wmx/Nuance insurance - anon

Posted: Aug 15, 2012

Okay we HAD to change our insurance when Nuance bought us out...and it was horribly expensive with a $2500 deductible.  They changed us in January, and I have just met that deductible. Well, guess what?  They "think" they informed us that the anniversary date would be  in August, and then the deductible starts OVER, and they are oh so sorry for this, but that is the way it is!!!  and "oh, we are all so sorry."

Well, I can't afford my medicine and can't afford to start over on a NEW $2500 deductible after having met the deductible. I am not making enough to cover this.  I am looking into the programs that help people afford medications but so far no luck.  What is wrong with these people??? Anyone else (Webmedx) facing this?

That is awful. Some ideas. sm - I Miss the Old Webmedx

I don't recall any mention of an August anniversary date. I'm from Webmedx, too, but on my husband's insurance fortunately. Have you tried contacting the manufacturers of your medications? If you are on a maintenance medication and can prove you cannot afford it, sometimes they will give you a discount or even free medications. I know because my brother has epilepsy and the manufacturers were of great help when he became disabled from work. Also, ask your doctor for help. He may have free samples or possibly refer you to a local program for help. Check with your hospital, as well, for help. Wishing you the best of luck.

When I lost my insurance - sm

(this was not at Nuance), I scoured every pharmacy for their lowest prices and actually ended up paying less for my Rx's than I had been through my insurance. Wal-Mart has the $4/month generic; Walgreens has a $20 card you pay for to get discount on Rx meds. I'm sorry this is happening to you and it is a pain in the rear, but hopefully, you will figure out a way to afford your meds.

Publix offers some medications free - Annie Oakley

Hard to believe, but they do. I think lisinopril, doxycycline, don't know what else.

medication help thanks! - anon

Thanks for the suggestions! I am trying the generics and the companies. It just seems so unfair that I will have $5000 deductible this year because of how they did this!! It seems illegal to me, but I guess it is not! I also have a friend who had surgery and had met her deductible but needs more surgery, so she needs to come up with another $2500 too, and on our reduced salaries thanks to Nuance! I am not impressed at all with their managers, I would like to see them have to meet 99% accuracy!!! enough said!!

It's a horrible situation - sm

No one understands until they are in the same boat. I lost my insurance and cried for 3 months, sat, afraid to move, that I would have a heart attack or something and not be able to afford to go to the hospital, lol.

New insurance - Old WMX MT

Is it because they are switching the insurance effective Sept 1? I don't get the insurance anymore because I can't afford it, so I don't know the details, but I thought I got an email that the insurance was switching on Sept. 1. I think we got the email a couple weeks ago, so they gave everyone a month's notice about this. It's horrible, but I have come to expect only the worse from them.

yes- it it the switch, but we have to start all over on our deductible! - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes that is the case, but none of us remember being told at the beginning of the year when we started paying that the deductible would not last for a full year! And it is a high deductible at that!! We have appealed (as I understand it, this only applies to Wmx people) and the final word was this is the way it is, so sorry! and BTW they said don't bother BC/BS because it is the plan that Nuance has, nothing the insurance people can do about it. Shame on you Nuance!! And to think they have millions to buy out companies, but give us $2500 deductible and then start it all over before the year is up! Oh...and let's not forget the reduction in pay and loss of bonuses for most of us!!

I get free medicines through the pharmaceutical - companies SM

Go to the websites of each of your medicines and many of them have a free plan for those who cannot afford them. One of mine is a well known antidepressant that is expensive and the other is expensive as well. They will send you a form (or sometimes you can download it)to fill out to see if you qualify. One of them, though, asked if you have insurance, then asked if you have drug coverage (I have insurance but no drug coverage)so this might trip you up. I would look into this in any case. Good luck. I have my own insurance through CareFirst, which was very affordable when I purchased it. However, with premiums increasing, I had to keep increasing my deductible, and now it basically is catastrophic insurance because the deductible is unreachable. My premium is at least affordable. I am still not quite sure how the ACA is going to help someone like me, but I am hoping it will help. I hope things work out for you.

Nuance Health Insurance
Nov 09, 2012

Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit??  I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit.  What about prescriptions, do we pay the full price for them now too, or is it still about a 15 dollar copay?  I am left wondering how they got this kind of insuranc ...
