Satellite internet - blondie

Posted: Nov 13, 2011

Any companies that alloow satellite internet? There is no DSL or cable internet available at my new address. The only thing available is satellite. Right now, I'm having to go to my mother's to work so I really am considering trying to find a company that will allow satellite internet.

Typo-- meant allow lol - blondie

They want you to use high speed cable connection, no satellite was ever mentioned, and I have cable.

Satellite - TranscendMT

I worked on satellite for Transcend for years before moving and getting cable again. It does have it's glitches but it does work. I do recommend Transcend too, have been there for 4 years this month. :)

I applied with them last night - blondie

I applied on their website last night. Maybe I will hear from them today with a testing opportunity. I saw on MTJobs that they were hiring and allow satellite internet. Wish me luck. :)

I used to try to work on satellite. It was very unreliable. If the weather was nasty/cloudy, the connection was very slow or none at all. When I couldnt have cable or DSL, I went to Verizon and got myself a broadband card and at one time had a Verizon 'hot spot.' Both of these work just like DSL and were very reliable. I actually sent a few customers their way as we are way in the country and the broadband card and hot spot was a great solution! You just dont want to use it to stream movies or do music downloads as that will eat up your allowed amount of monthly usage depending on the plan you pick. Hope this helps you, I been in your shoes a few years ago :)

Thanks so much - blondie

I had not heard of that option before. I will have to check into that. About how much a month does it cost you for the amount of data usage you would need to work?

I also use Verizon broadband - Anon

Ialso used to have satellite but very unreliable because of the weather, etc., always getting disconnected and losing reports.

I live in the country with no cable options either. I purchased a Verizon USB clip thing, which you insert into your USB port. Love it, love it! My satellite TV goes out all the time in goofy weather but my Verizon stays connected.

I purchased the plan for $60 a month which gives you 5 gigabytes or 5120 megabytes for the month.

I used the same plan as 'Anon.' I think they also offer an unlimited plan, but it is very expensive. I basically used the 5 gig plan at 59.99 a month. It is still cheaper than satellite. I could check emails, surf, do facebook, and the stuff I like to do and never went over my limit. There is a handy feature that pops up every time you log on and lets you know how much usage you are at. I even believe they send you a 'warning' email if you get close. I never got there, so I am not sure about that lol ;) I have used my broadband card on the road as well. I have been travelling at times with my hubby and will type as we ride, lol. I have been from the north to the south and through mountains, and it is pretty reliable. I really have no complaints with it and would have kept it except for we were offered DSL in our area finally and made the switch. However, if I ever have an issue with my DSL, I can call Verizon and do a 'pay-as-you-go' plan for a temporary basis. Lots of options here!! Good luck :)

Anyone Work On Editscript And Have Satellite Internet?
Feb 24, 2012

I previously worked at Nuance on Editscript platform.  I moved and had to get satelllite internet, and Nuance wasn't compatible anymore.  So I am working at Transcend, who said the BeyondTXT platform is satellite compatible.  I do not care much for BeyondTXT though.  My line counts are much lower than what they were with Editscript.  BeyondTXT said their accounts with Editscript aren't compatible with satellite.  Is there anyone who works on an Editscript ...

How Does A Company Know If You Use Satellite

Many companies specify no satellite. Is this uncompatible with their system or do they just prefer no satellite so say no satellite? I mean how do they really know or not if you have it? If they are using the same platform how can it work with one company and not the other? ...

Question About Platforms With Satellite
Nov 03, 2010

There seem to be a lot of companies that say no dial-up or satellite.  BUT I've heard from other MTs that use the same platform for another company on satellite and it's fine.  Escription is one example.  Can anyone tell me why that might be?  I have only satellite and am very limited on who I can work from. Response To Blondie Re Satellite

Blondie, Opti-Script does allow satellite.  They have a few openings on the Job Board right now and although it does not say that in their ads, when you go to their website it says satellite allowed but not preferred.  Also Precyse allows satellite but I do not recommend that company.  But maybe that's just me!  Good luck! ...

Laid Off By Nuance Due To Satellite Only.
