Anyone with broadband internet, do you go over 5 GB? - adkmt

Posted: Aug 21, 2010

I have had it with Hughesnet and am going to try Verizon broadband.  I was just wondering if others who use it have any trouble staying under the 5 GB monthly limit.  I really only use my computer for work, work email and a small amount of personal email, paying bills, and facebook.  Very occasionally a you tube video or something like that.  I'm not sure what that all would add up to.

I use the Verizon USB modem (broadband) and have for the past 2 years now. I live in a rural area and still to this day can't get cable for computer or for my TV.

Anyhoot, I have NEVER in the 2 years gone over the limit of 5 gigabytes (5120 megabytes). I was warned by Verizon that if I was going to be downloading MOVIES to keep an eye on the usage. Every time you log in you can see where you stand as far as your limit.

Like you, I only use my computer for my 2 jobs, paying bills, email, and an occasional you tube here and there. I believe the most I have used is around 2000 megabytes.

I absolutely love my Verizon USB modem. You plug it into a USB port. I never have any downtime with it. In fact, with the thunderstorms down here, my satelite TV is always going down but my Verizon stays connected.

Now, with having said that, the only problem I have had with it is that I am having problems with the voice files for the MedRite platform. No problems getting into or maneuvering through MedRite but like I said the voice file will play and then will stop for no reason. The company says my connection isn't good enough and then Verizon says there is nothing wrong with my connection. So who knows . . .

Hope this helps.

I just got the modem today.... - adkmt

So far it is working fine. The speed isn't fantastic, but definitely better than the satellite has been lately. I am just about out of work, so I'm going to play with the location of the modem to see if the signal improves. I'm also go to do the site survey on the 3G website to see if an antenna will help. Really glad to hear that you don't go anywhere near your limit.

I also have the USB modem and I hardly ever got over 2500 MB. It works really well, I get kicked off occasinally but can get right back on. Only time it was out for any length of time was when a tower was down, only once since February.

I love it, I have AT&T but I believe it is basically the same.
