impossible to make any money the way the line count is set up? - no done

Is it just me or are these companies making it impossible to make any money the way the line count is set up? I can type all day and make very close to minimum wage. It never was this way before.

I am making now what is "good money" in this field with my company. No VR, straight transcription and paid weekly. However, they way they figure the lines are "characters with spaces" rather than the straight line, which in the long run, does add up when you are not being paid for headers, footers, etc.

Please share which company you work for. TransTech has gone almost ENTIRELY to VR. I love straight transcription and make SO MUCH MORE MONEY, rather than the 1/2 line rate cut for editing VR. The reason we MT's can't make money is because each MT edits differently (due to lack of knowledge of account and not following account specifics - because companies are ALWAYS hiring and throwing new MT's on the existing accounts) and speech machine never learns correctly. It is a lose-lose situation for the MT, though, because if you teach the speech machine too well, you lose the dictator to VR entirely! Then we start over again with another dictator training the machine with that dictator. I notice that every week on Monday, my dictators change to the worse -- new ones to teach machine on. I HATE VR !!!! Not the editing/platform, NOT lack of my skills, but the LOSS OF MONEY because there is NO WAY you can make twice as much on a consistent basis to compensate for the 1/2 line rate CUT. The slow fumbling, pausing dictators (10-20 minute reports) KILL every chance to make twice as much, as proclaimed by the MTSOs.

I was just going to post this. I quit a company in November. Same thing as you say...the pay of 8.5/line I could have lived with, but I would type for hours and the lines never seemed to add up. It was so disappointing when I checked the line count every day. I definitely think they manipulate line counts. I sometimes also wonder if it is the platform that slows us down. I'm wondering if you've worked for the same company I was with. Email me and we'll compare. That company had great dictators, always had work, paid on time, but I just wore myself off for the little that they paid. It was like a sweat shop and slave labor!

I can do it most of the time, but every now and then I miss it, sometimes by as much as 20 lines per hour. I have had 1 email asking that I use my time more productively and make the line count. I have had it..The past 2 paychecks I made approximately $200.00 less..constantly getting work I have never done before from hospitals I have never done because there is no work in my hospitals, constantly having to run searches in DoQManage for reports because I have never done those hospitals before..then we are told there is a certain amount of lines/hour we have to do..there is NOT enough time in an hour to do all this plus transcribe. I type my butt off full time and don't make anywhere close to $2k a month. This is the first time I've gotten to see it since it's the first time they've had enough work for me to make my line count. They don't pay for spaces, plus they have a weird way of counting lines. Time to send out resumes. I am not typing my way into carpal tunnel for this pittance they call a paycheck. So I have been working for private doctors for the past few years. Prior to that I worked for national companies doing straight transcription. Rates back then were 8 to 10 cpl, with 8 cpl being pretty low. Now 8 cpl seems to be where companies tap off.
