Good places to work from home? - Kerri0828

Posted: Jan 23, 2012

I am currently in the middle of applying for MedQuest. I am seeing bad things about it on here. I just graduated college with my associates degree in Medical Transcription, so where would be a few good places to apply to, to work from home??

Its MedQuist, not Quest - just so you know

Try Transcend.

Honestly, until you can get some experience behind - your belt, I would pretty

accept any job offer at 7 cpl or more that I was offered. I worked for Focus (now Nuance) first as they would hire with little experience. I'm not sure if it is still that way or not.

Stay away from Precyse. - sm

If you're not proficient in labs, meds, and ESLs, this is not the place for you.  They've begun cracking down on labs/meds especially hard since a patient died because an MT put a wrong med, and they're complaining/cracking on the number of blanks sent to QA and blanks to the clients.  The sound files in most instances have gotten really bad across the board, thus the increase in blanks, but it's the MT who gets blamed.

This is a good company to work for, the platform rocks, ASR is becoming profitable, PTO works like a bank account (you choose how much $$ you want use), insurance prices went down for me for the first time in 9 years, but be forewarned - if you come here, the account they're hiring for has ridiculous specs, rules and regulations.  QA is constantly sending out complaints from the client, this is wrong, that is wrong, do this, do that, remember this, remember that, get it right, blah blah.  Even some of the people who came with the account have left, it's that bad.  They're desperate for people on the account and desperation breeds deception.

Good luck wherever you end up!

Well dang. That is the company that was supposed - sm

to call me last Friday to work for them. I guess it was for the best that I never heard from them.

Unasked for advice: Please do not rely on others' opinions. One woman's meat may be another woman's poison and vice versa. I once worked for company that everyone else hated. I made big bucks and was happy. Bottom line: THINK FOR YOURSELF. Good luck to you. :)
Awesome advice..asked for or not:) I appreciate it!s - sm

I heard from a recruiter last Thursday asking when a good time to call would be. I told them any time all day Friday as Thursday I had appointments, but I have yet to hear back:(

Like I said in my reply, it IS a good company. - sm

And come on in, just take off the rose-colored glasses first.  It's not heaven but it's a lot better than some things I see here!

I Agree. Avoid Precyse - Wish I Could Quit

[ In Reply To ..]
Precyse USED to be a good place to work. Now it's nitpicking about everything. They monitor exactly how many "system hours" you put in, and woe be onto you if you're a minute short. Plus the funny thing is they always show less system hours than I KNOW I worked. I write all my times down, every damned bathroom break, every damned 2 minutes it takes for me to put another log on the fire... But what to do about telling them they're screwing me on my time? They'd only tell me their system can't be wrong. You must make at least 240 LPH plus meet their QA expectations. We are now getting jobs back that we sent to QA with how long it took QA to fill in our blanks and how many of our blanks they filled. This is not helpful but only serves to make us feel even more like Big Brother is breathing down our necks and like we're completely incompetent or they wouldn't have had to bother with having to fill in those blanks (believe me I usually only have to send them something when the report is so bad that even the VR/SR software can't do the report). The sound quality is atrocious. The best dictators/jobs go to our India coworkers. I recently was told I had to take on this other account that has a Master File that is completely absurd...I printed it out and it was 40 pages. This was supposed to be my "secondary account" only if I ran out of work on my primary. Well, guess what, I spend 90% of my time at this crappy secondary account even if they're screaming that they have late work in my primary. Consequently I've taken a bit hit in my paycheck of over $5 an hour less due to the complexity of this new account. Not to mention that we had a perfectly wonderful team leader for many of the years I've been there and she retired last year and we ended up with a complete ditz of a nasty airheaded "boss." I loathe working for the place and as soon as I can find a company that accepts the type of internet connection I have I will leave. It can't be soon enough for me! So, yes, as far as getting a job there I guess if any of the above sounds good to you I'd say by all means go for it!!! Whew! I guess I vented a little bit there! I feel so much better!

Your college placement office should be of some help - Happy MT Robin

Your college placement office should have some ideas and/or contacts of companies who are willing to hire people who don't have any practical experience yet.

Nuance does hire people with good transcription educations. Be very prepared to not make much your first year no matter who you go to work for, though.

2014 - Not A Good Year For This MT â But I Found A Good Fit (finally)
Jan 12, 2015

Rarely do I start discussion on mtstars - however, 2014 was a particularly challenging year for myself - an experienced MT/Editor (15+ years). However, I realize that many other MTs may be in the same position, i.e., having many years devoted to working at the Big MTSOs including âthe M,â and âthe Nâ and (now to be included) âthe Tâ following close behind in total numbers of MT/Editors on staff. (Hint: Sure most of you know the M, the N and the T - and the names have been int ...

Good Friday; Good Bye Spheris
Apr 02, 2010

Well Good Friday to me.  I left Spheris.  It is indeed the best Friday for me in a very long time.  I've had it with their lousy platform, Mafia QA (they try their best to kill your spirit), mandatory this, mandatory that, do this, don't do that, change this, don't change that; no, don't change this, don't change that, and on and on and on, and now their bankruptcy.  No PTO for the next 4 months to keep the clients satisfied during ...

I just did a report that outlined, in great detail, something that my dad went through several years ago.  He died last year and I guess with father's day coming up I am just missing him a lot.  I think that was the hardest report I have ever done!  I stopped in the middle of it and just lifted that patient up in prayer and asked that his family not have to go through what mine did.  I miss my dad!!!! I had to stop working a few minutes early because I just can't st ...

At Home MTs -
Feb 09, 2012

What do your QA people actually do?  I have two jobs, as I've said before.  Both outsource pieces of their work and at both I wonder just what it is that the QA people do?  At both I really wonder how the MT even got their job at all but I really wonder what the QA people do! At the hospital, we send the op reports out, probably 60 a day.  They get done by a company owned by the former Q but they claim they're done in America.  Every day we come in to 50 of t ...

Something We Workers-at-home Need To Consider...
Jan 21, 2010

when I started telecommuting full time.It finally penetrated my consciousness a couple of weeks ago that every year, when it came time to renew my auto insurance policy, I used to get a call from a local agent, and we'd go over the policy, making sure there were no changes. One of the questions was always how many miles did I drive to and from work each day, along with the current odometer reading, and the estimated number of miles driven each year.I haven't gotten one of those calls i ...

What I Don't Like About Working At Home Right
Mar 02, 2010

now is that I would really love to tell somebody off!! Yes, I know that may sound childish, but this company has put my stress level through the roof, my blood pressure through the roof, and their BS has me so pissed off, if I were in an office where they were I would find great satisfaction in letting them have it verbally, not in writing.  Yes, I would be fired on the spot, but it would be so worth it.  It's just not the same when they don't have to face someone in person.& ...

Working At Home
Mar 09, 2010

Everyone says "I would love to work from home".  Working from home has been having negative effects on me.  I've been doing this for 12 years.  I never used to have anxiety or depression.  Now, I do.  This job is so isolating.  I'm sick and tired of staying home in my PJs.  I try to get out of the house as much as possible, but little trips to the grocery store is not cutting it.  I get depressed staying home all the time.  I lack a social l ...

Home Vs Hospital
Nov 01, 2010

Was laid off in April.  Have a couple offers from transcription companies, and one from a clinic which is part of a huge school/hospital system in our area, (which actually is through a temp agency).  There are only 2 full-time NP's and a handlful of part-time NP's.  The hospital job is a 45-minute drive, 1-way, in light traffic.  Pay to start is $13, but if this temp goes to permanent, potential is much greater.  The clinic is open M-F, 8-4, closed holidays.&n ...
