CMP, BMP stat, and * - Lori

I'm doing an ER and doctor dictates CMP, BMP stat, and (what sounds like card A)?

Wow, hope you're very, very new at this. For the second one, you likely have the middle letter wrong, and it's probably an "N" instead of a "M". If you look up CMP and BMP, you will see that these are not BOTH being done, and the first one is correct, and the second one wrong. Which then leads me to card A as maybe cardiac, and next word enzymes.

The dictator stated it again, except this time he said, "card A and card B." It is very clear. Must be something new, or his own personal take on it.

I've never heard card A and card B. Don't know who you work for, but if there is a chance to be educated by the institution on what this is, that would be the way to go.
I can think of a couple of possibilities. Sometimes institutions have sets of labs that they name themselves, and perhaps this hospital does that. Also, troponins can be tested with actual cards, and maybe that is the terminology applied to serial troponins.
I've been doing this a long, long time, and I always want to understand things like this, but if you don't have any way to find out from the doctor/hospital, just follow the directions you are given.
I know this shouldn't bother me, but I have this doctor (and he has a PA-C under him that does it too) that STAT every file. He's an urgent care doc, so I get that he thinks because the place he works is called "Urgent Care" that everything he does must, therefore, be "urgent." But it's simply not true. Your "urgent" sinus infection which you felt you needed to STAT got pushed in front of several files that your colleagues who actually sent patients to the ER by ...
Normally, with a brain injury patient, I would be extremely careful about pre-medicating the patient with lidocaine and fentanyl and waiting several minutes for this to s/l quit-al-bate and do a careful rapid-sequence intubation with etomidate and a long-acting paralytic agent. My clinical impression in this unfortunate patient is she is in trouble and needs a stat intubation. ...
Any idea why all of my reports are stats? Its weird. Most of my shift is stat reports. When the stats run out, most of the time I get NJA. How is that possible? They are ASR too. I used to get probably 50/50 before the merge. But now that I started getting all of these stats, I'm probably 90/10. ...
Anyone ever notice that everytime the NTS-Stat address comes into your IM list that work gets screwy? I mean, why have this address at all since we never use this person or address for anything? Seems fishy to me that if you delete it, "it" knows to reappear on your IM list in, like, 20 seconds automatically.
I know, several of you will revert to calling me paranoid. Please don't waste your breath.
I'm just trying to figure out why and how the "monkey-business ...
Anyone else get driven nuts by dictators who STAT everything? There a group of about 3 doctors who work in the urgent care for the clinic I primarily type on and they STAT the great majority of their reports.
What's weird is that they don't make them all STAT, just the majority of them. At first I thought, "maybe they've just been trained wrong and were told that urgent notes need to be coded this way," or maybe when they call in to do their reports, the prompts they ...
She is on peritoneal dialysis. She does not have an access. She has an old right AV s/l *brachiostemino* AV graft which was shut down at this time. Thx! ...
I have an ortho doctor that I transcribe for, his office calls or emails me for STAT transcription constantly. I work for 2 family practice docs, 2 PAs and another ortho as well so I'm pretty busy. I often stop what I am working on to do this doctor's all-important work. My question is what is the standard for charging for STAT dictation? I wouldn't mind except, as I said, this happens every day. He cost me over $40 on Thursday because I was ...
Would appreciate opinions on this. Working as an IC and received an email regarding stat reports. If you are "scheduled" to be working and the hospital needs a stat you will be getting a call to transcribe the report. I am truly sick and tired of MT services taking advantage of IC status and then expecting an employee committment. Is it me, or is this situation getting worse? Recently I was looking to add hours as an IC and could not believe how many ...
Stroke/neuro disease specialist speaks with lisp and is eating while dictating to boot (always fun... LOL!). He is giving Past Medical History on patient, so his specialty actually may not be relevant. She is being seen for Alzheimer's with visual hallucinations. Other dictated PMH includes hypertension, diabetes mellitus type II. (Obviously not complete, given her current meds are Synthroid, atropine, vitamin E, Aricept, Lipitor, nifedipine, Namenda, glyburide. (Gi ...
Doctor left out an L. Gill's laminectomy
http://www.ispub.com/ostia/index.php?xmlFilePath=journals/ijss/vol2n2/lumbar.xml
Upon further review, it sounds like he is saying "consistent with a GILS or JILS procedure" (and then he spells it Gils or Jils). GILS or JILS procedure. Can someone confirm if this is correct?
This physician has a very thick Spanish accent and is so very hard to understand. He spells out G O G L I S (or X) procedure. An ...
OK, I know that probably nobody on here has heard of Stat-Copy Technologies out of Texas, because it is a small company, but I have to warn people anyway. The wage dispute person from MT Stars cannot help me because I am an independent contractor. This company now owes me over $2500 for work that I did in July and August. The last time she paid me was on Oct 10, for a check that I should have had on Aug 15 -- 2 months late. I have sent repeated e-mails aski ...
STAT Transcription in Michigan's ad says must have $$ own computer, own programs, own up-to-date books, Stedman's Medical spell checker, up-to-date Drug Index--$$--for low wages, oh, and pay your own taxes, no benefits. Hospitals buy equipment for doctors...anything they want to keep them happy and on staff. Once a radiologist came into the transcription department for batteries for his hospital-supplied hand-held Dictaphone so he could dictate his office notes...suppl ...
Have never done peds really and definitely not PICU so I am stumped here.
A 5-day-old girl with hypoplastic heart syndrome, just had a stage I Norwood procedure (whatever that is) with shunt placement.
"Her creatinine was 0.82 and preoperatively was 0.67 so not much of a change there. Her s/l "flank nares" have remained in the 60s."

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on the company board that STAT-Copy Technologies is over 2 months late paying me (over $2500). A week and a half ago, she had sent me an e-mail saying she sent a check, which I have not yet received as of today. I contacted her again to let her know I had not received any check. I told her I was tired of messing around and begging for my money and she would hear from my attorney. Well, she just e-mailed me and told me her company is filing ...
anymore. What a morale killer, and they just tick me off. I already know the shortcuts, but if I find it faster or less painful to mouse occasionally, then that's what I'm going to do. As long as I'm meeting my quota, then please back off. Jeez, I've never felt more smothered or stalked by a company. ...
And totally not typing a 28 min report. She said one thing, I did that but thought that was all I had to do. Boy do I feel stupid. This jobs pay may suck, but I still need it to pay bills etc. Hope there isn't too much bad fall-out. ...
I sent my resume in and just heard back last week asking if I was still interested. She sent a brief little word document with some account specs, cpl and paydates--no contract, HIPAA agreement, etc. I did three voice files the first day. She sent back a copy of my transcription, supposedly with corrections, but there were no QA markings or corrections. I did 15 voice files the next day and again she sent back a copy of my transcription with no obvious corrections. I asked her how I was sup ...
