Fast Chart Transcription Company - Nora Smith

I have worked for this company for 6 months, and I am about to quit. I was reading some posts about Fast Chart Transcription were people said they were getting 7 cents a line with them. I don't know when that was, but she started me at 3 cents a line. Not only that, no matter how carefully I reviewed over and over the reports I did, she nitpicked everything and said my QA score was too low, 92%. I looked at her corrections and it was things like when the doctor dictated O2 sat is 99%, i changed it to O2 saturation, because it's not a sat. I also changed a sentence the doctor said, Will see the patient back, to I will see the patient back, because if you start the sentence with will, that's a question. But, it was wrong. I wouldn't recommend anyone work for this place, and next Monday I'm turning her into the Department of Labor for paying such low wages. This lady is horrible to work for.

That is absolute highway robbery wages and I don't blame you for quitting and that QA is beyond ridiculous. I work as an IC (not really my choice)and have a wonderful account, but it is rather sporadic and sometimes nonexistent it seems. For a couple of years, I would look for another MT job to supplement and each one, no matter what, was terrible. The ESLs were too much for me; I hate VR, and the software was either too cumbersome or too old. Anyway, I stopped looking and decided I would make due with what I have.

I guess my point is regarding working as an MT, where do you look for a job? I always wonder where these women work who say they work for great companies. I can't believe they exist and even if they are a good company, what about the dictation. So many foreign doctors and horrible dictators, I don't know how they do it.

I have been doing this for 25 years and I just cannot do what is out there anymore. I feel I am hanging by a thread with this company and when it goes, that will be it for me.

I know what you mean. I have over 30 years experience and in the last 15 years, I only found one decent company to work for and that was CMC transcription. But two months after I started with them, Nuance came in and stole the account they had been doing for the past 30 years with Children's Hospital and Virginia Mason, and that job was gone. All of the rest of the jobs I've had with Medquist, Transcend, Keystrokes, and Thompson Transcription have been total duds where I was given every bad ESL dictator and criticized for not doing the reports perfectly. Not sure where else to look anymore.

When I worked there, the owner never QA'd anything or sent feedback, but the QA woman were total nitpickers, especially one in particular, "S." After almost 3 years of putting up with their games, working extra on weekends, etc, once they were done with me, I was kicked out of the system. When I went to my email to send a note to them, thinking that there was some software glitch, I noted an email announcing that they were downsizing due to losing a client and my contract was cancelled. No other notice.

One company to stay away from is Fast Chart, but they OVERHIRE BIG TIME, and you cannot make a living, always running out of work, they ask for shifts, but it's a free for all, and they even posted in their newsletter and congats to a VR editor or edited 53,000 lines in a pay period! I put in an application for a job here a day after it was posted, which was too late because of the good pay they were offering. I just got an email back saying they had overwhelming response from their ad. Another MT on here said she took the test. I know other companies do the same, but there are some that do not bother contacting you at all or allow you to take a test, knowing they already have enough applicants. ...

I got a job offer from both companies today. One is for night's with much better pay and the other is during the day with some weekend hours in a month, but really low start out pay. I applied to Fast Chart, tested and then was offered a position. So, I read their contract and got to the fees section. I knew they charged a 7.50 fee for not meeting your line requirement, but then there was going to be another fee after you had been there for 90 days. This fee is calculated using some kind of formula 40.00 - (A/B)*40....A is number of lines you actually transcribed and B is the Line requirement and then there is another formula to calculate edited lines. ...
