not a good fit for everyone. No employer is. I just stayed at the party too long and burnt myself out adjusting to industry changes. I am sorry if my remarks caused you or anyone else any distress. Enjoy your job and your life. That is what I'm going to do.

What is production like at MedQuist? - deniseinva

I am wondering exactly what qualifies as full-time at MQ. Do you have to meet so many lines per pay period or is it by gross income? I look forward to your responses.

I don't work for MQ but - wimt

I read the board quite a bit. I think the question to ask is: "Is there any reason WHY TO WORK for MQ?" There is so much negative talk about them I would be really nervous to take a job with them, but that is just IMO. It seems like there are plenty of reasons why NOT to work for them, but maybe you'll get some positive feedback as to why you should work for them. Not everybody has the same experience with every company. Good Luck.

True. Does anyone have any good reasons... - anon

to work for MedQuist? I have a job now, the pay sucks but that goes with the territory, so does anyone have anything positive to say that might help me decide?
Thank you!

I work for MQ - putting on the fireproof suit

[ In Reply To ..]
I have worked with MQ for 11 years now. I get steady pay, more than minimum wage. I have a flexible schedule that suits me. I have plenty of time to spend with my husband. I can take my work with me anywhere I go if I so chose. I get PTO.

I don't get their insurance, it's too expensive, but have insurance through DH work. I don't make billions, but I put aside money for retirement. I make enough to pay my bills, buy food and a teeny bit extra for fun.

I have a good work support team, QA, CCM and back ups that help me, call me back, communicate with me.

I love my job and this company has been good to me.
Thank you! nfm. - anon

Same for me, no complaints here - No problems working for MQ
[ In Reply To ..]
I have the same scenario and love my accounts. After working for a few other companies, MQ is the best fit for my needs and not having any trouble making over minimum wage, working my schedule, and good quality scores. I realize not everyone is in the same situation depending on what area they are in, but not everyone is unhappy at MQ.

HAPPY MT WEEK - Have A Great Week
May 17, 2010

To all you wonderful MTs working and slaving your lives away, Happy MT Week.  I appreciate you.  I appreciate your kindness when I have a rant or a rave, when I'm at my wits end with the constant changing around of clients, client profiles and the never ending dings being thrown at me. I appreciate knowing that I am not alone in this struggle. It is because of all of you, and only you MTs on this board that I manage to stay in this game.  We are treated as less than second class citiz ...

At 99.4% This Week, Congratulated That I Improved Over Last Week.
Feb 13, 2015

Good grief. I did not change the way I edit. It so depends on how many commas they think you should have. Yes, I made an unusual (for me) mistake last week, but the rest of passing an audit is dumb luck of whether you get a realistic auditor or Ms English wannabe. Everybody must be under pressure because of the cesspool as I see a lot of mistakes when I look up past reports to help with these mush mouths and accents. The time czar wants schedule changes, but I see no problems with turna ...

Non-MT Job Offer
Mar 29, 2013

...Okay, I'm not here to start a fight about union vs non-union, but I was just offered a non-MT job at a hospital that has a union, and I am anti-union.  When she told me that it was a union position, my jaw dropped.  She must have seen the look on my face, because she told me that since this is Florida, we don't HAVE to join the union or pay dues or anything like that.  My face brightened up right away. SO, if you are not pro-union be SURE to ask if the state you live ...

GOT A BETTER OFFER FROM WAL-MART
Feb 18, 2010

Well after being in this business for almost 20 years, I have decided it's time to hang up the keyboard,  as a single person I can no longer support myself as a medical transcriptionist.  This is not even a good part-time job anymore.  I have worked for more companies than I cared to admit, suffered through intolerable divas as team leads, gestapo QA, constant nip picking on where a comma goes, or a verb, and had my cpl reduced from what started out at 13 cpl to 0.0350 cpl.&n ...

Taking More Than 1 Offer
Mar 15, 2010

I have 2 job offers from 2 different companies, but both of these companies are fairly large and have multiple posts with complaints that there is just not enough work for everyone. Would it be possible to take both offers, on the chance that if one doesn't have work the other will? I might be kinda screwed if they both have a lot of work, but it might be worth it to see how both will work out without closing any doors. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to run 2 companies differen ...

Offer From Medquist
Mar 19, 2010

Wow.  I was just offered a job by MQ.  I politely asked if the 'rumors' were true about being docked for sending reports to QA.  I was informed that if you are supposed to do 6,000 lines a week and 300 lines total come to QA, then yes you would be docked 3 cents per line.  If you are part-time with 4,000 line a week and 200 lines total came to QA, then you would be docked.  I politely said that I would have to decline.  BUT, if you feel that even QA canno ...

Job Offer From Transolutions
Jun 09, 2010

I have a job offer from Transolutions, but I have a couple of questions.   I use Instant Text and I need to know if their platform is compatible with it.  This would definitely be a dealbreaker for me.   The opinions of the company I read on this board were not very favorable -- slow speech rec program,  too much speech rec, etc.  But all the opinions were at least 2 years old.  Is there any more current information out there?   The pay scale is very enticing, but if the ...

Need Advice On Job Offer
Jun 24, 2010

I'm considering an offer from a national company of around 8.75 cents straight typing and around 5.5 for VR. This would be for a full-time position and I have over 10 years experience (but none with VR).  I'm currently on unemployment earning around $1500 a month. My normal production of straight typing is around 150-200 lph.  With this info., should it be a problem to earn more than what I'm currently making on unemployment? I'm afraid to make the change as once I ...
