One-on-One Information Services - why the dislikes

Posted: Feb 26, 2014

Their ad is verbatim an ad I applied to Smart Doc for (and am still waiting to start for a month now).  I'm wondering if they are doing the same accounts since the specifications are not necessarily the usual job ads.

Has anyone worked for them to know what their story is?

Their pay is too low as an IC - sm

Only 7.5 cents per line as an IC?! Plus, you have to pay $100 for the software?! That is ridiculous to me.

$100 for software - nn

I work at SmartDoc. The "$100 for software," is for a "dongle." Which SmartDoc, deducted out of my paychecks. This will allow me to utilize the software from ANY computer that has it installed and if I get a new computer, the software license is good for that as well -- in other words, for a lifetime. So, yes, at first it is an expense, but a necessary one since that is the way Bytescribe operates. I for one would much rather pay $100 ONCE, than have to pay an amount each time something happened and I would possibly have to replace a computer.

As far as the other company is concerned, I have no clue and I do not believe this person is affiliated with SD.

are you working on the new hem/onc acct - still waiting

No I'm not another 2 accounts. Not sure what is going on with that; but I do know they will staff that account from "within" before hiring from the outside, because they don't over staff like many companies.

100 bucks for a Dongle.... I so think not! 40 bucks max - sogladnottobeathomeMT!

Does that mean that you won't shell out $100 on - nn
[ In Reply To ..]
If it means a job, then yes, I will pay it. Also as mentioned previously, the cost CAN be deducted out of your first couple of checks. You can only use the software free for 14 days and then it has to be purchased and since you are IC, then it is not the company's responsibility. No different that getting a good keyboard, super headphones or a foot pedal.

Regarding SmartDoc requiring $100 for "software." The problem with Express Scribe, the free transcription foot pedal software, is that it leaves the voice file on your computer until you erase it. This is not acceptable to our company. We require the use of Bytescribe foot pedal software because it erases all traces of the voice file after the report is released, and also it plays all of the myriad of voice files that our clients use. We don't sell it, but we will purchase the software and the dongle for you and take it out of two paychecks. I believe the software is one price and the dongle and foot pedals are separate. They add up to about $100. We don't care where you get it, and the reason we require Bytescribe is for security and because it plays files that other software doesn't. You may call me or e-mail at 1.888.SmartDoc or Greg@SmartDoc.com if you have any questions about our company. (Greg Caminiti, President, SmartDoc, Inc., Incorporated 1997)

Where was SmartDoc ad? (sm) - Rose

If One-on-One's ad is verbatim one posted by SmartDoc, that is really concerning as for a possible scam I searched but can't find any ads by SmartDoc. Could you tell me where I can find it, or do you have a copy of it?

Very difficult to get any info on One-on-One Information Services Inc and they say they have been in business since 1997. I did find 3 addresses for them in Tallahassee, offices and homes. I'm also surprised they have to advertise on MR Jobs on 2/17 and again here on 2/27. Didn't they get enough applicants from one ad? Strange.

I did apply for One-on-One. I got a call from a woman tell me that they were hiring for Hem/Onc and wanted to know my background. I told her what I was looking for volume wise, and she said "I do not know what you mean by how many lines you are looking to do a day." I thought that was a little fishy other than the fact that the company sounds more like a data processing company and not an MTSO. She sent me three voice files and told me that they were "practice files" for the doctor I would be assigned to and to type them over the weekend and return to their FTP site. I typed them and returned them and did not hear anything back from her. The middle of the following week I called her and she said her "proofreader" would get back to her and she would get in touch with me. I finally got an E-mail 2 days later stating that I did not do very well with the doctor and would I like to try another doctor (about 20 minutes worth of work). I felt that things did not add up and I told her I was no longer interested.

Long story short, the whole thing sounded fishy, and I have heard stories about people posing as companies looking to hire MTs only to have them to "test" as a means of catching up on their backlog for free. There was no mention of testing at all to begin with.

I currently work for SmartDoc. I found it very odd, when SmartDoc posted an ad for the hem-onc account (this was back in December or January, I believe) and a few days later, an almost VERBATIM ad for One-On-One was posted. The SmartDoc offices are also located in FL, but in the Tampa area. Not sure about anyone else, but when I was hired by SmartDoc, I was not required to do any kind of testing. From the sounds of it, this other company sounds extremely fishy and SmartDoc will be made aware of it.

Where was the SmartDoc ad - Vicki

[ In Reply To ..]
The SmartDoc ad I placed was not renewed due to an overwhelming response.

We are not associated with this One-on-One Information Services, who literally is bordering on plagiarism of my ad.

Thank you to all that responded.

Thanks so much. It was sounding very fishy (sm) - Rose

I saw their ad on the Indeed site which was very long. One sentence I thought was strange was stating not to apply if you will not use your hot keys. I looked up their ads and they do MT, data processing, and "office work". The most recent address comes back to a house in Tallahassee, but two weeks ago it was a different address that came back to an office suite in Tallahassee. I guess we have to question every ad now. I almost called SmartDoc to see if they knew anything about this One-on-One.

That was mentioned by OTS (One Transcription Service) - the ad below One-on-One Information Services by skj on the Job Seeker's Board. Needless to say, it's becoming more and more hard to trust in any job ads placed these days!

One-on-One Information Services--A reply from the CEO - skj

My name is Steven Jones, President of One-On-One Information Services, Inc. and I'm wondering why the dislikes too. All of the information in our ads are factual and though we may have similar needs to other Hem/Onc practices we work exclusively with the two Cancer Centers for whom we advertise. We are a small family-owned company and have been in business since the early '90s. Although we are headquartered in Tallahassee we reside in South Georgia where my wife runs a large Gastroenterology practice. One-On-One is extremely transparent in the manner we advertise and do business and I would be happy to personally discuss any concerns any legitimate applicants might have with us. I can be contacted at sjones@10n1information.com and can reply by email or phone call. Thank you.
