For eScription, is AutoCorrect of Shorthand better, if I do - both straight and VR typing? sm

Posted: Dec 19, 2009

AutoCorrect seems much easier to deal with, but won't handle long canned text, and there is no "normals" program in eScription I can add long reports to.

I cannot tweak Shorthand to my liking; no matter how much I try, I still have to fight to get a lot of terms to expand.  It's really annoying.  But it can handle unlimited entries and long blocks of Text that AutoCorrect can't.

You can do full pages of canned text with Autocorrect - sapient

If you want to do a large body of text, or even an entire ROS or PE or whatever you can. Type the text you want within the report, then highlight all that you want included. Open up Autocorrect and hit the little circle near the bottom that says "formatted text" (rather than 'plain text')
This will open up a larger box and allows it to retain all the spaces, bolding, returns, etc. Then save.

Thank you! I never knew that about AutoCorrect. - That makes things much simpler. nm

Oh - and there is a 'normals" program in ES - sapient

but I think that the supervisors/IT person needs to add things to it. Its the ALT+M menu.

Have to fight to get SH terms to expand??? SM - MissIndigo

Definitely contact tech support at your company or SH directly--tomorrow. Expanding is what this program is for and does extremely well. You probably just need a couple of settings reset, or something simple like that, about 2 minutes of skilled time, to allow you to cruise.

Absolutely forget trying to work with both it and AutoCorrect. That'd be like buying a car but getting a motorcycle to push it because you didn't know how to make it run right.

Copy Shorthand Files Into AutoCorrect?
Jun 01, 2015

I have a potential job offer but it would be using their computer with Dolbey Fusion and I am not allowed to use Shorthand expander but they said if I have files in Autocorrect they will transfer them for me. I know there is a way to get autocorrect files into Shorthand and I am pretty sure there is a way to do the reverse but I can't figure it out and I have searched for days online without success. Of course Shorthand customer service won't help me. They just keep asking me why I ...

Transferring Word/WordPerfect Autocorrect To PC Shorthand
Nov 18, 2009

Hi everyone, I use both Word and WordPerfect.  I have autocorrect entries in both Word and WordPerfect that I would like to transfer over to PC Shorthand.  Since I'm new to PC shorthand, I've been reading it over.   I know with PC Shorthand we can use the SHCNV.EXE to convert autocorrect. My problem is that I am at a loss as to what the Word and WordPerfect auto correct entires are labeled or where they are stored in my computer. I did a search and for Word Perfe ...

Using Shorthand With Escription
Apr 09, 2014

Has anyone had problems using Shorthand with Escription? My expansions are showing up with the first letter missing or sometimes the first couple letters missing. ShorThand, Escription, Stedman's Spellcheck
Nov 24, 2014

I have used Shorthand 10 for several years and have never had as big a problem with expanding until I started using escription.  I work on v. 9, 10 and 11 and am seeing errors that are clearly expander related that I absolutely do not see or catch when I am in the reports.  I am to the point of starting from scratch on my Shorthand as it has so many entries that it would be easier just to start over.  What I am wondering is what settings those of you who also use Shorthand have on ...

Question About Using AutoCorrect, Please
Sep 09, 2010

I was watching someone use an expander and when she misspelled her short form (she hit space and nothing happened), she backed up to the word and backed over the last misspelled 4 or so letters of a long string, and typed in some new ones, and the whole short form expanded the way she wanted.  Like txsdoisd was supposed to be txsdoerf, so the erf was backspaced over and replaced and the whole thing rolled out to, "Will AutoCorrect do this too?" :) Not really, but now I'm wondering if ...

Does Windows 7 Have An Autocorrect?
Dec 10, 2011

I'm starting with Transcend soon and will be having their program downloaded.  I bought a new Windows 7 computer and can't find the autocorrect.  My older computer is a Windows XP and autocorrect has always worked great for me.  I'll need to supply my own word expander program.  Should I use the old computer or is there an expander program that works great with Windows 7?  Money is tight for me right now so I was hoping to stay with autocorrect. ...

Word Autocorrect
