I need work!!! What am I doing wrong????? - unemployed

Why can I not find a job? What am I doing wrong?? I need a job like yesterday? I have been a transcriptionist for 16 odd years, both in-hospital, and at home. I am an extremely hard worker, motivated, etc., etc. I'm dedicated, loyal, aaahhhggg!!!

I'm venting, but also want to know if it is just me, or.....? If anyone has any suggestions, or know of an opening somewhere, please, please tell me. And, of course, I do not own a FOOT PEDAL. The company I WAS with provided everything and that is another problem I have.

It is hard out there. Jobs are much harder to get right now. For some reason these companies make you jump through hoops to get hired, testing, complicated applications, long waits, etc. Not at all easy anymore. All I can say is be patient. Before you know it, you will get a job. I have 25 years of experience doing almost everything -- hospital work, clinic work, all specialties and have had a hard time getting hired. Just be patient and do not take this personal.

Know how to use the functions on the testing site - that thing they have you download to play dictation on.

It takes longer, yes, but you dont have to have a foot pedal to test. With regards to the two jobs I was offered, I accepted them both and quit them both. I was new to the industry at the time and only had experienced working directly for a hospital. I decided to go with the national that my dept was outsourced to.

But keep looking. Put your resume together and just start emailing it to every company that sounds feasible to work for. I must of sent out a ton of resumes and to this day, I still get offers in my email. Just keep pumping out the resumes.

And for future reference, unless the company hounds you for the foot pedal, keep it. I kept mine from one both of the previous companies and now I have 3. If one goes out, I got two others to fall back on.

There is just no getting around it. If you do test without one and then get a position, you are going to have to tell them you need to get a pedal, which could take a few days. If you have, you will be ready to work when the times comes. Good luck. I know it sucks spending money without a job, but sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

I am not sure that having a footpedal is the answer. I have two footpedals, one a universal type and one an Infinity. However, each company I have interviewed with says they have a specific foot pedal they use, which I need to purchase. So already having a foot pedal doesn't matter, unless you just happen to have the one they want.

I am in a similar boat. I am methodically applying to jobs. Out of the 10 places I have applied, I have had one interview and was not hired. I think it is going to be a long process and will take a lot of patience. Good luck to you.

What is it these days about thinking that you can get a job by applying for a small number of openings. Then people complain. You have no idea what a real job search is all about.

Here is the way it has always been in the past:

1. Think of a few places where you might want to go to work.

2. Drive there, hope to find a decent (safe, close) parking spot and walk to the HR office.

3. Look at bulletin board to see if your skills match any that are posted.

4. If no openings match your skills, move on to the next location, which may be clear across town.

5. If you find an opening that match your skills, have HR contact that department to make an appointment for you. Go home and wait.

6. Someone calls to arrange for an in-person interview.

7. You go to the interview, again hoping to find a (safe, close) parking spot. Once my car was destroyed by vandals with baseball bats.

8. The interview ends. They tell you nothing. You go home and wait, while you try to think of other places to apply.

9. You get a positive response from one of the in-person interviews. They want to see you again. You go in, hoping to find a (safe, close) parking space.

10. You are told nothing at the end of the interview. You go home, but you keep looking.

11. Several weeks later you get a call that one of the second interviews went well. They want you to meet with the person who has the authority to do the hiring. You make an appointment to go in again. Even though you've used up lots of time, energy, and gas getting to all these interviews, you don't even think about complaining. You are happy to hear back that you are still being considered.

12. You go in for the final interview. You are hired. You start in three weeks. They pay monthly. That means you still won't have a paycheck for 7 more weeks, but you've got a job!

I am currently per-diem with a company that requires per-diems to work 2 holidays a year and we have to phone in to beg for work (0.7 cpl) BUT we are not included in any bonuses or the holiday gift card because we are only per-diems. I just can't understand it. For the past 2 weeks my line counts have been slowly dropping below the 1200 daily quota. Feeling the need to make up some lines, I crammed the work yesterday, going as fast as I can, still maintaining quality, proof reading each document, etc. I was excited to see how much I did. I've recently been contacted to test with a company and was told what they pay during their training period but not once you are released to send work directly to the client. Upon asking (for a low/high range) I was told I have to test first. I've been this route before only to have wasted my time being offered something like 6 or 7 cpl for an IC position. A few days ago I got back a warning message from my company stating that the doc had keyed in the wrong medical record number, but did say that patient's correct name.
