Transferring Word/WordPerfect autocorrect to PC shorthand - Sunshine State MT

Posted: Nov 18, 2009

Hi everyone,

I use both Word and WordPerfect.  I have autocorrect entries in both Word and WordPerfect that I would like to transfer over to PC Shorthand.  Since I'm new to PC shorthand, I've been reading it over.   I know with PC Shorthand we can use the SHCNV.EXE to convert autocorrect.

My problem is that I am at a loss as to what the Word and WordPerfect auto correct entires are labeled or where they are stored in my computer.

I did a search and for Word Perfect and found the files WT12US.UWL and WT12EN.MOR.  Would these be the files I use for the SHCNV.EXE?  What is the difference between these two lists (I understand one is a user word list and the other is the main word list)?  So when I used my autocorrect in Word Perfect is it taking it from both of these files?

Is the Microsoft Word list the USER.ACO file?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated!Cool

how to transfer AutoCorrect file between computers. You can do the same thing and create a notepad file to add to your PC Shorthand program. This is what I did.

This link is for transferring AutoText, not AutoCorrect. - NM

Here it is. ..

Word AutoCorrect is in the .acl file. Formatted AutoCorrect is in the normal.dot. (sm) - Cheryl

The easiest way to locate the correct acl file is to add an entry and then do a search for the file by the Modified date. You may have to switch your search view to Details to see dates.

Wordperfect 5.1 Conversion To Word
Dec 02, 2009

I used WP5.1 and convert to Word.  I know it is old school, but I am much faster using the DOS program.  I had no problems with it until last night.   Not sure if an update ran or what, but now when I convert the document from WP5.1 to Word all the tabs disappear.   Also, I use Sylcount for WP5.1 and I have a few girls that help me type who type in Word so I convert the word document to a WP5.1 file to save for counting purposes, even though it is sent to the doctor ...

For EScription, Is AutoCorrect Of Shorthand Better, If I Do
Dec 19, 2009

AutoCorrect seems much easier to deal with, but won't handle long canned text, and there is no "normals" program in eScription I can add long reports to.   I cannot tweak Shorthand to my liking; no matter how much I try, I still have to fight to get a lot of terms to expand.  It's really annoying.  But it can handle unlimited entries and long blocks of Text that AutoCorrect can't. ...

Transferring Word With Settings To New Computer
Nov 17, 2009

My 7-yr-old computer finally needs to be replaced, and I found a good deal on a new powerful machine, but I do not want to lose all of my Word settings, including dictionary, autocorrects, autotexts, macros, etc. It has taken me years to build these files and they make my work go very smoothly. If I install the same version of Word (2002) on my new machine, how do I transfer my customized Word program to the new machine so I can go right to work just like on the old machine? When I have tried ...

Of course Shorthand customer service won't help me. They just keep asking me why I ...

Word Autocorrect
May 24, 2013

I have been blessed with being able to work for smaller companies for the last 9 years.I just started with a new company and the platform doesn't support Word so I can't use my autocorrect, which I have been building shortcuts in all this time. We have tried pcshorthand/speedtype and are having issues with the expansion. I so miss typing in Word. Is not supporting Word the trend of the future? Should I just accept it, or look for something that I can still use Word in? ...
