Posted: Mar 18, 2014

I know every time the phone rings or I get an Ipswitch email i'm going to have a tiny heart attack lol

The news probably won't come until tomorrow but it's the waiting to determine my whole future that's got me on edge!

gimmie a break - your whole future...

Could you be any more desperate?

That was uncalled for and just plain rude! - RadMT

The situation this company has put us in since at least October has made most of us desperate and miserable! We have no work, are working for pitiful wages and are working for a company that doesn't care at all about us that I truly believe is trying make us so miserable that we quit or use these new picky rules so they can find reasons to fire us so they don't have to pay us unemployment! The amount of money we make is pitiful and not enough to pay for training of any kind to start a new career, but as pitiful as it is, we need that money.
Personally, I am fortunate enough to be paying for my own coding class right now, but everyone isn't as fortunate. We are all desperate and if you're not, perhaps it's because you have not seen the writing on the wall like the rest of us have...
I grew up being taught if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Perhaps that would have been more appropriate here.
I for one wish the original poster much luck!!!

Kudos to you!!! I agree totally.

If what you say is true, why would you want to continue - working for this company?

[ In Reply To ..]
If they are bad employers for transcriptionists, why do you think they would be any better for coders? I don't understand your reasoning.
Because they are offering an "out" of the MT world. - Not RadMT
[ In Reply To ..]
After a period of time, if MM does not work out, you can find employment elsewhere. You are not "stuck" working for MM for ever and ever and ever...

Also, working for MM as a coder does not necessarily have to be a similar experience to working for them as an MT, an experience I personally have found to be just fine, anyways.
Out of the MT world - Used to be a RadMT
[ In Reply To ..]
You were never "stuck working for MM forever and ever" even as an MT. I see the point of the other poster - you may be jumping from the frying pan into the fire, and there is no guarantee that the wages, schedule, etc. will be any better as a production coder, which is what you are probably going to be. If you want to work at home, indeed you may still be "stuck." If they go bankrupt as is the rumor, well that is anyone's guess. It's a great learning opportunity though, and I wish you luck.
I know what you mean. - (nm)

You misunderstand me - RadMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I do not intend to stay with this company. I did not apply to test for the new Mmodal coding program. I have been taking coding classes through a local college. I have also been speaking with several local hospitals about coding positions with them and their requirements and will be testing for my certification next week. I do however support those that did test and are nervous and trying to find a new career that might improve their financial situation and wish them lots of luck. I have no idea how that side of the company may be run. Things may be better on that side since it seems to be growing and more and more accounts are being added according to the company emails.

I would be anxious and ready to find out too - its perfectly normal to feel

[ In Reply To ..]
That way and nothing wrong with being desperate when it comes to a job.

You have no idea what plans the OP has for her future and the role this coding program may play.

No one asked you personally for your feedback, yet you took the time to read and respond anyway with a mean and insulting post; not to mention, you were the first to comment.

Nervous - mtinmi

[ In Reply To ..]
Take a deep breath!! Waiting is torture. I sure hope you get the news you want and your life starts a new road to success with this new venture. It would be great to see you get out of the transcription stressed world.

thank you mtinmi <3 - :)

[ In Reply To ..]
I just want to know either way. I'm already in college for a different career, taking the summer off. If I don't get in this time I won't be applying in the fall because I will already be going full time and wouldn't dare take on coding too.

I wish everyone the best of luck!!

Hang in there! - txmt2

[ In Reply To ..]
I too am waiting and hope for the best! We took the initiative to apply and take test, so we have done our part. Now, it is in their hands. Take a breath and relax, knowing that you and all the rest of us have been given a chance and we were smart enough to grab on to it. Ignore the naysayers.

Know how you feel, but consider this... - Coder

[ In Reply To ..]
This, in itself, is not determining your future. It is just one way to get to the future YOU already determined.

Before this offer, perhaps you didn't consider the coding option for yourself. Now, you have had an opportunity to do that. You changed your thinking about what you wanted and about what you could do.

Wait and see what happens. If you get the offer, take it. If you don't, we'll help you map out a plan for doing it on your own. We are good at that, because we did it ourselves. You can, too.

that is really sweet. I still havent heard anything - East MT

NEWBIE GETTING NERVOUS
Aug 29, 2010

I'm new to the profession and new to the boards. I am here just trying to get a feel for the real world in transcription. I have to say the few things I have read on here so far are making me very nervous. I am just finishing my course within the next month or two through Penn Foster so the search for a job is in my near future... These are a few things I am curious about:  Is the MT job market really that bad? What advice can you give me as a new MT? Have any of you MT's out ...

