Is it possible to make any money doing editing for 0.03 a line? I was offered a position with them and it is 90-95% editing. I have never done editing before and am just wondering if it is something that is worth trying. It is only part-time. I have been trying to find something, but I am not having any luck. TIA

I applied with them too and tested but it has been almost a week and i haven't heard anything.

It was about 4 days, but when I talked to them today, they said they were busy they are moving their office. That could be a reason why you didn't hear back from them.

Be aware that they play the same games as many other MTSOs. Just last week, the manager wrote that she would have to hire more help if we all didn't just jump when they said jump. Of course, I knew that she was already hiring. They overhire, and then we have no work.

You may have more than one account, but you have one ID and all of your accounts are in the same work pool together. They manipulate the work like I've never seen before.
You can never plan on which account you will actually be working on, and then they might "forget" to return your other accounts to your work pool.

I'm not aware of the office move; at least, I haven't received any emails from them regarding this, and the President is working. She just sent out a group email reminder yesterday regarding the weekend commitment and the fees charged if you do not make your commitment, but she has not mentioned any office move.

When I worked there, they cut my pay and let go of long-time employees. They just don't treat - mqmt

They are not unlike a lot of other MTSOs, though. They are just another MTSO who use MTs like equipment, and they do not seem to know the difference between IC and employee.

You can make your own schedule. But, you commit to a certain minimum of lines per pay period. So, if you cannot get those lines during your scheduled time, you have to work whenever they make the most work available, or pay a fee.

While you are supposed to be an IC, they make new rules and change old rules quite unilaterally.

There is no discussion of changes to the rules. Either you agree to their new rules and frequent changes or you leave, which is what I did.

The last time I checked, they have a fee if you do not agree to at least 13,000 lines per pay period, another fee if you do not reach your minimum line commitment for the pay period, and a third fee if you do not complete at least 20% of your total lines for the pay period on the weekend.

If they're charging you fees as you state above - Unbelievable

So I have been working for private doctors for the past few years. Prior to that I worked for national companies doing straight transcription. Rates back then were 8 to 10 cpl, with 8 cpl being pretty low. Now 8 cpl seems to be where companies tap off. So, here it goes -- We all know the medical transcription industry has really gone downhill with regard to our pay. I currently just lost about $10/hour to change to editing and I have been doing it for several months hoping that it would get better, but it has not. This is just crazy to me. I got a job offer from both companies today. One is for night's with much better pay and the other is during the day with some weekend hours in a month, but really low start out pay. I applied to Fast Chart, tested and then was offered a position. So, I read their contract and got to the fees section. I knew they charged a 7.50 fee for not meeting your line requirement, but then there was going to be another fee after you had been there for 90 days. This fee is calculated using some kind of formula 40.00 - (A/B)*40....A is number of lines you actually transcribed and B is the Line requirement and then there is another formula to calculate edited lines. ...

One company to stay away from is Fast Chart, but they OVERHIRE BIG TIME, and you cannot make a living, always running out of work, they ask for shifts, but it's a free for all, and they even posted in their newsletter and congats to a VR editor or edited 53,000 lines in a pay period! I have worked for this company for 6 months, and I am about to quit. I was reading some posts about Fast Chart Transcription were people said they were getting 7 cents a line with them. I don't know when that was, but she started me at 3 cents a line. I have been a transcriptionist for 30+ years. This past year, the hospital I was working for replaced myself and 27 other fabulous ladies with an outside service. I am now working for a service, and 85-90% of the reports I get are editing and the rest transcription. My paychecks are frightening. As far as editing goes, I just don't see it. I type my butt off full time and don't make anywhere close to $2k a month. This is the first time I've gotten to see it since it's the first time they've had enough work for me to make my line count.
