Word Autocorrect - bigskymom

I have been blessed with being able to work for smaller companies for the last 9 years.I just started with a new company and the platform doesn't support Word so I can't use my autocorrect, which I have been building shortcuts in all this time. We have tried pcshorthand/speedtype and are having issues with the expansion. I so miss typing in Word. Is not supporting Word the trend of the future? Should I just accept it, or look for something that I can still use Word in?

What platform will you be using? Some of the platforms have ther own built in autocorrect and are even better as you can save whole documents. I have not heard anything other than Word 8 and Vista are not compatible to a lot of platforms.

It is in Scribe, which works like Notepad, I guess. i really dislike it! I could maybe get used to the idea of having to rebuild all my entries into a new software program, but the program still doesn't work as fast as autocorrect. Ugh.

Emdat InScribe? Can't you import your Autocorrect entries - into its proprietary expander?

It's been years, and I never actually began working in it, but that's what I did with a job I was going to start that used InScribe. I needed some tech help to get it done, but we did eventually get them in there. If you have fewer than I did (about 10,000 at that time), probably would go easier. But maybe not the same since this possibility seems to have not been tried already.

I could never get used to their platform, but found it easier to "type" in Word, and cut and paste into the platform. worked for me, but things may have changed. It has been a few years!

Thank you! This is just "Scribe" and I was told I have to purchase my own expander. Don't know what I'm going to do! I have almost 45K entries including typo correction.

I worked scribe in the past for a company with ad on 'other' board - but used PCShorthand with it as

I never use autocorrect all my years. Just my preference.

Why are you asking here? You need to take this up with someone at your company. They will know if you can ctransfer your entries somehow.

Maybe worth trying a trial of Instant Text. - sorry, never heard of that platform. nm

IT is NOT the answer to everybody's expansion programs... clunky, old, difficult to get used to and use, particularly if you have been using autocorrect all these years, will not work with MANY platforms. ugh. hated it!!!

But since the OP had already tried the main expanders besides Autocorrect that I would have suggested, IT was the other main option I could think of.

If I was working in a platform with no decent included expander, I'd be willing to tweak IT to work to the best of my ability (if it was the only thing compatible) rather than go without an expander at all. IT can be pared down to essentially work like Autocorrect/Shorthand (none of their suggestions, etc.), which may be losing a lot of its capabilities, but the only way I could work with it.

Even if there is an included expander, if it couldn't import my 15,000+ expansions (and OP has almost 45,000!), I'd also be willing to experiment with IT for that reason, rather than re-enter them all from scratch. Your mileage may vary, of course.

I recently started working at home using Word 2007. I have put all of my shortcuts into the autocorrect feature and this has worked out wonderful for me and I am not looking to change that. I do, however, need to find out how to BACK UP/SAVE that file!!! I don't know what I will do if I lose all of this information! think it would be worth it to purchase something like Instant Text. But I'm worried that if Word crashes, my computer crashes, I change jobs, etc that I will lose my entire expander file. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to back up these files to move to a new computer when necessary or do you have to redo the entire thing (ugh). I was just offered a job and the company uses Instant Text as their expander. I have over 1900 entries in Word's autocorrect in the MSO1033.acl file. This has probably been asked and answered a thousand times over, but can't seem to locate the results: Can I take my Word autocorrect and import the entries into Instant Text without have to copy and paste them in individually? Hi everyone, I use both Word and WordPerfect. I have autocorrect entries in both Word and WordPerfect that I would like to transfer over to PC Shorthand. HELP! I have searched high and low looking for the instructions on how to take an abbreviations list and import it into MS Word's AutoCorrect. There is hardly no info online about this. I'm asking this for a friend. Her computer crashed a couple weeks ago, so she got a new computer with Windows 7. She is still using Word 2007. She has entered new autocorrect entries as she works and most of them are retained. I was watching someone use an expander and when she misspelled her short form (she hit space and nothing happened), she backed up to the word and backed over the last misspelled 4 or so letters of a long string, and typed in some new ones, and the whole short form expanded the way she wanted. Like txsdoisd was supposed to be txsdoerf, so the erf was backspaced over and replaced and the whole thing rolled out to, "Will AutoCorrect do this too?" :) Not really, but now I'm wondering if ...
