OK..So a doctor dictates something, usually it is initials for something like I just had OU tele unit,,what the heck is that?? So me I go searching because I always like to verify things I know I heard them say but personally have never heard of it..That goes for everything drug names, conditions, etc. Should I just be typing exactly what they say and to heck with it if it is wrong? Kind of like one boss from an old company said garbage in garbage out?? Im a perfectionist but do I need to draw the line in the sand, cause it is slowing me down a lot...

2) If you cannot parse verbal abbreviations within the context of the discipline, you are not doing your job.
3) If you had given us the context, we might have been able to help you out.
4) If you had googled "tele unit" you might have found some references to assist you.
5) If all else fails, certainly you can flag it. Failing that, you and only you are responsible for the garbage that comes out.

[ In Reply To ..]Believe me I check and double check,,ALWAYS!!! its these crazy abbreviations and made up words they use..Wish I could think of some off the top of my head,,but you know the ones it is a real word then they add their own little endings on them to fit what they want to say... I dont type things that I cant verify but there are some things that there is no way to verify and I did check tele and OU tele and telemetry unit...Just trying to see if I am overdoing it...Which is what I always do..And especially with this ASR, because you definitely hear things differently when they come already printed out..

If it is NOT clear -- like you're not sure if he said "D" or "B" or "V" or "T" or "P" -- then you should definitely spend time on the job looking them up to confirm.

[ In Reply To ..]have already developed a good habit of verifying what you are unsure of. Half of being a successful MT is realizing what it is you don't know or should verify if it doesn't sound right.
However, as we are paid on production,don't spend an excessive amount of time verifying things. Do flag it if you just can't figure it out and move on. Hopefully, your QA personnel will provide you with some constructive feedback and you'll have learned something valuable for next time.
You'll need to verify things less and less as you become more familiar and experienced with a broad base of specialties and report types.

I am currently per-diem with a company that requires per-diems to work 2 holidays a year and we have to phone in to beg for work (0.7 cpl) BUT we are not included in any bonuses or the holiday gift card because we are only per-diems. I just can't understand it. For the past 2 weeks my line counts have been slowly dropping below the 1200 daily quota.
