No many posts on the voice-wreck board.... - magmed

Posted: Jul 06, 2014

so posting this here. I just can't seem to get any speed on VR and the drafts coming through are really not that bad. I can easily straight type 150-175 LPH, but I struggle with VR so much.  I just got hired at this company and we are only required to get 200 LPH, which is reasonable. Why is it such a struggle for me? I have tried and tried to figure it out. My eye cannot seem to follow with voice and I end up going over and over words. Have tried magnifying the screen to about 140%, following with my cursor, not following with my cursor, reading along with my hand on the mouse, etc. Something is just blocking me from flowing with this and I can't figure out what the hell is wrong with me.  Any suggestions, please? Editing is just so damn different from typing and I guess I'm not cut out for it.

Oh boy! *"NOT" many....I'm tired. nm - magmed

I completely understand what you're saying.

Here's what I don't get. MTSOs insist that MTs DESERVE half the pay for VR, but their lph requirement proves that they KNOW it's not possible for you to double your production. I can easily produce 200 lph of high-quality straight typing (with lots of short-cuts), but it's a struggle to produce 150 lph on VR. It's all a scam.

There's nothing wrong with you. MTSOs are all just slum lords. They're proud of introducing their employees to poverty and making them eligible for government assistance. Shame on them. How do these people sleep at night?

increasing production with VR - Cindy

I know the conditions for MTs are not ideal, but I think there are some things you can do to increase your VR production. The first, you may not like. That is to not edit that which does not need to be edited. If voice rec gives you, "The flag was red and white and blue," you leave it like that. Of course, you would have typed, "Red, white, and blue," but editing passages like this will slow you down. Similarly, you probably will find places where you would like to add punctuation. Don't add it unless absolutely necessary. Also, you mentioned your mouse. If your platform has keyboard shortcuts, learn them. The mouse will slow you down big time. Also, when you're listening, listen to phrases and sentences rather than individual words. I've been able to increase my VR speed quite a bit (can edit a 5-minute report in about 7 to 8 minutes). The pay still isn't the greatest, but there are ways of increasing your speed. I actually prefer VR to transcription. I think VR is less physically taxing. When I do straight transcription, it seems that I need to take more breaks and get stiff from sitting in one position too long. With VR, I seem to get to move around more. I think transcription and VR are two very different jobs. I would agree that straight transcription typically pays more, but I would also say that many VR editors could probably find ways to get faster. Hope this helps.

I would love to leave in, leave out ands, and sm - hate VR

punctuation but my company will penalize if ands and thes and punctuation are left out or put in, so I try listening to phrases but then I have to go back and make sure every word, every coma or where they think a period should goes, is entered or taken out. That's not to mention all the incorrect words coming in that have to be removed, fixed or whatever. I totally think depending on maybe where you work, VR is not a successful way to make money. I don't think it ever will be. Just my 2 cents.

Voice Wreck For Sure
Jul 17, 2012

What's with voice rec when most of the file is full of words that are not what the dictator says. I have to type more than edit on these reports. It seems to me it should be put in the straight type pool. It is hard to concentrate on these kinds of files and do a good job. ...

VOICE WRECK WORSE THAN EVER
May 13, 2014

Voice wreck has been set up to make us fail. That is clear to me now. The dictation could not be more clear, but the voice wreck will change it just to mess us up and prevent us from attaining any incentive or bonus. This has been particularly true with regard to numbers in lab values, ages, medication dosages, numbered lists, etc. NUANCE DOESN'T CARE. They just want their money. Also, there is no chance for advancement in this company. The only chance for change in this company is t ...

VOICE WRECK IS WORSE THAN EVER
Mar 06, 2015

Dictation could not be more clear. Voice Wreck is putting in udder nonsense. Yes, I know it should be utter nonsense. I'm trying to make a point because this is exactly what this sorry excuse of voice recognition is doing. We really have to ask ourselves, is this being done purposefully with the hope that we make more errors? My best guess is a resounding YES! These people will stoop to anything to squeeze a few more pennies out of us. ...

Voice Wreck Difference Between Accounts?
Aug 13, 2013

Is it possible for voice wreck to be better on one account than another, or am I just noticing coincidences? One account, I might re-type anywhere from 60-80%, another account I might re-type 20%. Could this be due to software or equipment, or is it just a coincidence? ...

Completely Fed Up With Horrible Transcend Voice Wreck
Jun 16, 2011

I am on working right now and had to get away and vent on her for a second because the editing with voice wreck is SOOOO bad right now, I am putting way more effort into the reports than what I am getting paid for.  There are amazingly stupid mistakes, whole sentences missing, other sentences made up that are nothing like the dictator is saying.  If this is going to be the way it is tonight, it's gonna be a short night for me.  I refuse to make crap pay for this kind of work. ...

IP Addresses From Posts On This Board
Jan 07, 2012

Further down this page, there is a post about TT employees being tracked by their IP addresses and then having lawsuits filed against them.  Is anybody here computer-savvy enough to explain to me how I can track the IP address of another poster here or the IP address of somebody who sends me an email? I thought this board was anonymous in a sense, although individuals can voluntarily give up their semi-anonymity if they use a regular posting name or respond to emails from the same email ad ...