Interviewing Soon And Nervous
Oct 01, 2010

I have an interview coming up and I am a little nervous.  I have not had an interview in years and I don't know what to expect.  The last two times I had interviews with an MTSO, they did not really interview me but instead just told me about the account and wanted to know what shift I wanted to work. For those of you who have been interviewing recently, what was it like?  What questions can I be expected to answer.  Thanks. ...

Nervous Transition
Oct 21, 2011

I have come into transciption within the past four years. This is something I have always wanted to do and finally found a way to get into the field. There does not seem to be alot of money in straight typing, and less in VR. I have always made incentive, but still - its just not enough and I work very hard to get that. Right now, I work for a company with straight typing only, no VR. I am taking a position with a company that has VR and it sounds to me like the position is pre ...

Soon To Be A Nuancer And Am Nervous
Nov 27, 2012

I'm getting ready to have software installed on my computer this week and am having second thoughts after reading the posts on this board.  I'm really upset about the off-shoring that Nuance does and was naive when I applied (I should've checked on the boards first).  I'm not sure if I should back out or give it a try.  The account I'm assigned to supposedly is a new clinic account so everything is up in the air - it'll be straight typing and then mov ...

MT Transitioning Out And Nervous
Jan 25, 2014

Seeking advice from other MTs who are currently in school for another field or have already transitioned out of MT. One semester to go and I will hopefully be prepared to enter a career field that has nothing to do with MT. Problem is, I find myself worrying about working outside the home. I've been an at-home MT for almost 12 years. I have found a new enjoyment being around people in my classes and activities, but I'm so used to the home environment as my workplace. I am ge ...

Applying To SoftScript But Nervous
Nov 12, 2012

Well, I am going to go ahead and apply to SoftScript and I must say I am nervous hearing the negatives about the work, but at the same time if I don't get out of Nuance I will pull my hair out soon. At least I have read a few positives about SoftScript. I have read NO POSITIVES about Nuance. I came in as part of a buyout several years ago and it is scary to think I might be leaving one bad to another bad, but at the same time I think Nuance is trying to push some of us out anyway and I have ...

Nervous Waiting On Tests Results For A Job
Jun 27, 2013

I'm worried I didn't pass it. I pored over it with a fine-tooth comb many times, so if it's meant to be, it will be, and if not, it won't. I am really broke though, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I passed it. Can anyone else relate? ...

I Have A Job Interview Tomorrow At A Hospital And I'm So Nervous
Sep 24, 2014

I have a job interview at a huge hospital tomorrow for a medical records analyst.  I'm very excited that I even got a call for an interview, but I'm also scared beyond words.  I haven't had a face-to-face interview in 12 years and I've become such a hermit that I'm scared to death of going for an interview, driving there, answering questions, etc.  I went back to school, just finished and got my degree, applied for this job and now I have an interview so i ...

Work Comp For Nervous Breakdown LOL?
Feb 25, 2015

I probably shouldn't even be complaining considering how bad most people have it at this company (and I spent 4 years waist deep in the existential horror of ever expanding BoBs and ASR so I know it can be so much worse), but sometimes the little stuff just drives me nuts.  The last three months have been a QA rollercoaster.  In December, I flunked my quality audit.  Oh my god, I put "were" instead of "was."  I can see how that's a critical error.  Hundreds of ...

You Know, MQs Speech Wreck Is Bad Enough
Nov 01, 2010

we have dictators who compose sentences such as this: "A xx-year-old female accompanied by daughter in secondary to within the last week has run out of her amlodipine, Prozac and clonidine anywhere from 3-5 days ago each of these." I kid you not, that is what this doctor said.  American doc, speaking clear English.  Now tell me, what am I supposed to do with that?  It is a verbatim account, but the last time I let some gobbly gook like that go through I got chewed out for it (!) ...

Voice Wreck For Sure
Jul 17, 2012

What's with voice rec when most of the file is full of words that are not what the dictator says. I have to type more than edit on these reports. It seems to me it should be put in the straight type pool. It is hard to concentrate on these kinds of files and do a good job. ...

Looking For Job That Does Not Use Speech Wreck
Sep 29, 2012

I worked for Spheris for 4 years and it was great. Mmodal took over almost a year ago and changed everyone to speech wreck, took Outlook email away and put us on some horrible slow email system and now it takes at least 30 minutes of wait time to get the Help Desk on the phone. I am looking for a new position that is straight transcription. If anyone knows of one, PLEASE let me know!!!! Speech wreck has caused by paycheck to be cut in 1/3 at least. Thanks! ...

Another Speech Wreck
Nov 03, 2012

As per usual, SR came up with a medical worde for a non-medical word and used it throughout a report.  Think about what might sound like "peanuts" and substitute that in sentences like "the patient was allergic to peanuts,"  "She ate some peanuts." ...

