Thanks Jayz!

....all kinds of threads about Nuance on this board. Look to your left under the column "Navigation." There's a whole category for "Nuance." Hopefully you can find what you want to know there. Good luck!

I worked for Medquist (MMOdal) for well over 10 years and was so tired of having 20 plus accounts and constantly having to look up demographics etc that i quit. Didn't work for over 6 months and then decided to apply somewhere and got picked up very quickly by Nuance - you will see a lot of negatives and some positives. So far I enjoy it. I have a great supervisor (team leader) I have yet to run out of work for more than maybe 15 minutes or so - Did start at a lower pay scale than I had in the past but I expected that. I can only say good things about them. They are definitely way more advanced on the voice recognition than Medquist was when I left and the escription platform is very easy to pick up on and they give you a lot of training. Hope this helps
How many accts now with Nuance compared to MModal? - NoMsg

I have a primary and a secondary and then I also on another one for just a few months while we help them with a backlog. I have had OT offered the last 2 weeks almost every day to work
PROS:
Steady work for SOME (I know this is not the case for some, but I don't run out of work and am often asked to work overtime).
CONS:
Low pay (4 cents editing, 8 cents transcribing)
Training for me was not good. I still don't have a clue how they calculate our hourly wages for paid time off.
Poor communication. Emails don't get answered, or they will say they will look into it and never get back to you.
QA is fickle and will mark you down for things that are subjective and don't matter.

I really have no communication problem. All my emails and IM's are answered very quickly. I guess it just depends on what kind of tl you get. I get paid at almost 5 and almost 9 so it is a little more. QA part is right - you really have to keep track of what they correct because they will make errors

What does training have to do with how they calculate your hourly wages for paid time off? My training was great - but it was platform training etc. The trainers didn't have anything to do with payroll questions.
Have you asked your team supervisor for clarification on your PTO rate?

I included that in training because that is when you're supposed to get all of that information. I emailed my TL, who is new to Nuance and didn't know, so then it went to someone else, who partially answered my question. I let it drop because I will never have enough PTO for it to matter anyway. But it's the lack of information that annoys me.

PTO is calculated using your current hourly rate.
Your current hourly rate is calculated by taking the number of lines you produced and dividing by the number of hours.
As a simplified example: If you produced 1000 lines in 10 hours, that would be 100 lines per hour. Let's pretend those were all straight typing (no VR) at 8 cpl, then your hourly rate would equal $8/hour. So your PTO would be $8/hour.
I *believe*, although I'm not sure, that they use your hourly rate from your current pay period. (When I started with Webmedx many years ago, I think they used the previous pay period, but I don't think that's the case anymore.)
very poor - communication

I asked for a few days off over a month ago and they were never answered. They are still on Webclock as "open." Well the time is here and still unanswered. So, I certainly will be taking these days off and don't care anymore.

I requested 2 days off and they are still open - well, come another 2 weeks, I am not working so hello - fire me - could care less.
PTO requests - anon

My request was "open" on Webclock until the day before the day I requested. Each time it has been approved within a day or so of the date requested.
Communication is HORRIBLE. Maybe 1 in 10 e-mails get answered and then they usually do not even address the question asked.

I have had an open request for about a month now. I'm going, whether or not it's approved. I kind of hope it isn't. :/
Speaking of PTO, the way they set up the request system is painful.
very poor communication - mt20years

It took my supervisor 3 weeks to answer a request for 1 day off. I was going to take it regardless. Yet she took 10 days off not too long ago and is always "busy" or on a conference call. I never communicate with her unless absolutely necessary.

Sorry, but I have most cons. I have been with Nuance 6+ months. They are indeed the Walmart of transcription. Low pay, dont care about the employee as long as the work gets done. I have always worked a notice for any company I've work for in the past, but as soon as I find another job (not MT job) I am gone without somuch as a kiss my ass. That is how they treat me. If it were not for my husband paying all the bills, we would be homeless.
The pros, hmmm.... hard to come up with many. I cannot stand my supervisor. She is always "busy." yeah right. And the QCs are never on the same page,, mostly subjective things like "a, an, of" that have nothing to do with patient care. It does not matter if you have 99% accuracy or not, it's almost like they DONT want you to make money. I just dont get it.
Yes mam - With you there

I'm with you there. Will do the same thing! I hate it when my post audits get marked off with an "and" or even a dash forgotten. Irritates the hell out of me.

I hate this place, cannot wait to get out. I have a 4-day weekend coming up but right before that, I'm applying at a few places - not MT jobs either - and quitting w/out notice.
I totally agree with you. TL always busy. Other TLs or SQs or whatever the hell they are send emails. I also agree about the QAs. One does it 1 way, the next does it another way - all just so you don't make bonus. Or throw a small bonus once in awhile at you so you'll believe there is more to come.
I read some minor cons, some minor pros. I'm getting the feeling since the company is not being bashed heavily, that there are MTs who are surviving working for them.

being a prn employee? I have an upcoming interview at a hospital for an MT job. The job is not through a staffing/employment agency. Who ever gets the job will be an actual hospital employee but will not get any benefits (one disadvantage). I wonder how it works when you want to take vacation (how much notice needs to be given) or if you have to give a two-week notice when you quit. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! ...
Or hypothetically speaking if you are a QA who works on Dictaphone EXEditor, paid $16 per hour, full-time with potential for overtime most weeks. I have been with this company for 6 years. Love it. Great management/office staff. I have been offered a QA position, but want to know opinions from fellow QAers before accepting what you like or dislike about QAing, the work itself.

Hey does anyone know of any pros/cons to DIT transcription? Got an e-mail that they want to take their test but not sure about it. I have been burned a few times from other places and don't want to fall into another trap....and not get my money.

I have read so many pros and cons. Running out of work (that's a problem I have right now). I would love to hear from those who have been at SoftScript for longer than just a few months-maybe a year or more. Are you still happy? Do you still have work everyday? I can't take much more working till midnight just to get enough lines in and time in to pay my bills. I just want to do my job in a decent time frame and get some sleep. There's no such thing as a perfect company-they all h ...
I was wondering if I could get some input on working for Nuance. Are they trustworthy? Do you run out of work? How is the platform Dicatphone Extext? Currently work for MModal and trying to decide if this would be a good change or bad.
Thanks for your help!

Do you think, with the current state of affairs with the MT industry, that it would be worth trying to start a transcription company? I'm torn. The only reason I would want to start a transcription company is to try to make what I use to make. I don't love being an MT, at least not anymore. In fact, I am growing to despise it. The thing is, I am a damn good MT, not that you would know it from looking at my paychecks since the big switch to VR and downgrade ...
I am getting a new computer with Windows 7 and would like to know what word expander programs a person would find simple, minimal learning curve, pros and cons and what is out there. I'm planning on getting out of the at-home MT industry and will be seeking employment doing other jobs but in an office. The problem I'm facing is switching back to the original rectangular keyboard (carpal tunnel, here I come) once again.
I've been using the Microsoft Natural Multimedia split keyboard since November 2004, and despite several attempts to revert back to the original style, I quit in frustration within 10 minutes. My fingers cannot find the keys. I cannot even u ...