If You Don't Like Complaining Posts On This Board, Don't Read Them.
Jan 23, 2012

An MT posting a complaint on this board is one of the reasons it is here!!!  If you don't like them, move on.  You do not have to read them, and you certainly do not have to respond. While I do not agree with personal attacks on a board or anywhere else on individuals, complaining about pay, workload, or company practices should not be considered complaining, but very useful information, maybe not to all, but probably to some. You work for a company who does not pay?  Name ...

Voice Recognition - Is Anybody Making Any Money At All On Voice?
Jan 12, 2013

I was wondering, is anybody making any money at all on voice?  I keep hearing just minimum or maybe a little more.  I call minimum wage 7.50 to 8.00 an hour.  My experience with it was at one point I was told that I hadn't made enough for minimum and they had to do make-up pay.  So how is everybody's experience with voice?  I run from it, and I just want to know if anybody really can make an money? Thanks. ...

You Know, MQs Speech Wreck Is Bad Enough
Nov 01, 2010

we have dictators who compose sentences such as this: "A xx-year-old female accompanied by daughter in secondary to within the last week has run out of her amlodipine, Prozac and clonidine anywhere from 3-5 days ago each of these." I kid you not, that is what this doctor said.  American doc, speaking clear English.  Now tell me, what am I supposed to do with that?  It is a verbatim account, but the last time I let some gobbly gook like that go through I got chewed out for it (!) ...

Looking For Job That Does Not Use Speech Wreck
Sep 29, 2012

I worked for Spheris for 4 years and it was great. Mmodal took over almost a year ago and changed everyone to speech wreck, took Outlook email away and put us on some horrible slow email system and now it takes at least 30 minutes of wait time to get the Help Desk on the phone. I am looking for a new position that is straight transcription. If anyone knows of one, PLEASE let me know!!!! Speech wreck has caused by paycheck to be cut in 1/3 at least. Thanks! ...

Another Speech Wreck
Nov 03, 2012

When Correcting The V-wreck
May 22, 2014

I can't help but think of my days and months of training and if I consistently put out work like I am correcting, I would have been fired in a New York minute!!!  Please don't post the normal you can get out, it's your fault for staying, blah, blah, blah.  I just wish someone would listen as to what a mess this is and the chances of mistakes getting through because there are so many corrections and words that are not even medical or consistent with the report.  Just ...

Speech Wreck Suggestion
Sep 02, 2010

I have tried to explain to manager that the program is slow, and does not seem to ever correct a lot of "normal" dictation, so I have come here to ask a question of you.  I feel that we are not getting enough keystroke count for these jobs.  I have had lengthy jobs with small actual counts because of all the repairing (MEing), and pickiing up of nearby conversations, using markers judiciously as requested.  None of these markers are included in the count that I can see, but they a ...

Speech Wreck Programmers
May 09, 2012

Does anyone know anything about this job?  Are they real people?  Or is is a software program correcting the SR software program?  What do they get paid?  How does it all work?  How does the software program work?  It is watching the corrections we make on a dictator and make changes?  It is working from some kind of medical dictionary of possible pronounciations (I made that up!)?  Anyone up for the challenge of explaining it to me?  Thanks in a ...

They Promised They Would Fix The Speech Wreck.
May 23, 2014

We were supposed to provide 3 job numbers with examples of the same errors being made over and over again. Well, I did just that with numerous jobs because of numerous errors. Not one stinking thing has been done. Does this mean my TSM was just whistling Dixie and blowing smoke and did nothing about the information I provided, or does it mean the ASR technicians were whistling Dixie, blowing smoking and did nothing? Why is no one held accountable for the mess that is called Nuance? ...

Speech Wreck Venting
Jul 14, 2014

I just came across "Benzapril" listed as a medication that Speech Wreckignition picked up.  Granted, that is how this doctor pronounced it, but it should be "benazepril."  (Also notice that the original was capped while the correct is lower case.)  Now, I've seen this a couple times, and from what I understand, the speech system can't just "make stuff up."  Someone has had to have physically type that out in straight transcription (either when it was learning) or c ...

So Torn That I'm Absolutely A Wreck! Need Advice Please.
May 19, 2012

I've been reading these boards for years, and have never posted. But I'm desperate for some advice. I have worked for years at a very small company as an IC and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, life events threw me a curve and I was forced to find an employee-status job. I thought I landed THE best opportunity. What Speech-wreck Products Does M*Modal
Dec 07, 2013

I work for another company, and they recently got a speech-wreck program that I believe has some M*Modal software in it.  Do they have SR software that is specifically for radiology? Also, if a company purchases SR software that has M*Modal's stamp on it, how likely is it that the purchasing company might be in line to get taken over by M*Modal?  Because if that happens, I'm out of there. ...

Speech "wreck" Is Making Me Crazy!
Apr 12, 2013

Anyone else notice more reports showing up with SR instead of TR lately? I have several on my accounts that seem to have been added lately that should not ever be on SR.  These are not situations that the speech engine is ever going to "learn." It takes human ears to deciper their "words." These dictators are just awful.  You know the ones...they talk so fast they don't finish the sentence and let you guess what it's supposed to be, chop off words mid thought, etc. Well, of c ...
