SoftScript-pros, cons? - gottagetouttahere

Posted: Nov 09, 2012

I have read so many pros and cons. Running out of work (that's a problem I have right now). I would love to hear from those who have been at SoftScript for longer than just a few months-maybe a year or more. Are you still happy? Do you still have work everyday? I can't take much more working till midnight just to get enough lines in and time in to pay my bills. I just want to do my job in a decent time frame and get some sleep. There's no such thing as a perfect company-they all have problems-but the big MTSOs (and I work for one now) are so bad that I have got to do something to survive. Let me know opinions.

same as the OP. I would really appreciate hearing also. I have an interview coming up with them. And, like the original OP it would be nice to hear from those, who have stayed with them through the rough times and the better times. TIA.

I would also like to know. I tested with them this morning.

I have tested, interviewed, got everything set up. I have been very impressed with their efficiency so far. The recruiter was very pleasant (DN). They have pushed my training date a week, so that has me a bit concerned.

My question and biggest concern: What are the dictators like at SoftScript?

Crossroads. Big Decisions. Help!!!

I have applied and tested, have interview coming up. Would be interested in how the interview process was/how long it lasted.

I just interviewed with them. The process went "smooth as butter." The interview was scheduled by DN and she called me exactly at the time of the appointment. She was very pleasant, just a quick list of standard questions. None of those profound interview questions about our strengths and weaknesses, how we would react in a crisis situation, etc. LOL! (The ones I dread and always end up rambling!)

The entire process lasted about 10-15 minutes, very quick and efficient.

Like I said, so far I am very impressed with their efficiency.

There was one orthopedic acct I had that was crap. Problem is you are supposed to meet a certain percentage of work sent to QA so if you get a crappy sounding acct that works against you right from the start.

Thanks for the input. sm - Kindred

Ouch! That is not good. It all boils down to the account you are put on, and we just never know. I guess at this point i am just going to have to wait and see how this pans out.

Work load is spotty - SSer

I have worked for SS for nearly 3 years. Work levels are inconsistent. Some days there is plenty, then the next day it will be NJA. SS primarily does overflow work and that's the nature of that setup--feast or famine. If you are saving up for a cruise or something special then I would give it a try. If you are counting on this job for any kind of regular money to pay regular bills, look elsewhere.

Been there a year in 2 weeks. Like anywhere, it depends on your manager and the account you get, but all the work is upwards of 85% ESL and I did not expect that. What I did when I got my account assigned is research that hospital. I do better on community hospitals so was able to avoid a metro hospital that sounded like a 3rd World country (do them as a last tertiary). One caveat: SS is looking for a VR software engineer, so they will be the last to be on straight transcription. Overall, they have turned out the best employer for me.

Your input helped a lot. I took you advice and took a peak. It looks like I have "community," so now I feel a little less nervous! :)

My experience - NotLovingSS

I worked for SS three months ago and this was MY experience. I was hired and first night of working, I ran out of work. I advised my supervisor and she gave me another account. This kept happening until I had FIVE different accounts. The problem was, the way work comes up, it was never in a way to finish work on one account, then move to the next, it was random, one job from one account, one job from another and so forth. This is VERY hard because The account specifics are different for all five accounts! I don't mean a slight difference, but completely opposite at times. For me, when typing, my brain will sometimes go into autopilot mode and this does not work at all for five different accounts with random work coming up at random times from all five.

One day when it was the VERY FIRST day of me working on a new account she gave me I made a mistake on that account with the account specifics. This wasn't a critical mistake to compromise the patient chart, but a mistake for how they wanted it done. Again, it was my VERY FIRST day on the account and I received an email from my supervisor pointing out the mistake and she said, "If this happens again you will be pulled from the account, we will not put up with this." I was a little in shock with the response. I UNDERSTAND fully that you must follow account specifics, but it was my first day on the account, I have FIVE accounts to juggle between and I thought that response was not really justified. I'm quite aware that I can't continue to make the same mistakes, but there was no reason to be so rude about it.

I really didn't have any other problems and then all of a sudden I got a random QA audit in which I made four mistakes that were again, account specifics mistakes, not mistakes in transcription. With the four mistakes it caused my QA score to be 97.5% according to them and you have to have 98% to work there. I received a phone call from someone that I had never spoken with before and he said that due to my low QA score my employment was terminated.

My opinion...sm - Old Woman

I have worked for SoftScript now for about 6 months, and I also worked for them about a year several years ago. What I have to say about the company is far from the popular consensus on this board and I will probably draw fire for what I have to say, but this is my experience and my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I like working for SoftScript. I have worked for many, many MTSOs, large and small, in this industry, and this company ranks in the top 3 for me. Their pay scale is pretty much in line with the industry standard, and there are production incentives for those who can produce the lines. Pay is on time, every time. Sometimes work volumes are an issue, but I have not run out of work for a very, very long time. I currently work 6 accounts. My supervisor is great and leaves me to do my job without the constant, berating emails that others have spoken of on this forum. Their platform is not the smoothest that I have ever worked on, but it is by far not the worst either. I have not had the occasion to contact the IT department, but from what I understand, they are very responsive and helpful in resolving issues related to the system. They offer benefits for full-time employees, including medical, dental, and vision as well as AD&D and optional life insurance. PTO is earned in increments per pay period and is used for all time off, including holidays and sickness, which I wish they would offer a few days of sick pay a year so that PTO could go for vacation days. They offer discounts on Dell computers and other discounts to things like Disney, etc.

Hope this helps.

Got a job but still plan to interview with SS - anon

I am due to have an interview with a recruiter from SS the end of this month. This week, I was offered another job with a very small company. I tested for this job over a month ago and tried to keep in touch with the owner and finally last weekend she was able to go over my test and hired me. She is very fair and starting me out on one provider so I can catch on easier than having a bunch of them. The pay is very decent for a company. I believe I could be happy working with her. She says they are like family and communicate directly with each other, that is, all her other MTs so I believe I could have fallen into a good situation. I decided to go ahead with the SS interview anyway just to find out more about the company after reading so many posts here.

Do you think, with the current state of affairs with the MT industry, that it would be worth trying to start a transcription company?  I'm torn.  The only reason I would want to start a transcription company is to try to make what I use to make.  I don't love being an MT, at least not anymore.  In fact, I am growing to despise it.  The thing is, I am a damn good MT, not that you would know it from looking at my paychecks since the big switch to VR and downgrade ...
