FiOS vs. Cable internet service - Need Some Savings
Posted: Jun 24, 2011
Trying to decide whether or not to switch from cable provided internet to FiOS. Anyone out there have an opinion?
I just switched 1 month ago - Xtra$Saved

I made the switch. My total cable bill with internet, TV and phone was $185. a month. I switched to FIOS for $102 a month. They give you a 4-port router and there is software downloaded to your computer that is an at-home agent should you have problems, you enter the software and it is supposed to detect problems and fix for you (or you could call them on the phone). So far, I have not had any issues with any of it. I think the internet speed is about the same as my old cable. But you can get a "boost" for an extra $10 a month I think. So for me, it was a dollar-saving decision. After 1 year, it will go to $120 a month. Then I will see what they hit me up for after that. I needed to save the $80 a month now, so I did it. Good luck in your decision.
ATT U-verse has come to my area and offering a very reasonable package for phone and internet. Can anyone who is using the U-Verse Internet through ATT give their experience, i.e. whether the uploads and downloads are sufficient for transcription. The highest offered I my area is the MaxPlus which is about 18 megabytes. I am using cable now but looking for a better deal. TYVM ...
Does anyone have Verizon FIOS, phone, internet and TV and also work at home working with a company using a VPN? Do you know if FIOS is compatible with the VPN. My cable bill is now $183 a month for triple play and I am trying to get it lowered. Verizon has a special but I don't know if VPNs are compatible with their internet service. Where I worked before, I had to use a VPN and had to use cable, for some reason, it was quirky. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks ...
Cable versus DSL? Do any of you have Verizon DSL? If so, do you have problems with it ? I had cable and switched to Verizon and thinking I made a BIG MISTAKE!! ...
It is very annoying to see so many companies with a DSL or cable only requirement to apply for a position with them.
I use a fixed wireless connection with Doc-Q-Scribe and with ChartNet with absolutely no problems at alll. In fact, I am consistently one of the top...or THE top producer of lines every month and I am up against MTs who mostly have cable and DSL.
That cable and DSL only policy is keeping some excellent MTs from applying for positions. Many of these compan ...
Does anyone use DSL versus cable high-speed internet? Does it work well enough? Or does anyone use anything other than cable that works? Thanks for your input.

Does anyone who has time warner cable have problems with connections if they are late with their payment? Seems like everytime I am late with my payment, it seems as though they start playing games with my connection. Has anyone else noted this? ...
I am thinking about switching my current phone line and going with a bundle deal for our second house. Does Dictaphone C-phone work through a cable phone line? I still have the copper wiring at my primary home because I was afraid to switch it so didn't include the phone service in our cable package there. Thanks!

I live in a rural area and have limited options for internet providers. Currently have satellite but not happy with service. Anyone know anything about Verizon wireless cards? What is the speed comparable to? Dial up? DSL? Thanks ...
I have had it with Hughesnet and am going to try Verizon broadband. I was just wondering if others who use it have any trouble staying under the 5 GB monthly limit. I really only use my computer for work, work email and a small amount of personal email, paying bills, and facebook. Very occasionally a you tube video or something like that. I'm not sure what that all would add up to. ...
Any companies that alloow satellite internet? There is no DSL or cable internet available at my new address. The only thing available is satellite. Right now, I'm having to go to my mother's to work so I really am considering trying to find a company that will allow satellite internet. ...
I use Express Scribe and for no apparent reason three days ago the internet began shutting down EVERY time I click on my next job - I have to open everything back up up to four times before it will finally open the job. I work for dictators who often do 30-second dictations so I spend most of my day opening the internet and Express Scribe back up - maddening! My employer can't help and the techs told her it sounded like security/firewall issue but I haven't updated or added that, onl ...
You all do know that because this is a public forum, that ANYONE can say WHATEVER they want and pump up their company, MQ, M*Modal, Nuance, ad. naseum? Right? You do know that, okay. Back in the "day", we kinda knew who was who, and what was what; it is not that way anymore. It is a whole new world. You can open a new company with a couple bucks, post a lot of "WOW" comments on Google reviews and what-not, hey, looking good, good ratings/reviews. Really, you&n ...
Since we work remotely for MTSOs that may be hundreds or even thousands of miles away, can they really tell if we have DSL or calble or satellite or broadband, etc? I think what I am trying to say is how would they know from that far away what type of internet we have. I have had terrible luck in landing a job with great experience, 25 years and heavy experience with ESL. I do not have much in the way of VR, but am willing to learn. The reason I cannot get a job is ...
I am going to need mobile internet access to work. Sprint has a mobile hotspot for $50 a month that gives you 6 GB of data. I have no idea how many GB I use working. Has anyone ever used a hotspot for working and how did it turn out?
Thanks ...
I know there is an internet card that you can buy to get you access to the internet on your computer if you are in an area without direct access. Where would I buy one? I am traveling and will be in a hotel that supposedly has internet but what happens if they don't for some reason. So I will be in range of an internet tower, just not access to wifi or a plug in internet connection. Any help would be great. Just wondering where I get one, and if you might know the cost. I only need it ...
Can we use internet through Dish network. I currently have comcast and I absolutely hate this company. We got rid of our cable through Comcast and went with Dish. We kept the internet but the speed is ridiculously slow. Wondering if I can just go with Dish internet instead. If not, what type of internest connection do some of you use if not Comcast. Thanks for any info! ...
Does anyone have internet through DirecTV who works for MM? We are lookin at a house where cable is not currently available and we'd have to have DirecTV for TV and internet and I'm not sure if it is considered OK for MT or not. I know "satelllite" interneti isn't but wasn't sure if DSL through DirecTV was considered that or not. Thanks! ...
So many websites now are giving the message that the version of IE that we have to use in order to do our work for Nuance is obsolete, not supported. I'm wondering if that could be why my computer is running so slowly lately. (When I Google something now, I literally go back to my report and keep working while the Google page is coming up). It never used to be like this. Has anybody else noticed this? I even called my internet provider and upgraded to turbo speed over the weekend, but I ...
and came up with a listing for it on eBay.
I wonder if you get any discount on your hospital bill if it is bidding on your surgical equipment on eBay, or even if you can bring your own. Forget high surgeon fees, this stuff is radically expensive!!! ...
