Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit?? I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit. What about prescriptions, do we pay the full price for them now too, or is it still about a 15 dollar copay? I am left wondering how they got this kind of insurance if this is true. I thought the 2500 dollar deductible was for special tests and stuff, not primary care visits.

I nearly choked to death when I saw that the cost for family coverage was over 1,000 dollars a month. For that kind of money the doctor should make house calls and bring dinner with him. Very disappointed.

Since I am the only one being insured, what happens when I get so sick as to run up a huge bill, but can no longer pay the premium? Then, my insurance is canceled, right? So, what's the sense in having insurance that won't cover minor illnesses until they reach an extremely high deductible? A doctor visit might be $300, and I might go once or twice a year. Funny thing, it's rare to find a doctor who will see an uninsured person, so many people resort to ERs and Minute Clinics if they are available. Before the insurance would pay, I'd have to be very sick, and too sick to work. Would I be eligible for Medicaid if I cannot work and am the only one in my household? What's the sense in having insurance when I'm single?

Of course, if you have a family, it's a totally different situation.

Fall and break your leg and need ORIF, need an appendectomy or other surgery, develop cancer and need chemo and you will find out quickly why you need insurance. An overnight hospital stay can cost at least 20K. As a single person, if you don't have the cash set aside for medical expenses, at the very least you need catastrophic coverage. Most high deductible plans still cover preventive care. You'd be surprised how quickly a couple of office visits, lab work and x-rays will help a person reach their deductible. Your insurance does not get canceled if you get sick, I don't know who told you that. The other thing to think about is that once you go without medical insurance, it's difficult to get it again without a long waiting period and paying even more than you do now.

the monthly premium, I basically have catastrophic insurance as my deductible is so high. My premium is reasonable though, $121 a month. I also have a discount medication card that practically cuts in half the amount my prescriptions cost. I think I pay about $15 a month for that but it pays for itself as I am on meds chronically. This is CareFirst insurance.

What you're saying makes sense to me. Also if I got really sick and met my deductible, I wouldn't be able to afford the 25% co-pay, either. So what's the point? If you're really too sick to work there's Soc. Sec. disability and Medicaid. It probably pays as well as MT!

What is happening now is the insurance companies eking out the last little bit of blood before they are banned from making too much profit anymore and their investors find some other parasitical way to make money off the backs of the poor and suffering. Had Mr. Romney won, it would no doubt be weather disasters! No, I advise you and everyone else to look at your state PCIP program which is in effect RIGHT NOW. It is a million times better than any insurance plan I have ever seen but you need to be uninsured for 6 months and have a preexisting condition to be eligible.

This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem.