When Correcting The V-wreck
May 22, 2014

I can't help but think of my days and months of training and if I consistently put out work like I am correcting, I would have been fired in a New York minute!!!  Please don't post the normal you can get out, it's your fault for staying, blah, blah, blah.  I just wish someone would listen as to what a mess this is and the chances of mistakes getting through because there are so many corrections and words that are not even medical or consistent with the report.  Just ...

I Am Enrolling In The Andrew's School Next Week And Am Getting Nervous
Jan 24, 2011

Hi. My name is Suzanne and I am enrolling in the Andrew's School for Medical Coding next week, on Tuesday February 1, 2001 and am getting nervous. I am a medical transcriptionist and I want to know if any thing I have done in the last 10 years, such as medical terminology and anatomy, will help me. Of course I will take that part of the course, but I want to know if that will help. Also, I am most nervous about deciphering the codes. I guess what I am asking is how do I know I will be a goo ...

Speech Wreck Suggestion
Sep 02, 2010

I have tried to explain to manager that the program is slow, and does not seem to ever correct a lot of "normal" dictation, so I have come here to ask a question of you.  I feel that we are not getting enough keystroke count for these jobs.  I have had lengthy jobs with small actual counts because of all the repairing (MEing), and pickiing up of nearby conversations, using markers judiciously as requested.  None of these markers are included in the count that I can see, but they a ...

Speech Wreck Programmers
May 09, 2012

Does anyone know anything about this job?  Are they real people?  Or is is a software program correcting the SR software program?  What do they get paid?  How does it all work?  How does the software program work?  It is watching the corrections we make on a dictator and make changes?  It is working from some kind of medical dictionary of possible pronounciations (I made that up!)?  Anyone up for the challenge of explaining it to me?  Thanks in a ...

VOICE WRECK WORSE THAN EVER
May 13, 2014

Voice wreck has been set up to make us fail. That is clear to me now. The dictation could not be more clear, but the voice wreck will change it just to mess us up and prevent us from attaining any incentive or bonus. This has been particularly true with regard to numbers in lab values, ages, medication dosages, numbered lists, etc. NUANCE DOESN'T CARE. They just want their money. Also, there is no chance for advancement in this company. The only chance for change in this company is t ...

They Promised They Would Fix The Speech Wreck.
May 23, 2014

We were supposed to provide 3 job numbers with examples of the same errors being made over and over again. Well, I did just that with numerous jobs because of numerous errors. Not one stinking thing has been done. Does this mean my TSM was just whistling Dixie and blowing smoke and did nothing about the information I provided, or does it mean the ASR technicians were whistling Dixie, blowing smoking and did nothing? Why is no one held accountable for the mess that is called Nuance? ...

Speech Wreck Venting
Jul 14, 2014

I just came across "Benzapril" listed as a medication that Speech Wreckignition picked up.  Granted, that is how this doctor pronounced it, but it should be "benazepril."  (Also notice that the original was capped while the correct is lower case.)  Now, I've seen this a couple times, and from what I understand, the speech system can't just "make stuff up."  Someone has had to have physically type that out in straight transcription (either when it was learning) or c ...

VOICE WRECK IS WORSE THAN EVER
Mar 06, 2015

Dictation could not be more clear. Voice Wreck is putting in udder nonsense. Yes, I know it should be utter nonsense. I'm trying to make a point because this is exactly what this sorry excuse of voice recognition is doing. We really have to ask ourselves, is this being done purposefully with the hope that we make more errors? My best guess is a resounding YES! These people will stoop to anything to squeeze a few more pennies out of us. ...

So Torn That I'm Absolutely A Wreck! Need Advice Please.
May 19, 2012

I've been reading these boards for years, and have never posted. But I'm desperate for some advice. I have worked for years at a very small company as an IC and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, life events threw me a curve and I was forced to find an employee-status job. I thought I landed THE best opportunity. Voice Wreck Difference Between Accounts?
Aug 13, 2013

Is it possible for voice wreck to be better on one account than another, or am I just noticing coincidences? One account, I might re-type anywhere from 60-80%, another account I might re-type 20%. Could this be due to software or equipment, or is it just a coincidence? ...

What Speech-wreck Products Does M*Modal
Dec 07, 2013

I work for another company, and they recently got a speech-wreck program that I believe has some M*Modal software in it.  Do they have SR software that is specifically for radiology? Also, if a company purchases SR software that has M*Modal's stamp on it, how likely is it that the purchasing company might be in line to get taken over by M*Modal?  Because if that happens, I'm out of there. ...
